I hate to break it to ya, but Red Lobster was gutted by private finance. The lack of shrimp is a symptom of capitalism.

[–] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 6 points 1 month ago

Under communism, we will have the Red Lobste. The mascot is a lobster but it only serves tofu

I'm telling you all, the newly redoubled aggression against Cuba is about sugarcane so that Coca-Cola can cheaply put cane sugar in their trash drink.

[–] into_highest_invite@lemmygrad.ml 23 points 1 month ago (3 children)

i doubt they're gonna start putting cane sugar in us coke again. corn lobby would tear out trump's ass on live tv. they tolerate the mexican coke thing but i think fully switching back would be a bridge too far.

Convert corn overproduction to ethanol instead, simple as.

Oil companies are somewhat famously having a few problems right now continuing to supply fuel, I think they'd be okay with it.

First I'm hearing of this

Sugarcane makes better booze

i doubt they’re gonna start putting cane sugar in us coke again

last july trump did actually say coca-cola would be switching to real sugar; after initially declining to confirm anything coca-cola said they would make coke with real sugar available alongside HFCS coke... which apparently happened in october in "select U.S. markets":

Coca-Cola Company's Chief Financial Officer John Murphy said during an interview with Bloomberg on Tuesday, Oct. 21, that supply chain challenges are limiting the rollout.

"It’s going to be a measured roll-out,” Murphy told Bloomberg. “There is only a certain amount of cane sugar available in the United States.”

[–] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago

Has anyone actually seen this in person? As far as I can tell they only released it in 6 packs of 8 oz glass bottles in a few cities for a couple of months, interspersed with the HFCS ones on the shelves.

I haven't found any confirmation that anyone has seen a single one since December, either.

What if there were to be a night of long scythes and all the corn was cut down?

[–] THEPH0NECOMPANY@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Marco Rubio brought one of those boards with photos pinned to them and string linking everything together to try to justify an invasion of Cuba to Trump before he realized he could just tell him that regular Coke would be more popular with cane sugar which means more diet coke for Trump.

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Someone should tell Trump how much better diet coke would taste if they legalize some sweeteners that are banned pretty much only in the US.

[–] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I think that's just cyclamate.

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 1 points 1 month ago

yes that's what it says on my aldi brand cola.

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

You really think the US would do something like that? That would be like if they overthrew South American governments and installed puppet dictatorships all so that banana companies could sell cheap bananas back in the states!

[–] Athena5898@hexbear.net 25 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'll hear people talk about treats and America and I'll think, man don't have a lot but I'll sacrifice my comforts if it means a better world. Then I read shit like this and go "oh...oh right I live in a different reality then most of these people." For me a treat is like the occasional Ice cream or stuffie. Big thing is video game stuff and crafting things if I save up. Not...invading a country to get endless shrimp from red lobster back...

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago

the best part is it wouldn't even be endless shrimp (queue that episode of the Simpsons where they sue over the all you can't eat buffet)

[–] FnordPrefect@hexbear.net 21 points 1 month ago

kelly Red Lobster-raum

[–] btbt@hexbear.net 20 points 1 month ago

Its impossible to articulate how stupid the people who will decide the fates of us and all of our children are.

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 7 points 1 month ago

I feel like if someone managed to, reading it would be a stroke hazard

[–] mfed1122@discuss.tchncs.de 17 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Red Lobster has always been one of my most hated restaurants. A tasteless person's idea of good food.

[–] CharlieTheOctopus@hexbear.net 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Well, the cheddar biscuits are alright..

[–] mfed1122@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Fair. I feel like that's also a hallmark of such places, the "actually decent appetizer", lol

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 3 points 1 month ago

That's what they do. They spend time and effort on quality appetisers so there is still something decent on the menu, because they know people won't go in just for an appetiser, they'll still order a full meal.

US continues to be a deeply unserious country

[–] christian@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I mean let's just be honest this is a much better justification than anything we heard before.

[–] ClassIsOver@hexbear.net 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I like shrimp, and the concept of unlimited shrimp sounds fucking nauseating.

[–] PolarKraken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'd like to think this is a gross exaggeration by the guy, but then again the Brits and the French are trading harsh words in regards to fish (with the French apparently deploying their navy?)
