You act like having bedeviled computing is a bad thing, I'll have you know my old computer has tons of demons operating in the background and I still don't know how it works or what the angels are doing.

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 34 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Note to self: make a new system process type called aengel and have it do absolutely fuckall for thousands of years

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 10 points 2 weeks ago

docker compose up -a

Trashcan next to the server starts burning and talking.

Looks like Circular Gallifreyan writing

Yes, these are two sentences

[–] not@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

You spin me right round, baby, right round.
Like a record, baby, right round, round, round.

Is this using sitelen mun? I've always wondered what that would look like for more complex sentences.

Except... sitelen mun doesn't merge circles like that, I think. So is this another way of writing Gallifreyan, or is this from somewhere in Doctor Who?

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I think it is. The connected circles denote words or sentences iirc

[–] zener_diode@feddit.org 4 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

After a closer look at it, I think it might be a different version/some kind of derivative of sitelen mun. Some parts don't make sense, in particular the tiny circle crossing the small circle, for example here

However, it does contain the (more or less) correct syntax for names (multiple different ones). For example here

which I think reads "jan Loulou" or "jan Luoluo".

So I think its close enough to sitelen mun to be based on it, but its definetly something different.

Can't write this shit by hand. Simplify it.

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 weeks ago

The Gallifreyans can

This is a single-layer PCB, neither microscopic nor semiconducting. Rather impressive routing but chip design is at a whole new level that doesn't fit in this little JPEG

[–] the_flying_pig@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

chip design is at a whole new level that doesn't fit in this little JPEG

Perhaps that's why they used this for the meme 🤔

[–] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 17 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

It's possible to show multiple zoom levels with a "crop window" (even recursively for many orders of magnitude) but it takes effort in image editing

Z80 complete + close-up on registers

[–] AnnaFrankfurter@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

This is a shitpost community and you bring up SEM image of 8086 \s

[–] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

This is the Zilog Z80, a very minimalist CPU easy to put into portable hardware like the Game Boy or TI-84

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Um, ackshually, the Game Boy used a derivative of the much older Intel 8080, with some of the Z80 instructions sneaked into it!

[–] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Hard to tell at this resolution, some DIY PCB processes do result in dark stains but you're probably right

[–] rain_enjoyer@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

There is bottom layer trace visible along top edge

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

yeah i think some spots are vias.

Meanwhile, printers have been inhabited, programmed, and manufactured by Satan since their invention.

So, I mean... I don't see what the issue is. It's not like we're not used to demonic infused computing.

[–] halcyoncmdr@piefed.social 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

No it's not Satan, Blood Magic always takes its toll eventually. It's why they need periodic blood sacrifices to operate properly.

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's worse now. HP ink is more valuable per ounce than blood.

How fortunate would we all be to have the glorious HP CMYK following through our veins?

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 2 points 2 weeks ago

That's been true for like 20 years

[–] Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it 3 points 2 weeks ago

Because printers are a pain in the ass, mine has just decided that it cannot use 2 out of 4 colors, even though i made the automatic cleaning 3 times

Oh no! I just remembered a chaos demon I trapped in a Gateway PC from 1998!

Ah the old esoteric demon languages

https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Brainfuck

as a C language enthusiast i mostly deal with nasal daemons

Huh, that is a premise that never occurred to me but now I kinda wanna read it. Thanks for mentioning it!

Engineers are wizards, able to animate silicon rocks by enscribing them with language incomprehensible to normal people.

I let my CPU run without the cooling fans when the demons don't do my bidding 💕 So that they feel more at home

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It works because the symbols are too small for the demon to fit through

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Oh sure totally unrelated to the fact that I ran over them Sammy

Shin Megami Tensei...

[–] einlander@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Looks like your averager RF PCB antenna

[–] rain_enjoyer@sopuli.xyz 8 points 2 weeks ago

everything will antenna if you power it hard enough

[–] AnnaFrankfurter@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Good luck with impedance matching on etched single layer PCB. With all of this crowded traces

[–] einlander@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

The drawings on the right look more like PCB antennas then the actual PCB.

[–] frunch@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Anyone ever heard of a symbolic Hieronymus Machine?

I was fascinated by the concept when i was younger, though I've always assumed it was bullshit.

[–] 0x0@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 weeks ago

Esperanto is hardly esoteric.

[–] finallymadeanaccount@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

How can you have a microscopic megastructure?

[–] RiceMunk@sopuli.xyz 6 points 2 weeks ago

A microscopic megastructure would be just a structure. I would argue that electronics are more like milliscopic decastructures. Or CPU-level stuff could arguably be nanoscopic kilostructures.

[–] 0x0@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 weeks ago

Ir's akin to a macroscopic ministructure, but in reverse.

[–] Mwa@thelemmy.club 3 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

i didnt know PCBS had Sigils in them

[–] Sabata11792@ani.social 5 points 2 weeks ago

That's why your hands often bleed when handling them. They crave.

I remember trapping Minecraft villagers in chambers/ tunnels and using their pathfinding to activate pressure plates to activate various redstone contraptions. Same vibe really
