Honestly eh. So incest isn't big in Japan. Which just leads me to think that this falls under the general misogyny of that society. And boy oh boy is a freak show. I mean considering whose been running that country and at whose behest. It probably fits. Plus it's like at the end stage of capitalism (as in a society that has successfully implemented capitalism as well as possible) and what you find there is a soulless abyss. Japan more than the rest of the world (although under capitalism we're all there to some degree) is a direction less society and profit just doesn't cut it. On the flip side they produce some seriously good but seriously depressing media. Stuff like land of the lustrous or technolyze.

Also the way your wrote this post up was really funny. Like it really captures the feeling of watching a piece of media fall apart. This was me when I read this manga called usagi drop. I literally couldn't believe it. I was genuinely shocked. This was well before I realized how ridiculous Japanese media can get.

Honestly these ridiculous storylines in Japanese media just leave me laughing my ass off (and not just Japanese media tbf. I couldn't stop smiling during the game of thrones finale). But the worst example of this is an anime called the irregular at magic school. It's so atrociously bad. I dont recommend you look into it unless you find humor in the absurdity of these types of media. But the comically bad part of the plot is so similar to what you wrote up

I played star ocean 2 the second story R in the last two weeks. It's a remake of a ps2 game. Strong points were the gameplay and various systems (gear crafting, customization etc). Weaker points were the voice acting, narrative (decent but could have been tighter) and what I felt was a lack of dungeons and story (game is quite short).

Next is octopath traveler 0. Which should carry me until the next path of exile 2 expansion.
