What I find crazier is the next sentence:

You can decline the recording by informing the healthcare professional treating you at the beginning of the appointment. The recording will be deleted immediately once the functionality has generated a proposed patient record entry [own emphasis].

The way I read it, you can't even prevent the AI from listening in, you can have the recorded conversation deleted, but only after the AI has processed it.

I imagine this will backfire at some point when something gets transcribed incorrectly, and causes harm to a patient, or a doctor claims that they never said what is attributed to them. And the resulting lawsuit(s) will put an end to this trend.

This will go horribly horribly wrong many times before laws and lawsuits end it.

I'm in the US (one of the half-MAGA "battleground states") and the doctors in my last 2 appointments asked for my consent for this. Which I declined.

Soon enough they will switch to calling it transcription and not mention the AI aspect due to backlash.

If they decline or "hem and haw", I get up and leave.

Canada. They asked when they rolled it out. I opted out with a big Nope.

But I know a lot of them are doing it, still, and the data goes to an American processor, which violates our privacy laws.

I declined the AI usage at my last appointment.

Just bring a note pad and write down all your issues there. Then just point to it when they ask things.

"Well doctor, since this is actually a debugging session and I'm the admin, I think the procedure must be approved or the AI has failed this test."

I know, I know, it doesn't quite fit what they're doing with "AI" but the scenario was too funny to not post it.

Afaik you have to agree to this for them to be able to do it in Australia, and we are not exactly privacy friendly, I would expect most european countries to be better.

The wording in the 1st section of your screenshot seems jumbled. The decline part should be at the top in its own section, and declining should clearly exclude the other sections.

Looks like a way to reduce the administrative burden of healthcare professionals having to take notes. Back in the day, this was done by the doctor dictating each patient and then having a human transcribe it back onto the medical documents. Having done it before, many years ago after hours, in a dimly lit room, it was a very painful, boring job.
