So, actually a long story

A neighbour of us took up a stray cat, that obviously asked for help and always came up to him.

So he took her in and in the first night at him, she got 2 kittens.

As their apartment is a little small at the moment (they're just about to move to a nice one with a garden) and as they already have a cat, we took over.

Mother cat is surprisingly well behaved, but for the first days asked for quite some attention.
Like even calling us, when she needs to go to the toilet - and informed us, when she's finished.

As she also has a wound from her gangster life, we had the vet here today to check on her and the kittens, and everything is pretty much fine.

But...well, quite some more action in the last days here ;⁠-⁠)

I've build them a hideout with blankets, but already in the first night she decided the little room, which was the toilet room of our sadly deceased cat ('bout a year ago), was the better place to be.
So now we put some blankets there and a warning matt.

They all seem to be quite happy and mother is very friendly and chill.

We're already heart broken, when the neighbours get to their new flat.
But with a garden it's obviously the better option...

Kittens are now like 6 days old and start to move a bit more - and not just rolling around on their full bellies :⁠-⁠)

I'm starting to lack sleep

We're fostering mom (the eyes) and her one little kitten (the floof). Mama's so malnourished that the shelter didn't realize she was pregnant until they found this one little kitten in her cage one morning.

Mama was super stressed so we are fostering to give her a quieter and less stressful environment. Floof (Fernando) picked up an eye infection so we're also treating that. Yesterday was the first day that both mom and baby braved leaving their den while I was in the room. My absolute favourite part of fostering strays is helping them learn to trust people.

Once everyone is happy, healthy, and spayed/neutered, it'll be adoption time - so if you are near Calgary, Canada and in need of some unconditional ~~judgment~~ ~~love~~ grudging tolerance, look for these two at AARCS.

Mama Cat (not Broccoli Cheddar's mama) has been showing me her babies every time I go to the barn. First time she showed them to me, they were still wet.

I told her she did a good job and she started purring.

The gray one I think is gonna be adopted and demandsattention from everyone. The dark orange one wants to fight everyone and everything. The light orange one seems like it has legit brain damage or something. Something isn't right with it, but it's still giving it's all lol

That said I am recommending 3 products. But you can purchase them from many places made by many different companies. I buy a lot of craft stuff from AliExpress so I'm including screenshots from there.

Also all 3 of these items are less than $2 each.

Item 1.
My cats prefer eva foam kneeling pads to cat scratching materials like jute and cardboard scratchers.

I buy mine at the dollar tree during the summer and stock up for the rest of the year as they are only sold in spring and summer.

Item 2. Suede cord. I think mine is 8 or 10mm wide. I prefer this over ribbon because the cat's claws can't get caught in it and it doesn't fray. I think my cat likes it because they can bite it and it has a nice soft give to it.

Item 3. Sold as TPU or rubber wraps for phone cords. These come in a ton of colors. Very inexpensive. I like these because they don't fray and cat's claws don't get caught in them. The cat likes them because it mimics pulling meat and chewing on phone cords.

Occasionally my cats get bored of these ribbon alternatives for a while but then always rediscover them. That seems to be common with how they like their other toys too. I find that hiding the toys they aren't using for a month or two makes them more likely to show interest again.

Anywho. If you have some toy or product alternatives you have found that work well with your cats. Please share. especially if they are inexpensive alternatives.

She brought it through her door 😭

I was just trying to coax the orange goober (above) onto the bed. He decided to jump over the laundry hamper, the tall one you put dirty clothes in not the short one you dress out of. Anyways, my wife is asleep and when I told her about this in her sleep she told the cat "good boy" so I think she is still asleep.

Anyways I have buried the lede long enough, my boy biffed it. He missed the bed and landed in the basket. I used to only have three regrets, and now I have four and one is not getting this on film. He looked so betrayed.

We will be starting a gofundme for the good tuna for his emotional recovery my boy needs sushi. I might not sleep tonight I have the giggles.

The black cat is named Ozzy, and he is on a diet so we're trying to make feeding more social instead of having a bowl for all of them to share. Ozzy is also a good boy, but he doesn't like to play as much so he's not in most of the pictures.
