I had a lot on Connect but, since switching to Piefed, I've lost most of them. I'm curious if there are any new ones I should save!

Honestly I never bothered to figure out how but gave always been curious if anyone has me tagged but that thread of narcissism has been largely supplanted by the realization that I'm not enough of a main character to have made it onto the blocklist.

[–] toynbee@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

FWIW, since tags are stored client side and Lemmy itself doesn't support creating them, I'm pretty sure you can't see what anyone else has tagged you.

I also wasn't on the block list, but I mostly avoid discussing politics here, so that makes sense.

[–] Apytele@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

you can't see what anyone else has tagged you.

Well obviously. It's thy he classic allure of wanting to know what others think of you, or even that you're noticeable enough for them to border thinking about you at all.

[–] toynbee@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ahhh, I apologize. I had just woken up from a nap and misread

Honestly I never bothered to figure out how but gave always been curious if anyone has me tagged

... as indicating that you hadn't bothered to figure out how to check what people had tagged you. My mistake!

Just so you no longer have to wonder, I'll figure out something to tag you.

[–] Apytele@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

Nah that was a legit interpretation of that text as written hence the clarification.

None. I wouldn't bother. You are a bunch of anonymous randos and liars. That is how the internet works.

Also, from the BBS days to today, I have never blocked anyone. I just don't care that much.

You liars.

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 1 day ago

Same. I don't know, maybe it would be kind of cool to see someone reappear in a totally different context on a large platform. On here you get to know a lot of the other major users anyway.

[–] toynbee@piefed.social 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I have blocked a very few people, but mostly because they tried to scam me with various levels of success.

[–] NewNewAugustEast@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It always helps to really use the rule of thumb: everyone on the internet is a liar. Be anonymous and keep everyone else that way.

You won't get scammed anymore.

[–] toynbee@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Oh, the one that was successful was a huge number of years ago. The other that wasn't was fairly recent, but I'm canny enough that I blocked them early. Thank you for the advice though.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago

I tend to just use thumbs up and down along with 100% and delete emojis as my own personal rating system

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I have /u/WorldsDumbestMan tagged as "Leader of the Free World" because of their username and who the current US president is.

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

You're my dumbest tag. You were the one who taught me they exist (or someone teaching you and I saw it? I don't remember). Did this to test it and just never took it off.

[–] ParadoxSeahorse@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I have this one for a user named after a famous Star Trek captain:

Tesseract douche

[–] VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Patrick was never a captain, he jumped straight to admiral. The fastest rise in Starfleet's ranks ever, actually.

[–] toynbee@piefed.social 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] ParadoxSeahorse@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Earlier captain

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I have none. My client, Jerboa, doesn't support it. I personally don't feel the need. If someone has a negative interaction with me, it's either negative enough that I remember their name, or small enough of a deal that I don't want it affecting the way I interact with them in the future. Generally if someone is that bad, I block them.

[–] toynbee@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago

Not to say that I've never done it, but I don't use them for negative things very often. I just like to remind myself of things. For example, I've started a few Lemmy friendships that then moved to one messenger or another; I have those users tagged with their first names so I'm sure to notice when a post is by a friend.

Or, back when I used Connect, I had quite a few tags; a lot of them were because a user said something interesting about themselves of which I wanted to make note. One that comes to mind - though I'm not sure if this person is still around - was a user who said "I'm just a construction worker with a camera" so I tagged them as such.

A way to mark a user in a way that you recognize but which only you can see. For example, this is a screenshot I took, the one that inspired this question. (Not my most creative tags TBH)

[–] IcedRaktajino@startrek.website 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Interesting or useful?

I don't think I have any really interesting ones, but the most useful one I have for people is "Always On".

Basically when I see that tag, I can mentally prepare myself and roll my eyes before reading. Basically it's for people who just do nothing but preach at you regardless of the topic being discussed. It's...pretty useful.

[–] toynbee@piefed.social 1 points 2 days ago

I can see how it would be, but I think you and I use tags differently.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 7 points 2 days ago

I use emojis to mark accounts that are trolls/jerks/morons as a reminder not to engage with them instead of just adding everyone to the blocklist as a lot of accounts that have interesting posts are terrible in the comments.

For example, 🤪💩 is a dumbshit. If they love AI I throw in a 🤖.

My angry comments have gone way down as being able to tag someone feels like down voting them as a user.

[–] papalonian@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I only have one and it's for a user I see pop up every once in a while, the tag is "nobody wants to sleep with them" and I cannot remember the context at all

[–] toynbee@piefed.social 3 points 2 days ago

Most of my tags are pretty specific, but there are a few for which I've forgotten context as well. Back on Connect I had a user tagged as "no tire kickers" and I only very, very vaguely remember why.

[–] LORDSMEGMA@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I have someone tagged as "Good Noodle" and I don't remember why

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 2 points 1 day ago

Well, I take it there hasn't been an interaction that made you feel like they're a bad noodle since then. So that's a good sign.

[–] toynbee@piefed.social 1 points 2 days ago

That's awesome.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Most of mine were made to keep track of all of Grim Reapers alt accounts.

I haven't seen any in a while, so I think I've lost the trail.

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

People who I was a jackass to and should probably be less of a jackass towards

Oh and people using socks to indulge their obvious inner jackass while keeping their main account looking holesum and nice-pilled

[–] queerlilhayseed@piefed.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I have you tagged with "🫡 good vibes soldier" from a conversation we had a while ago that I have since forgotten. Makes me smile when I see it.

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Really actually? Thank you that's reassuring. I think I haven't always been that person but I'm glad it's happened before. Now the tag is mutual 😁

[–] queerlilhayseed@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yep! it was a while ago, I think we were talking about how bad vibes are contagious, and how good vibes are also contagious; something like that.

[–] Jumbie@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago

Hey guys! I want in on this club! I know the secret handshake!

[–] Nighed@feddit.uk 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I have someone tagged as "hates nice food"

[–] toynbee@piefed.social 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What food do you think of as nice?

[–] Nighed@feddit.uk 3 points 2 days ago

Someone was against home cooked food, I think Bolognese was the example I was using.

[–] everett@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 days ago

Has a "contemplating poop" face
