All of the things that were supposed to help us by making our lives easier really helped them and now our lives are harder. I don't see an end to that.

That's why they're mounting one outside the high school. So you can drive by to unlock it if you forget to do it before you leave.

One of my schools is using the Yondr pouches. I haven't researched them to see how they work- something about a big magnet mounted outside the school.

Good luck. Be gentle. They know they're aging and have likely talked about things between themselves. Old age doesn't really sneak up on you but it's hard to know what's right when. I feel guilty every day for not being more gentle and understanding with my mom.

8 x 42, though it's really more like 5 x 42.

They may feel they way about me. I got in trouble today for sending an email telling them what they need to buy for a classroom. "How dare you tell us what we need!! What do we need? Where do we get that?"

We're screwed when...

My boss (who is horrible) gave out little encouragement cards to everyone. I'm one of two especially vocal people in my department. We both got cards that say "You never cease to amaze me." 🤣🤣🤣 I keep it on my desk as a badge of honor.

Sometimes not all that elaborate

I'm just saying that servers don't want to change the system because they make so much more with tips. If they make less than minimum wage then the restaurant is required to make up the difference.

I'm in Texas and here's it's - Bless your heart.

Since ours in the US is generally a percentage of the bill, people in expensive restaurants can make more. Do they work harder? Do they have fewer tables so less checks are tipping? 20% tips on 5 hundred dollar tables is $100 every 60-90 minutes, but shifts are usually only a few hours. So maybe $3-400 for a 4-5 hour dinner shift? In a diner you'd are probably half that per table but for more tables and faster turnover. What's a good wage?

Would you like to share your current reading list?

I just finished Never Flinch- one of Stephen King's Holly books. Was good.

Currently reading Knife- Salman Rushdie's book about his attack.

I think Catch-22 is next. I've never read it.

I tried Dungeon Crawler Carl but gave up on about page 16.

My son gave me a book called How to Live with Objects. I tend to pick it up when I want something non-scrolling. It's pretty good.

We inherited my mom's house and started remodeling a year and a half ago. Funding it by selling our house, which meant we had to move in mid reno. 29 foundation piers to stabilize (not fully level), cast iron to PVC, copper to PEX, new electrical panel, new HVAC, all new floors, drywall, doors, windows, cabinets, and bathrooms. The only things that remain are one window and the brick fireplace. I think it would have been cheaper to build a new house. Also working on the outside- new paint, gutters, had to replace all soffits and trim because it was waterlogged mdf. Here's a pic of my husband's new greenhouse - used our old windows and fence boards where we could.

I searched a bit and found that channels with more than 1000 subscribers and 4000 views earn money. Can i subscribe and set my tv to play videos for a favorite charity all day and have that earn $ (even if it's only a few cents per day) for them?

Any recommendations on doorbell cameras? I used to have Ring and it was ok. Moved and got Blink- sucks, didn't realize it was battery only, constantly dead. Looking at Eufy from Costco- hardwired and no subscription because it uses local storage. Thoughts?

Went to the dentist recently and complained that my teeth have been very sensitive recently to hot, cold, sweet, and especially to apples. Doc said i brush too hard and gave me a script for a tube of flouride stuff thats supposed to help rebuild enamel. Instructions say to use it as toothpaste but doc note says to apply at bedtime. Anyone tried it? Did it help?

I'm old. When our teacher brought copies to class we would all smell them. What was that called?

Champagne? Opening the front and back doors to let the old air out and new air in? Will the new air really be any better?

Trump leaves office (dead, impeached, whatever). JD goes to jail. Our speaker of the house takes over. That's my hope for Jan 2027.

There's a financial 'sweet spot' for my kids regarding when i pass. Before retirement we're still adding to savings. After retirement it gets tricky with health and lifestyle.

I'm on crutches. Was planning to take a baked brie but don't feel like standing in the kitchen to make it. Someone will already do chicken nuggets. Have any ideas for a hot appetizer or something people will like i can pick up on the way?
