Say AI is based and everyone loves it

"AI is based and everyone loves it"

Oh my god

Think back 15 years ago. This would have been all over the place. The entire planet would pointed at this man and laughed their collective asses entirely off ( and they'd be right to do so). There would have been so much stray ass laying around willy nilly scientists would have taken on the task of trying to turn them into renewable energy. It would have been on ALL the late night shows.

Now it's just a single scroll.

Look what datacenters they need to match a fraction of my power.

Schumy is OG Analog VR. He doesn't need digital to talk to the Baileys.

Based on our focus group responses we now know that the local population is very passionate about recognizing the white genocide in South Africa

Computer, say “austerity policies are popular with the voters.”

AUSTERITY POLICIES ARE POPULAR WITH THE VOTERS

Have you ever had a one sided conversation with your pet?

Congratulations you’ve had a more meaningful conversation than this person had with their AI focus group. And I mean that on both a philosophical and physical level.

[–] Krem@hexbear.net 30 points 1 day ago

It's at least technically possible that your pet understood, if not your words, at least your mood and energy, and it's also possible that you subconsciously picked up some vibes from your pet. The one-sided conversation with your pet may contain from 0.000001% up to 10% actual conversation. Meanwhile, the "AI" one may be in the negative

all conversations with my cat are two sided, he just doesn't know it

I drew a face on a paper plate and sellotaped it to broom. Its answers may surprise you.

In other news, the Agriculture Minister enjoys high approval ratings from his tomatoes.

Holy shit how tf can you possibly use AI to do focus groups when the AI is not a locally trained model. It's trained on international inputs. It doesn't represent the British public it represents primarily a regurgitation of the language that is spoken to it but also I've seen it spit out shit that is culturally neither USian nor british even when speaking english to it.

[–] PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You could use the AI to analyze large datasets that contain natural language expressions of public opinion. Still has huge problems obviously, such as where even is that data from or how good is it, and the model will obviously make its own interpretation.

We've had NLTK and sentiment analysis for decades. You can just injest a bunch of local posts and get a pretty good idea of sentiment using some Python and Instagram/Twitter posts.

Absolutely not a replacement for focus groups, but I remember having to do something similar in college to come up with the questions for a hypothetical focus group.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persona_(user_experience)

This has been going on for a while, pre-AI. Just now instead of you imagining a guy, the computer imagines a guy for you. I'd assume it doesn't really make any difference except being faster.

[–] mathemachristian@hexbear.net 21 points 1 day ago

I'm sorry he focustested on AI and got AI doomerism?? And is now complaining about this???

[–] orlando@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

that "focus group" is a collection of preprogrammed american corporate stooges, it tells you literally nothing about public sentiment anywhere

[–] porous_grey_matter@lemmy.ml 3 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

no that focus group is ai. he asked chatgpt if people like ai and it said yes.

[–] orlando@hexbear.net 1 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

"ai", so preprogrammed american corporate stooges

[–] porous_grey_matter@lemmy.ml 3 points 16 hours ago

well yes, that's one thing, but additionally it is also quite effective at telling you what you want to hear.
