I’m on stimulants that require not just a prescription, but approval from the manufacturer, quarterly check ins and ekgs. It’s now two in the afternoon and I’m hoping I can make it until three before I have to take my second nap. I’ve been at a friends house for a mid-morning coffee, and after the second cup taken a nap in their guest room. I know exactly what I can and can’t do at finely defined levels of sleepiness. I know what it feels like when part of my brain is asleep but I’m still waking around because I have to feed the pets before I go to bed. I’ve woken up from a nap, drank a monster, had a one hour job interview and then gone back to sleep right after. I experience levels of tiredness every day that you can’t imagine and there are no words for.

What's wrong with you?
If you took a sleeping pill would you be out for 3 days like Jesus?
Sleep debt is real. Take notes about how you feel. Get a good nights sleep for a week, and take notes again. You'll see a difference. Self care isn't like filling a gas tank or taking out the trash, you have to maintain consistency to see the benefits, and once you do, you will.
You feel like this because you subsist on caffeine.
You're addicted and you experience withdrawal symptoms whenever you wake up because at that point you haven't had your drug in several hours.
Hold the phone. Is this the revelation that could solve all my sleep problems? Do you have a source perchance?
Maybe, that’s one possibility. I was like this because I never entered deep wave sleep because of PTSD, normal stress can do that too, not all sleep is equal it doesn’t require you to be doing anything wrong to get bad sleep
shitpost? 😅
Usually comes after my cup of coffee, yeah.
I wish I could stay asleep for 8 consecutive hours, or even go back to sleep after waking up at hour 6 without feeling like shit the rest of the day. Some of my most restorative sleeping has been 4 hours or a 30 minute nap. Sleeping more than 30 minutes and less than 4? Straight to sleepy jail. More than 4 hours, but a little less than six? Sleepy jail. More than 8 hours? Probably dead, definitely at least sleepy jail where nothing productive happens.
I started taking a psych med some time ago that evidently is sometimes used as a sleep aid in people. I sleep like the fucking dead now lol.
Seroquel did that for me, best sleep I've had in my life lol
I'm disabled and unshackled by society's notions of time. So I go to sleep when I'm tired and wake up when I'm done. I often sleep for 10-12 hours.
Sounds nice. Enjoy your sleep
“Sounds nice” is such a weird thing to say when someone says they’re disabled
You might have sleep apnea.
I thought I had sleep apnea for sure, so I went in and I had a couple sleep studies done. Negative for sleep apnea and other sleep disorders, so they ordered an arterial blood gas. All my levels came back perfect, so they referred me to an ENT because they did catch a lot of snoring. Five minutes with the ENT and they saw I have a badly deviated septum that pretty much keeps me from breathing through my right nostril. So now I'm on a trial of breathing strips at night to see if surgery will be a good option.
I had a badly deviated septum too. I highly recommend the septoplasy surgery. The strips just DO NOT work 😭. My nose hurt like hell and bled for two weeks (during covid too), but it’s worth it. I would also look into getting proper pillow support, if yours is not tall enough. I add some towels underneath my head to correct my neck’s shape.
Yep! It’s one of the surgeries that seem to just work. I had mine done at 14 and it’s been fantastic. I don’t think I’ve heard anyone ever say it wasn’t worth it. I love when medicine just works
I’ve had over a dozen sinus surgeries cause I have cystic fibrosis and I’m pediatric size so all the passages needed to be widened but the deviated septum was a HUGE improvement the only other one that came close was when they opened the back passage connecting my nose to my mouth
Sleep is a scam. I feel the same when i sleep 10 hours and 5 hours.
You need consistent 8, not sporadic 10s and 12s.
When I do a 12hr sleep, I feel like my brain atrophied in my sleep, wake up and stay foggy all day.
Something something sleep debt.
At this point I figure I'm so far in the hole I just don't worry about it much anymore. Plenty of time to catch up once I'm dead.
Yeah, it takes a bit to “pay back” the owed debt, but it’s a matter of a couple if weeks at most. Sleeping well and long for two-three days in a row should already have positive effects. While sleeping long only once might make you feel even more tired - or at least that’s how I feel.
You need to get a sleep study.
Same. Sometimes I feel better with less hours myself.
Getting a CPAP has changed my wife’s life for the better. That and metformin
Yep. If you feel like this no matter how many hours of sleep you're getting, you should have a sleep study done. Apnea can kill you, no shit.
What's that?
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure machine.
It's a medical device used to prevent sleep apnea, a condition where your breathing stops during sleep, which causes the lack of oxygen (or CO2 build-up? I can't remember which) to trigger you to wake up, disrupting your sleep. This leads to sleep deprivation, even when you may have thought that you managed to get a full night's sleep.
The machine treats the condition by continuously pushing down air down your airways, which makes the breathing interruptions impossible, leading to less sleep interruptions.
Over time, the condition may lead to complications that are more serious than mere sleep deprivation, such as heart disease.
One of the symptoms people near you may notice is snoring. Another is constantly being tired, sometimes to the point of for example falling asleep while driving.
It's a condition that should be treated quite seriously. If the symptoms line up particularly well for you, then a sleep study might be a good idea.
The treatment isn't exactly fun, but I can tell you from personal experience that it will change your life. Being treated actually gave me the energy to take care of the problem of overweight that I had, which was the root cause behind the sleep apnea. I have been symptom-free for many years now.
Mask you wear that inflates you slightly like a balloon when you sleep so you don't suffer from periods of not breathing during the night.
Sleep apnoea is the name of the condition it treats.
It is quite nice to treat it. It may reduce the amount of days you wake up and feel like you never slept.
Sleep apnoea also increases risk of heart attack and stroke.
DW would definitely be a little bitch either way
It's Lupus.

It's never lupus
Idk, for me it changes around 5h. <5h I literally cannot get up. >5h and I somehow manage to get through the day
I'll sleep, when i'm dead
8 hours look better
