Please don't call me that.

[–] goldteeth@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 2 months ago (1 children)

And please don't invite people to meet me, either.

[–] CrazyHorse@lemmy.cafe 9 points 2 months ago

And don't meat me, either.

[–] SassyRamen@lemmy.world 58 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This is such a dumb headline

[–] EvilFonzy@lemmy.world 21 points 2 months ago

Given how the media and tech bros talk/think about vegans, it's insulting propaganda.

AI is also just... Trash.

It can't do my dishes. It can't vacuum the apartment. It can't do my laundry. You can't ask it information because it'll just be wrong 20% of the time. It can't automate all the annoying things in my life that get in the way of what I love doing:

Art.

But that's the one thing that it's designed to do.

But that’s the one thing that it’s designed to do.

And poorly, and unethically, at that.

Can't make anything new either, just iterations of what humans came up with.

AI vegans? I'm very much against AI but I'm not a vegan. I wonder if vegans like the term vegan used for this. I think I would be annoyed if I was one too

[–] v4ld1z@lemmy.zip 25 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Vegan here. This is stupid

[–] unmagical@lemmy.ml 13 points 2 months ago (2 children)

This sounds like a marketing attempt to align us modern Luddites with an already established "out group" to build a public perception against abstaining from planet killing slop generators.

[–] EvilFonzy@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

Corporate news and media, especially in cases like this, has always been a tool to turn the uninformed public against educated dissenters. They targeted hippies in the 70s for speaking out about the military and prison industrial complexes and this is more of the same. It's a cheap attack that always works.

I think there are multiple levels on which to be annoyed by this article. 😬

[–] naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 months ago

Veganism is a philosophy of minimising harm to animals as much as is practicable. There are no health reasons for being vegan, there are health reasons for following a plant based diet which vegans do instrumentally. A "vegan for health" would e.g. wear skins and fur.

So this article fundamentally misunderstands veganism. Then applies it inappropriately.

[–] BurgerBaron@piefed.social 19 points 2 months ago

I like AI Luddite better.

[–] amzd@lemmy.world 16 points 2 months ago

Comparing not using a computer program to abstaining from killing lmao

[–] fckreddit@lemmy.ml 13 points 2 months ago

This opinion piece is shit and it is pathetically trying to bring the term "AI Vegan" in vogue. This article adds nothing else to the conversation except regurgitating old shit.

[–] cecilkorik@lemmy.ca 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Vegan? Gross. I prefer to be called an AI Luddite, thankyouverymuch.

[–] fckreddit@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 months ago

I prefer to call "AI", "trash".

[–] ZDL@lazysoci.al 8 points 2 months ago

The Guardian is supposedly "left" and yet they're following the scripts handed down by right wing extremist techbrodudes.

It's almost as if its "leftism" is like most "leftism" in the anglosphere: complete and utter performative bullshit.

Not all instances of refusing something bad are of the same class.

AI and the News Industry: How The Guardian’s OpenAI Deal Signals a New Era.

The Guardian Media Group has entered into a strategic partnership with OpenAI, integrating its journalism into ChatGPT and rolling out AI-powered tools across its operations.

Completely non-biased on this subject I am sure.

I'm vegan btw.

(fuck AI too)

[–] gointhefridge@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 months ago

I don’t use “AI” cause chat bots are stupid. AI has been fine for decades, the cars in Gran Turismo had sufficient AI to drive around the track. This modern definition is just horse shit for another attempt at Silicon Valley to claim they are superior than every other industry. Sam Altman is a fraud and modern “AI” gobeldyguk.

[–] Denjin@feddit.uk 2 points 2 months ago

The ethical and environmental reasons are secondary to the fact that LLMs are figurative shit and the bubble will burst in a year or so and anyone who comes to rely on ChatGPT to do their thinking for them is going to be shit out of luck.

[–] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 1 points 2 months ago

Look at those weird hairshirters abstaining from the basics of modern life like vibe coding, bot art and the smooth sounds of The Velvet Sundown. I mean, what a bunch of freaky cultists, right?
