Fuck AI

"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

Kentucky was labeled “Venecky". Louisiana was "Lookoong." Alabama was “Alotome.” Illinois was “Vitoiis.” South Carolina was "Sorth Cuanto."

"Arizona is Arizone. Illinois starts with a V. I mean, it's crazy," Morris said.

There was an article that came up a little while ago about a new private school that was going to teach the children of wealthy people using AI. I'm starting to think we should encourage this, or at least not discourage it, just sit back and watch.

You know, you’ve got an excellent point.

[–] spicehoarder@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

Probably isn't a whole lot of difference to what goes on in rich private schools anyway.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 8 points 1 week ago

The next generations are gonna have an entirely new dialect based on the AI slop that somehow got put in their school textbooks without anyone in the editorial or approval processes saying "hey wait what is this shit?"

They're going to be so screwed, holy shit

Wow that periodic table is a fucking mess.

These are the morons that fully bought into the "AI like in the movies" hype.

So these are obviously screenshots of a video... What was the video about? Was the video itself AI-generated?

(Not challenging you on this or anything, just curious the overall topic)

[–] Mac@mander.xyz 4 points 1 week ago

The news story in the article that i linked in the post... lol

[–] LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I also want to know. For me. I wanna see it, this looks hilarious.

[–] Mac@mander.xyz 3 points 1 week ago (3 children)

As someone educated in Ohio public schools, this looks completely accurate to me and I don't understand why anyone is upset.

[–] _cnt0@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 week ago

Well, that went sorth quickly.

Morris emailed the principal on the first day of school but says she never received a response.

When WDRB asked JCPS about this, Wednesday the district's executive officer of communications said "I appreciate you bringing this to my attention. I spoke with the school today about inaccuracies in their agenda, and they are communicating with parents about the issue."

The communications officer ignored the issue until the press brought it up, and then responded with something 95% sure was AI-generated. Perfect.

Seorgia, Okchoma, and Netnaska are my favorites

[–] ShutUpWesley@piefed.zip 7 points 1 week ago

I mean, it's probably not worse than what Kentucky was already teaching them.

[–] Blackfeathr@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Ah yes, the great state of Seorgia.

It's a fucking agenda which gets printed every year on information that isn't changing.

Why have ai generate anything when it could have just printed the same info from any agenda in the previous decade?

Can't wait to visit the great city of GoWago (Chicago)

[–] ray@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This map has some pretty funny errors north of the border too. Quebec became Ontaric and Quebec City became Ontawio. And I'm having trouble making out the names it hallucinated for Vancouver and Manitoba, but it looks like Venncouer and Mallnnta.

[–] lividweasel@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

Ontawio

Netruska is very funny as well. Sounds like a russian ISP.

[–] chilicheeselies@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

To me the sin ain't so much that they used AI, it's that they were so fucking lazy about it that they didn't bother to check it. What else weren't they checking before they used the AI slop?

[–] Gork@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 week ago (3 children)

It did all that and still got Ohio right? Why?!

[–] ech@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 week ago

Because Ohio is a meme.

As a Texan, listing those two cities instead of any other two might be min/maxing the confused/pissed off people ratio.

Florida doesn't even get named. Florida, therefore, doesn't exist.

Nah, they're just future-proofing the design for when sea levels rise enough to bring more than half of Florida into the intertidal zone

[–] gibmiser@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Close enough!

[–] Sarothazrom@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Ohio completely unchanged as it is an si generated voidspace in the first place.

Seorgia on my mind

[–] leadore@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

I came here to post this story if someone hadn't yet. It's infuriating!
