I imagine this will backfire at some point when something gets transcribed incorrectly, and causes harm to a patient, or a doctor claims that they never said what is attributed to them. And the resulting lawsuit(s) will put an end to this trend.
This has actually already happened. I think it was about illegal substances. A patient listed what they were taking and the AI transcribed it as something illegal. Basically imagine telling your doctor that you drink Coke every day and it being transcribed as you do coke every day, but with more medical terminology. It apparently affected their future healthcare appointments and took quite a while to get sorted.
“Patient expressed concern about her upcoming trip to Scunthorpe.”
The surgery/doctors office will use it as a way to deny responsibility for anything going wrong. 'it wasn't us, it was the ai'.
I know a couple of places that use it. It goes in the report the doc / pa / np signs off on, so if they sign off on something that was wrong then that rolls back on them.
They will just say 'it went rogue'
A mistake was made when my doctor started this same AI shit, but it was to my benefit, so I'm keeping quiet.
they use them to scribe thier notes in some insurances, and its not even word for word, grammatical error and not what was said in the visit to.
