become a hollow-earther instead
the lore is better
I'm intrigued. Tell me more!
Is this the one saying people are living under the earth or that there isn't anything inside the earth? 🤔
that's the beauty of it, you can mix and match!
there's one with a single, concave layer; there's one with several layers
there's even a twist on the concave one that says we're on the inside, our surface surrounding the entire known universe
and then, you know, there can be dinosaurs, nazi werewolves, etc...
ooooooh. That sounds much more fun.

Always wanted to start a cult, I think I would be pretty good at it
The Cult of Spaceman Jones
If you think about it, communism is a cult, man, and like, Karl Marx is Jim Jones...
I'd probably do a lot better than Jim Jones
For one, I wouldn't kill a bunch of people for no reason
Yeah much better to kill a bunch of people for solid reasons.
Can't argue w that
I sometimes get dangerously close to joining a cult, so I'll join you!
And the first domino falls
you need a good chant, and some lima beans that look like you.

Way ahead of you
Fuck it I'm on board. Maybe we can do it as a bit so good it spawns an actual cult.
Pretty sure the flat earth thing started out as a thought experiment on debate forums to defend an untenable position and it got out of hand.
Spaceman
I always wanted you to go
In to space man
Intergalactic Christ
Just in time, Time Cube is coming back in style, so there's that.
Old? Have you got into birding yet?
I am currently 'getting in to birding' which has also coincided w a new photography hobby. I'm also enjoying it, which means I'm getting old.
ugh, please don't...
the flat earth fandom doesn't need more bandwagoners.
I mean, fuck it, why not? What material difference would it be to get into flat earthing compared to anything else? Unless you're that guy who made the homemade rocket to prove the earth is flat of course.
I thought for a while that sea-people retvrnism was picking up steam here. Oh well
You could reread VALIS and make it your personality.
I have yet to read VALIS, but I'm tempted! I like a bunch of his other stuff, but I know this one is extremely weird even compared to his other works and I haven't been brave enough to dive in yet
How, uh, comprehensible is VALIS, in your opinion? I don't mind weird and difficult, but how much effort would I need to understand each paragraph, and is the work worth putting in the effort?
I actually dreamed VALIS before I read it, some variation of the plot at least, which was a weird experience given its plot.
It's no Gravity's Rainbow if that's what you are worried about. I don't think the language is more difficult than his other writing, there's more rabbling though.
Oh I bet that was a weird experience for sure!
I think I'll try reading VALIS sooner rather than later, it's encouraging to hear it's not super difficult, just rambly. I can easily deal with some ramble!
If you like to play pretend, just get into TTRPGs
I highly recommend going into A Song of Ice and Fire valyrian steel tinfoil hat conspiracies. Here are some benefits
- Fun conspiracy theories involving ancient aliens, time travel, time traveling fetus, magic, space travel, ctulhu deep ones, etc. in a world where magic actually exists
- Passionate fanbase
- Fictional world, so everything is literally by design and there is no such things as coincidence
- Hundreds hours worth of human made podcasts and content to listen/sleep to
- That bum GRRM will never finish his book so you'll never be proven wrong (or right)
- It is actually inconsequential to your IRL beliefs
- The books are okay I guess, by no means necessary to read
Ok, I'm interested! Can you give me a brief rundown of a valyrian steel conspiracy theory? I think I remember the books well enough to follow!
There's many youtube videos on ASOAIF conspiracy iceberg. The very top one is obviously R+L=J, Jon Snow parents being Rhaegar and Lyanna. Many of the more sane predictions are around this level. The mid level contains things like John Bolton is an immortal vampire. There are a lot of theories that rely on "World of Ice and Fire" book, which is a companion world lore book published by GRRM and his editors in 2014 describing other humanoids (webbed feet, Neanderthals, winged man, etc.) and fantastical creatures in regions faraway from Westeros. There's a theory that "squishers" (https://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Squishers) which is the ctulhu-fish people built many of Westeros landmarks, like the actual Hightower (described as built on oily black stone foundation), which is similar to how the book described stones in Asshai. Then the bottom of the iceberg you get borderline shitposts, like Tyrion being a time traveling fetus and "X skinchanged into Y" during "Z".
Oh gotcha! I've definitely heard of some of these before (R+L=J is basically canon at this point, no? And Tyrion the time-traveling fetus I've heard of too, surprisingly)
I misread your comment as saying that there were a bunch of silly fan theories specifically surrounding valyrian steel, and I'm not sure I've ever heard of any of those!
You may want to derive your own shape. The flat earth space is saturated, and so is concave and convex earth.
damn. Always a day late and a dollar short.
The Earth was actually a cube, but the corners were cut off to create the Greater Pyramids of the, uh, Shrieking Bird Men. After they left the Earth to explore the cosmos, natural, scientific, processes of erosion made it into a mere "sphereoid".
As evidence, old Chinese coins and Masonic symbolism both used a square as representative of the Earth.
Ever read The Department of Truth? It gets into flat earthism very early in a fun way. The premise is basically "What if people's beliefs manifested as reality if enough of them believe in something?"
If we cant deny reality is a simulation, everything is possible. What is the limit or why a simulation would have limit if we are not the ones controlling it?
Said this, flat-earth can be a temporally reality.
But if reality is a simulation (like Matrix or Trumans Show), we want to be free, right? If so, on a "real reality" could a planet be flat? How would phisics support it? Can we force phisics to not have logic?
Why stop at consuming crackpot theories, writing your own is so much fun!
