The US, grappling with an egg shortage, is reaching out to Lithuania for egg exports after Finland declined. The situation has prompted ridicule online.

I personally find it hilarious that they would rather beg than enact the regulations necessary to prevent the problem from happening in the first place

[–] reddig33@lemmy.world 39 points 3 days ago (4 children)

You find it hilarious. I find it pathetic and sad.

Dismantling safety nets, regulation and government involvement in general, while encouraging rampant capitalism appears to be their main goal here. Are these politicians trying to make Cyberpunk a reality? It seems to be working.

Seems like the only thing they're trying to make happen is to end America's status as a superpower and line their own pockets for as long as possible

They don't seem to know or care what the consequences are

[–] TranquilTurbulence@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago

If another country wanted to shift the balance of power, this is exactly what they would want USA to do. If you can’t beat them in war, you have to play the long game and start dismantling your enemy from the inside.

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You joke, but yes. That's exactly their hope

[–] TranquilTurbulence@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago

I like to discuss heavier topics in this semi-humorous manner. Sort of like a joke, but still kinda serious.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago

That would require a basic level of intelligence and self awareness.

The egg prices where I'm at in the US aren't even that bad. I was just at the store and saw a dozen of the fanciest extra-large pasture-raised, organic-fed eggs were $7.99, and the cheap eggs were $4.35. Is it worse other places?

[–] HappySkullsplitter@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Same here, initially anyways.

Ours were the usual price while people were saying theirs we 7 or 8 dollars

Today ours were over $6

[–] protist@mander.xyz 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

What was the usual price? I obviously have not been paying attention until recently 😂

[–] HappySkullsplitter@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Ours had been a steady $2.83 at Aldi

[–] moe93@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 days ago

I remember when they sold for $0.98 at Aldi 🥲

[–] IonAddis@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I suspect that's the point, this admin is being told to do things that will further humiliate the US on the world stage and further erode the respect the US (no longer) gets.

I know trump doesn't know world history.

But helping Russia and asking Lithuania for help are mutually exclusive options.

Takes a every entitled, narcissistic mind set to shit all over your neighbor's car and porch, threaten them with violence and then ask them for a few eggs to help then through their trying times.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 15 points 3 days ago

The "find out" part of fuck around is already right there, yet most US citizens seem unaware that this is the "find out" stage of how they handled poultry for decades now.

RFK now wants all chickens to get bird flu, because his worm told him so and what could possibly go wrong?

[–] GissaMittJobb@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 days ago

What a pathetic loser move

[–] al_Kaholic@lemmynsfw.com 18 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Egg shortage or you mean egg exploitation?

[–] NOT_RICK_SANCHEZ@lemmy.world 36 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Missed opportunity for eggsploitation, do better.

[–] al_Kaholic@lemmynsfw.com 23 points 3 days ago (3 children)

My bad this is my porn account after all.

[–] NOT_RICK_SANCHEZ@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I’ll let it slide cuz I like the name, it’s like looking in a mirror!

Very eggciting

[–] RamblingPanda@lemmynsfw.com 3 points 3 days ago

We are dozens!

A slight step up from trumps usual door to door scamming

[–] ieatpwns@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

As an American don’t give us eggs we don’t deserve them

[–] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 9 points 3 days ago

US deserve this meme

[–] Eryn6844@beehaw.org 4 points 2 days ago

Don't do it Lithuani, we don't deserve it

[–] Autow00t@infosec.pub 3 points 2 days ago

How each and every single world leader should be responding to requests from the current administration.

[–] Wilco@lemm.ee 3 points 2 days ago

Fuck it, just don't eat eggs.

[–] protist@mander.xyz 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

This request has strong "Have you seen my stapler?" vibes.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

I was told… I could beg for eggs… at a reasonable volume.

[–] al_Kaholic@lemmynsfw.com 4 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Come on how long is it from egg to chicken before it's chicken to egg. You stupid fucking Americans are getting taken advantage of.

[–] Pistcow@lemm.ee 9 points 3 days ago

4.5 months to start laying eggs and about 20 million chickens culled year to date since this map from February.

[–] mkwt@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I think it's a few weeks or so. The problem is that enough flock purges happened over the last while, that it will take several generations to get the numbers back to where they were.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

With Bobby Brainworm in charge of food safety, I’m sure we’ll be eating beached whale carcasses in no time.
