gets dizzy when their character moves faster than walking speed

kitsuragi-drip

Not all of us are on a cocktail of speed, Pyrholidon, and Pale-aged vodka, Lieutenant.

I listed some of my favorite games and tbh, playing them on a combo of uppers and hard liquor is some of the most fun I've had. Doing mgs2 vr missions with a roommate where we took turns and whoever wasnt holding the controller was holding the bottle of whiskey or doing a dhitload of coke and crushing it at FTL. Tooth grind drugs go super well.witj a lot of my faves

[–] 9to5@hexbear.net 49 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

If your game doesnt look like this in the year of our lord 2025. What are you even doing ?

[–] GamersOfTheWorld@hexbear.net 28 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Not going to lie, this legitimately looks like my type of game. What is it called?

[–] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 30 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] GamersOfTheWorld@hexbear.net 25 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Looks extremely fucking complicated, but I'm a sicko who forsakes sanity for player choice. sicko-yes

It's probably going to be a living nightmare trying to even get this game to run in the first place (looks kinda old, plus I'm using Linux) but I'm sure I'll learn something and jank it in some way or another.

[–] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 19 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

i love it so much lol

i got it working through wine, it's a little temperamental but it works

[–] GamersOfTheWorld@hexbear.net 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Could you tell me how you got it working?

[–] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 11 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

it's been a couple years since i did the install, but iirc i ran the normal install within a wine prefix, then installed AuroraPatch and run it through that

edit: lutris has a script for it here

That's the game where you have to design not just every ship but every component for them and fund research and development programs to actually turn those specs into usable parts that can be manufactured, right? I think I remember playing that like 15 years ago. IIRC it had an issue where the installer could brick one's OS because it would try to overwrite some library with a much older version if one didn't carefully read what it was saying it was going to do and tell it to not do that?

[–] TrustedFeline@hexbear.net 46 points 2 weeks ago

Millions must play soviet text-based RPGs from 1989

LMAO. So pretentious. And where are these games found, so I can avoid them?

[–] robotElder2@hexbear.net 46 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

What the hell is friendslop? We're pathologizing playing games with friends now?

[–] Robert_Kennedy_Jr@hexbear.net 47 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Friendslop generally refers to the $10-$20 flavor of the month stuff that gets a lot of hype by streamers and then everyone forgets it existed after a few weeks.

[–] sleeplessone@lemmy.ml 20 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I can't speak to the streamer bit since I don't concern myself with streamers, but this is close to how I see friendslop. It's a flavor of the month game that's made harder to ignore because IRL friends keep bugging me to play it with them because "it's only like $10 broooooo", even though I've seen them regularly play games like that for a month or two only to ditch them, not talk about them again, and move onto the next friendslop. Often, they even look like really good games, but all the badgering from people I know wanting to play makes me view the game with contempt for reasons that don't have much to do with the games themselves or the people who made them.

I'm unsure how much of this is just me being an antisocial curmudgeon, but it's a lot easier to ignore things I don't care for -- even if other people are talking about how much they like them a lot -- when I'm not being pestered to participate.

[–] reddit@hexbear.net 16 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I see it like buying a movie ticket. For $10 I get a few hours, maybe a dozen, of fun with my friends for the next month or so. Not every game lasts forever or has to

It's referring to the sudden deluge of multiplayer games, especially horror/survival games, that have come out in the past few years. The term come from this meme:

[–] miz@hexbear.net 30 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)
[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 29 points 2 weeks ago

its like chattel slavery but nicer

[–] fox@hexbear.net 14 points 2 weeks ago

Streamers using each other for content by playing a game together and getting exposed to each other's audiences.

They are little fun flavor of the month games that you play with your discord friends until the game you actually want to play either gets a mod that supports more than 4 people (which is an arbitrary limit from ye olde days of split screen) or gets an overhaul that justifies the group putting another 100 hours into it.

[–] WellTheresYourCobbler@hexbear.net 12 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I like lethal company I-was-saying

Edit: with mods mostly

The flavor of the week games that seem to pop out exclusively for streamers to play together.

Peak is the most recent one. Lethal Company and Chained Together are other examples.

[–] TreadOnMe@hexbear.net 27 points 2 weeks ago (6 children)

Hey, some of us have friends and these games are great for us.

Are there actually Soviet text adventures? tbh I dont know much about soviet computing outside of the C clone they made, and Tetris

[–] laziestflagellant@hexbear.net 32 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

The friendslop jab seems to directly contradict the rest of the meme imo

If you like reading, just wait until you hear about books!

If it has to be a video game with lots of words, then let me tell you about Umineko ahaha

[–] Tomorrow_Farewell@hexbear.net 29 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Dialogue boxes > repetitive combat mechanics where you just solve the same simple problem many times.

[–] Des@hexbear.net 27 points 2 weeks ago

the older i get the more esoteric i like my games

an example: i consider most paradox map games to be casual games for near bedtime

[–] SootySootySoot@hexbear.net 27 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I'm genuinely not sure if this is supposed to be a negative depiction. Likes stories, likes playing games with friends, not fussed with graphics, enjoys Disco Elysium, reports toxic drama fucks and isn't interested in engaging them.

I love this person, who are they? Can they be my friend? If this is you then tell me, lets play games.

Nah nah the best gaming is load into company of heroes, fortifying a line across the middle of the map, sit and watch. Or supreme commander build loads of artillery and just watch. This is peak gaming. I will make a frontline and I will watch it for an hour

I've done friendslop games before with friends, though once again all my friends have moved away, and I've been really busy and haven't been able contact them or receive a response back. I miss the feeling of camaraderie from those times. Sometimes I watch streamers play friendslop, and I experience a parasocial relationship where it's that familiar feeling but it isn't real.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 15 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (3 children)

Used to be me, now I am the total opposite. I have become the if I wanted to read id pick up a book guy but its cause as i started picking up books again I did want my games more and more to just be games. Now I just try to get weirdly good at a smaller number of games. Those being: F-Zero X, Wild Guns, Castlevania 1, Contra 3, Papers Please and FTL and the VR Missions in mgs2

Look, waiting simulator the game is actually quite good.

[–] GamersOfTheWorld@hexbear.net 9 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I played this game, and while it's kinda cool, it requires a lot of grind and extremely good strategy. On top of that, you don't even

spoilerunlock the revive / "incremental" aspect of it until you reach a certain point, meaning that if you fail in the early stages, you have to restart. It didn't help that one one run, I was literally so close to getting towards the abandoned ship with the artifact, but I died due to a lack of oxygen.

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 11 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

What are "friendslop games"?

Edit: I remembered search exists and looked it up https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/friendslop
