Now they just wait a couple years, then hit em with the OLED version while pretending that it's some new space age technology Richard-D-Wolff

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 32 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Wait they made this thing HOW MUCH and didn't even make it OLED? My sides

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 month ago

Not a good LED screen either, no local dimming, bad peak brightness and smudgy motion. It "supports" HDR, but you might as well leave it off.

for every informed gamer that would have feelings about $80 games there are thousands of paypigs who are disney adults for nintendo, millions of casuals who don't give a shit about "the industry", and millions of parents who are buying a toy for the kids and don't buy games often enough to be very price conscious.

we all already know "vote with your wallet" and unorganized boycotts are worthless.

[–] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 17 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Honestly I never thought $80 games would ever be a big issue in Europe/USA. Games have been at $60 for such a long time, and have become so much more complex that your average consumer can justify the price increase to themselves.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago

i think part of it is how fast they went from 70 to 80

[–] Spike@hexbear.net 26 points 1 month ago (1 children)

How does everyone have money for this?

[–] MizuTama@hexbear.net 23 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Affirm! Lmao, I think you’re right

[–] Outdoor_Catgirl@hexbear.net 25 points 1 month ago (7 children)

What does this actually do that's new? Only game I know for it is mario kart

[–] lurker_supreme@hexbear.net 39 points 1 month ago

It runs original switch games at appropriate frameratess

[–] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 27 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

according to a guy i watch for background noise, it makes pokemon scarlet/violet run almost acceptably

though not as well as just emulating it on pc with halfway decent hardware

[–] graymess@hexbear.net 15 points 1 month ago

Incredible lmao

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 20 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It’s the Switch but more powerful, bigger handheld screen, a bit bigger joy-cons, integrated chat functions. Definitely an incremental improvement rather than a drastic evolution. The line-up is a bit thin right now but that’s typical for the launch period.

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The mouse-style control options seem neat, but yep.

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 27 points 1 month ago (4 children)

It'll get used effectively in like 2-3 first party games and be forgotten yea

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 17 points 1 month ago

Sad but true. I just want gyro aiming to take off more, it's legitimately competitive with mouse and keyboard once you get used to it.

[–] CthulhusIntern@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

If Metroid Prime 4 uses it, I'll be happy.

The new Donkey Kong game looks pretty cool. I'm too broke to afford it, but I'll probably enjoy playing it in a few years lol.

Not the least but surprised. gamers are the Uber bootlickers of our world

[–] vegeta1@hexbear.net 13 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Gamers see a black samurai they try and get fucking Japanese congress involved. Gamers see industry abuse and unethical gambling shit that kids are vulnerable to?

Oh look? The usual meal came with flavoring

[–] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 21 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Gamers see a black samurai they try and get fucking Japanese congress involved

which is really funny considering every Japanese person i've seen talk about assassin's creed has been like "oh cool, it's Yasuke"

[–] Frivolous_Beatnik@hexbear.net 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He's been a figure in Japanese media forever! I can't wait until the games industry collapses so I never have to hear another white dipshit complain about Yasuke erasing Japanese culture or some shit

[–] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

wojak-nooo NOOO UBISOFT IS DISRESPECTING JAPANESE HISTORY

This shit was so fucking disingenous. There is an untold amount of Japanese games and media that takes extreme creative liberties with historical events and figures

The above screenshot shows the extremely historically accurate battle between Jubei Yagyu and Nobunaga Oda in the historical epic, Onimusha 2.

[–] CommunistCuddlefish@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Gamers when Nioh presents an orientalist bastardization of Japanese myths and shoehorns in a white guy protagonist for no reason: Game of the Year! No complaints!

Gamers when Assassin's Creed presents a more historically loving fictionalized story about a national icon: Nooooooooo, this is so disrespectful!

That crowd just hates black people There's a reason thst one streamer with the stupid name called it a "heated gamer moment" when he dropped the N bomb

I literally stopped buying new consoles or games because I gave up on gamers being able to wait 24 hours after a game releases to see if it's actually a completed game.

[–] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago

[–] hello_hello@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I normally buy the console day-one so that I have a version that supports the inevitable hardware security weaknesses... but the price makes me knees weak instead.

[–] 7bicycles@hexbear.net 17 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'm a RETVRN guy for attack vectors on consoles being hardware based like for the PS1 era. Like I'm sure it is insanely harder than finding some sort of software bug in the bloat but also you can't security patch "guy with a soldering iron"

[–] MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net 12 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

PS2 slim straw and piece of tissue paper in the disc drive to swap out DVDs for burned discs was my first hardware hack lol.

it isn't just a western thing, it's selling a lot of pre-orders in the PRC too
400,000 from just a single retailer and that's with having no official launch

I havent played on consoles since the PS3 era. I dont think this is gonna change anytime soon. I have everything I need and want on PC these days

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 month ago (6 children)

It's kinda nuts to think that when the 360 came out, it was more powerful than the best consumer PC you could build (and arguably the PS3 also did, or would have done had it released in 2005 as planned), for $299 (less than 500 adjusted for inflation).

RETVRN

I’m obviously just virtue signaling to the congregation here, but after how obsolete the switch became immediately (mostly that the controllers stop working) and nintendo never really fixed it - there’s no way I’d buy a console from them again lol. It’s literally put me off from gaming (to my betterment) with how frustrating it is to use.

Fool me once, won’t get fooled again
