It doesn't even have to be about politics - this can be lifestyle, philosophy, or movie critique. Maybe a different celebrity for each different thing you're particularly opinionated on.

I'm fond of Anthony Bourdain's views on cooking, for instance, and on how to learn cookery. But he's a bit of a rascal when it comes to how he treats others.

I like C.S Lewis's views on life, faith, and epistemology.

As for politicians, well, I doubt any politician alive today accurately shares my views. But i could composite from a few; for instance i found it sensible that Jeremy corbyn (UK ex-leader of Labour) wanted to nationalise many things asap no matter the shock to the economy - buying them back presumably becomes harder the more time that passes.

AOC2028!

Next question?

I find that public figures often disappoint if I relate to them too much. That parasocial relationship angle gets fucky. So there's a handful of people that I return to time and again for their viewpoints.

Emily Nagoski and Dan Savage's views on sex.

Amy Taylor and Kathleen Hanna for how they live their lives unapologetically in the face of sexism.

I'll add Mamdani onto the pile for now to cover a politician. I haven't seen anything I disagree with so far.

Amy Taylor from Amyl and the Sniffers? I only know her through a guest appearance on a Bob Vylan song, haven't looked into her further yet. I did manage to gather some Amyl albums, I'll give those a listen tonight.

Brennan Lee Mulligan seems to have decent takes on most things. Not on proper social media though.

Bernie Sanders.

most comedians are far too centrist for me, but i enjoy how they piss on the extreme left and the extreme right and their delusional self-destructive agendas. it's terrifying how many people take extremest views seriously.

[–] 474D@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

None of them. It takes a certain type of personality to attain, and especially maintain, that level of public highlight. Dig deep enough or long enough, and you will always be disappointed. There's a few where I hope I'm proved wrong, but the numbers aren't favorable

I'm somewhere between Robert Evans and Benn Jordan on politics and tech.

I like Calling In Sick Magazine for cycling stuff as they seem to be one of the only ones in that space with a "don't worry about what you ride, just ride" ethos.

He not my favorite musician but I love how Chris Thile talks about music and just seems to generally just love music.

As far as media/cultural discussions I've always really liked Mike Rugnetta.

[–] Identikit@leminal.space 1 points 1 day ago

Shout out for Benn Jordan as I’d say similar and add in Michael Burns for philosophy and politics.

Comedians: Bill Hicks, George Carlin and Doug Stanhope.

Musicians: Peter Spilles, Robert Del Naja and Gregory John McCormick.

Politicians: Bernie Sanders and many leftists from Europe.

[–] First_Thunder@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

which leftists from europe

[–] AbsolutelyNotSpez@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The ones who at least slightly match Bill Hicks, I suppose? 🤷‍♀️

I am too tired to create a list of names here since our dog underwent surgery today and my mind is slightly in shambles by now.

[–] Swaus01@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Hoping the best for your dog and for you

Public I don't know. Ron Swanson is a fictional character that sometimes feels like he could be a caricature of me.

[–] Swaus01@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago

Ron Swanson is the greatest libertarian thinker ever..... so staunch to his ideals, and, since he is not a fascist, he's open to other people's political ideas and we see him change his stances on things. I didn't like parks and rec that much but i loved him.

[–] Paradachshund@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

I forget his name but the lead game designer for Path of Exile. I'm an indie game designer, and when I listen to interviews with that guy I feel like I'm listening to myself talk game design philosophy.

Weirdly, I don't like PoE, so not sure how to reconcile that part. 😅

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago

not sure but like waltz kinda is like me for a politician. I mean closest I have seen. Really don't know him enough though.

[–] tacosanonymous@mander.xyz 2 points 1 day ago

Well, quit keeping the dream and start living it.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Abigail Thorne

Well thank you for that recommendation! I hadn't heard of her before.

[–] tacosanonymous@mander.xyz 1 points 1 day ago

No problem. I love Philosophy Tube.

[–] starlinguk@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Sam Neill did.

[–] Iconoclast@feddit.uk 0 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Sam Harris, though it's not accidental as many of my views comes from him.

[–] theherk@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I used to feel this way and still do to some extent. But he has lost me on the Israel conflict. Certainly on religion itself and philosophy I agree with him a lot. Much like how, conversely, with Mehdi Hassan, I agree a ~~but~~ bit politically, but not on religion.

The only people I can never recall taking issue with are Hitch and Fry, and even they probably have views I don’t like.

The only response to a jihad, logically, is a genocide. And good riddance.

Sam Harris is based.

GTFO with your pedophile profit.

I know what i spelled. What does fucking children have to do with race?

[–] Smif_N_Lenin@piefed.social 1 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Every accusation is a confession with you freaks

[–] Krusty@quokk.au 1 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Muhammad married a 6-year-old and fucked her when she was 9. Go read a book.

[–] Smif_N_Lenin@piefed.social 1 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

That's not a response to either of the articles about Harris' statements. How brain-dead can you be?

You know who are the ones advocating for child marriage laws? Republicans, White Christian Nationalists.

[–] Iconoclast@feddit.uk 1 points 1 day ago

Nope, I got the name right.
