You wouldn't have heard of this forest; it's pretty underground

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 33 points 2 days ago

If you're such a fan, name fifteen species of plants living there

[–] underisk@hexbear.net 31 points 2 days ago (1 children)

if I only play the girls sometimes, think women's clothing looks uncomfortable, and don't have strong opinions about my gender can I still visit the sinkhole

[–] Facky@hexbear.net 18 points 2 days ago (2 children)

If you pay a tithe to trans people, yes.

I can't go because I can't pay the tithe.

[–] outhouseperilous@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

You don't have to pay with money.

Wait, shit, that sounded like a creepy sex thing. I meant you don't need both your kidneys.

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

How much is the tithe. My friends are ace so I only have garlic bread unfortunately

I would have to check but that might be better than money.

Wait how did someone discover a hole with a fence built inside of it???

Did someone have the coolest secret base in the world or something?

[–] Dessa@hexbear.net 31 points 2 days ago

It's a natural fence. I won't take further questions

[–] SamotsvetyVIA@hexbear.net 21 points 2 days ago
[–] jack@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago

It's odd cause I remember this but thought it was in Vietnam.

[–] AstroStelar@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago

Well, it's in Guangxi, which borders Vietnam, so you're not that far off. Guangxi's karst landscapes are wild.

[–] HamManBad@hexbear.net 6 points 2 days ago

The one in Vietnam is called Son Doong

Hey to be fair I'm a hexbearian and I don't get the joke either monke-beepboop

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago

spoiler

The joke is that the first part of the post suggests that the news would be that the reader is trans. The expectation is subverted with another piece of news that is really cool. There might be a deeper layer about how trans people might suppress the realization that they're trans by distracting themselves, but I don't really know.

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 16 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I'm autistic and I grant a license to dunk to this post because it is very funny

[–] RedWizard@hexbear.net 9 points 2 days ago

Our Parliament grows ever bigger.

It's a bait and switch joke.

[–] VibeCoder@hexbear.net 22 points 2 days ago (1 children)

β€œI have some news for you” is a facetious way that people sometimes imply someone might be trans. But the joke is that the β€œnews” is a literal news story. Maybe with the added twist that it’s a subject that’s nerdy in a way that fits with stereotypes of trans people. Not sure about the last part though.

[–] Owlboi@lemm.ee 11 points 2 days ago

ohhhhh now i get it. finally someone actually explaining it πŸ˜πŸ™πŸ»

thank you friend

[–] SamotsvetyVIA@hexbear.net 27 points 2 days ago (1 children)

before i can answer i must know do you play as a girl in video games, have a fascination with feminine clothing, and "wish you were a girl"?

[–] Owlboi@lemm.ee 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] SamotsvetyVIA@hexbear.net 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

have i got some GOOD news for you

[–] Owlboi@lemm.ee 15 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

i still dont get it πŸ’€

PLEASE normalize explaining things. we cant all be on the internet 24/7 πŸ™πŸ»

[–] Robert_Kennedy_Jr@hexbear.net 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The first part is a common implication that the person might be trans, but then switches it up to talking about something completely different.

[–] Owlboi@lemm.ee 8 points 2 days ago (3 children)

so youre saying theres no joke here. its just... switching the topic randomly... alright

[–] Are_Euclidding_Me@hexbear.net 21 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It's a classic anti-joke. You set up for a joke punchline, then you say something that isn't the expected joke, and usually isn't even funny. The thing that makes people laugh is that they were expecting a joke and then it isn't one.

This particular one really probably only works if you hang out in certain types of online trans spaces, because otherwise you won't recognize the setup.

Even more explanation, spoilered for easier scrolling:The joke this anti-joke is riffing on is actually also kind of meta, now that I think about it.

Ok, so, if you think you're a boy, but you play as a girl in video games, have a fascination with feminine clothing, and "wish you were a girl", then you might be, in fact, not a boy, you might be trans.

The joke then, is how often the above statement gets bandied about in trans spaces. It's a true statement, almost self-evidently so, and yet, if you're an egg (which in this context means a person who is trans but doesn't know it yet), you sometimes don't realize you're trans until/unless you see this statement somewhere and then start thinking about it. So people in trans spaces, especially spaces where there are a lot of eggs for whatever reason, will post this kind of sentiment constantly. It's kind of funny how often.

So here we are with the original anti-joke this whole thread has been about: the person on twitter starts the sentence that always ends with "you might be trans", but then actually posts a pretty neat news article, and since you're expecting "you might be trans" and get instead "neat underground forest found in China", then if you're me, you chuckle a little, because it's pretty funny.

[–] hotcouchguy@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago

It's inverting the reader's expectations in an amusing manner

[–] mendiCAN@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

[–] Owlboi@lemm.ee 12 points 2 days ago (2 children)

user who is chronically offline and keeps causing stirrups because they're being genuine while everyone they interact with is hiding behind 3 layers of irony and meta-irony
