Putting images from google or another restaurant is obviously wrong because it makes a misleading menu, they know it's wrong because they aren't trying that, but they also think same act is totally fine if they simply add AI.
The AI food on the poster looks absolutely horrifying, especially that "slaw" and "pulled pork". Why would anyone think people would find that appetizing or draw anyone inside? Even if it didn't look fake like plastic toy food, people want to see photos of the actual food you are selling, not a bizarre "concept" of the food. Huge mistake but the fact that they still don't understand why people reacted negatively is not a good sign for their business.
They got some company to do this. AI generated and no one with artistic training to vet it before delivery.
Stellantis did the same thing with AI generated ads for RAM trucks that generated images of Toyota trucks, US flag with 40 stars, which may be accurate in a few years.

That was my thought too. Low res some things looked a bit off, but high res is a mixture of gross and creepy.
As the owner, how would you see that and think that it'd make people come in to eat?

In Quebec, they have a law that the French verbage on a sign has to be at least twice the size of anything in English, and they have authorities who walk around with a ruler, and literally measure the lettering on signs, and issuing tickets.

They hadn’t made any food, and it doesn’t sound like they ever made this food. They hired chefs after they opened to make smash burgers… fml like if they even had any idea what food was this wouldn’t have happened.
They wanted to open a business, they probably just asked an LLM for a [target audienece] selection of foods and that was it. Probably a deserved indictment

We all hate AI, why is that so hard for people to understand? Don't use it, stop using it. If it's not for a niche scientific study for the betterment of mankind, then fucking do it yourself.
Food pictures are supposed to represent the food you offer. An AI image isn't the food the customer will be getting. It's straight up dishonest, and when you put it in the front window, you've lied to your customer before they've even walked in the door. Not a good start.
I've owned restaurants before, and I've always fought with partners and investors about having photos of the food on the walls. It never looks like the actual product, and it only causes customers to do comparisons, and in most cases, the actual product will look worse. You don't want your customers looking at perfectly good food, and thinking it's shitty because it doesn't look like the perfectly photographed product shot on the wall.
If one photographs actual food, it also will look disgusting, because what we have in our brain as picture of food is idealized. One can easily try and make a photo of one'd favourite dish before eating, and print it out.
Perhaps the sudden loss of a neighborhood staple — Citrus Club was open for decades and frequented for its cheap noodles and creative cocktails — made it hard to win favor with the tight-knit community.

I can see the connection if you judge it as a leap from a human, down to earth restaurant to the souless, AI driven slop factory that this new restaurant seemed to want to brand itself as.
