I feel like this community is always spitting out the most vile dreck imaginable under the "it's just a joke" excuse. Now they're literally upvoting the Babylon Bee.

i really dislike broccoli hair

I bet the office worker that wrote this never carried 30kg bars of Bitumen up 30m ladders. That was a fun between jobs I did for a little while back in the day.

The popular idea they have in their head of the communist and the reality I see outside are totally different. If anything this is them projecting themselves into the accusation. The railway maintenance union RMT is the most radical union in the UK and they had soviet flags out at some of their picket lines. The more physical the worker the more radical things tend to get in my experience.

[–] TheSpectreOfGay@hexbear.net 39 points 3 days ago (3 children)

office workers really be acting like fucking around with spreadsheets all day and contributing nothing of value to society is 'hard work'. it's so delusional lol

[–] Lenins_Dumbbell@lemmygrad.ml 35 points 3 days ago

I do this for my job and I make it a point to let all my prestigious college grad friends who do this know that we do nothing of value. We add nothing to society. We make spreadsheets and explain those to shareholders and C-suites who don't understand it anyway.

It's all just a grift all the way down

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 25 points 3 days ago

hard to maintain my will to live work

[–] Poutine@hexbear.net 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It's a skill that could be of value (there is value in resource management under communism, for example), but under capitalism, it is meaningless.

[–] TheSpectreOfGay@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago

im not saying office workers don't have skills, im saying their skills are totally wasted on meaningless business slop

[–] ChaosMaterialist@hexbear.net 41 points 3 days ago (2 children)

There is such angst over students among the elite, conservative, and reactionary.

Also judging from the comments here we all would probably like a job doing physical work. Why is physical labor bad to you Mr. Author and Mr. Poster? Why would a young communist think physical labor was bad? Shit how many people fantasize about running away and starting a farm?!

So much :projection: my eyes are burning in their sockets

[–] Dirt_Possum@hexbear.net 29 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Why is physical labor bad to you Mr. Author and Mr. Poster? Why would a young communist think physical labor was bad?

I think a big part of this is a generational stereotype thing, that the young people (millennial or younger) are the privileged ones, and that the youth these days are allergic to "real" work, the kind of hard work the boomers had to do... while being able to afford to buy a house and raise a family on a single income, which young people could do to if only they were willing to work hard for it and give up their avocado toast. It's totally ass backwards like everything else about this meme, but I don't think that one aspect of it is even a dig at communists per se, it's just boomer humor disparaging people younger than them and especially students. I'd bet most of the lemmitors upvoting that would actually balk at the implication that only boomers know about "real" work if that were the only thing the meme was about, but because it is also anti-communist, they're all for it.

So much :projection: my eyes are burning in their sockets

That's exactly it. It's not just the typical intentional misunderstanding of communism, it's a denial and reversal (projection) of who actually has the privilege when it comes to labor.

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 23 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The boomers that did the hard work died off leaving the ones who did it for like 2 years before sliding to better employment where they aren’t licking carcinogens to post about how real men die in the coal mines on ex dot com

[–] SchillMenaker@hexbear.net 20 points 3 days ago

One million perfect correct

[–] Simon_Shitewood@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Part of it is that physical labour fucking sucks under capitalism because it incentivises working long hours in dangerous conditions, so a lot of people end up crippled in one way or other before they can enjoy retirement.

[–] SeducingCamel@hexbear.net 2 points 1 hour ago

Yes that's the main problem in my eyes. I wouldn't mind it if it was reasonable but it seems like it almost always comes with 12 hour days

[–] Enjoyer_of_Games@hexbear.net 53 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Working class is when burly men in hard hats

Bourgeoisie is when fops with soy lattes

I understand this because of my frequent and very real interaction with the working class

[–] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 43 points 3 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Starbucks workers also aren't physical labourers despite having to stand for the entirety of their shifts and work the coffee machines, lift and carry produce, climb and clean. If you dye your hair you are NOT A LABOURER

[–] IAMgROOT@lemmy.wtf 2 points 3 days ago (3 children)

labor is a spectrum sure, starbucks baristas are laborers but are they as laborer as blacksmiths and farmers? absolutely not

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 24 points 3 days ago (1 children)

blacksmiths and farmers

Ironically both not laborers.

[–] IAMgROOT@lemmy.wtf 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

blacksmiths and farmers are definitely laborers

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 31 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Blacksmiths are on a spectrum as you said. Some work at factories, some are artisanal craftsman, some petty bourgeois.

Farmers definitely aren't labor, they are the guys who own and manage the farm and hire people to do the farm work. Maybe they do some work too but that's the case with other bourgeois too.

[–] IAMgROOT@lemmy.wtf -1 points 3 days ago (2 children)

farmer is more of an entire umbrella of work

farmhands are farmers the farm managers are farmers

[–] RedWizard@hexbear.net 1 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Farmers own the farm dingbat, their laborers are called farm hands.

[–] IAMgROOT@lemmy.wtf 0 points 7 hours ago

a "farmer" is someone who works at a farm

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 15 points 3 days ago

Usually the term is used for the farm owner.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Blacksmiths and farmers? Are you from the 17th century?

[–] IAMgROOT@lemmy.wtf 6 points 3 days ago
[–] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 10 points 3 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Yep, sorry like the imagined audience of this comment is the chud standin who thinks that the only communists are dyed haired baristas who don't know what 'work' is, because working hospitality is somehow a cakewalk?

[–] Dort_Owl@hexbear.net 37 points 3 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Remember you're not working class unless you're a 1900s factory worker

Office workers and uber drivers never get burnout because they're jobs are super easy/s

[–] peeonyou@hexbear.net 1 points 1 day ago

and you're not fully clean unless you're zest fully clean.

[–] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 45 points 3 days ago

if i ever unironically post a 5 year old babylon bee meme you have my permission and encouragement to euthanize me

Site tagline

Why haven’t you posted anything better? Classic .ML do a lot of complaining and interject moral superiority while doing nothing of substance. I’m out here breaking my back harvesting memes to bring back like slop for the pig trough. 4 count em FOUR group chats among different friend groups that share memes. Plus tertiary collection. I save AND post them. By the sweat of my brow I share a minor chuckle or quick exhale from the nose followed by a slight smile and head shake. This is what I do for you. Yet, this is how you repay me?

[–] RedWizard@hexbear.net 3 points 8 hours ago

This is incredible

[–] Diva@lemmy.ml 9 points 3 days ago

lmao i love it doggirl-lol

[–] KoboldKomrade@hexbear.net 38 points 3 days ago

My desk job has driven me up and down the wall 5 times over. Had some experience with a positive work environment that involves a decent amount of "light" manual labor. Basically lifting light loads, lots of walking, bending and crawling. Now looking to sneak into that profession because its so much more tolerable. Keeping it moderately vague because of dox.

Turns out I wasn't adverse to manual work. I'm adverse to doing manual work in the context of capitalism. The idea of doing the same work but without any of the community would depress me.

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 41 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Oh boy, what trenchant bon mot will they assail us with next?

Probably Communism no food for the eleventy billionth time

[–] context@hexbear.net 19 points 3 days ago

eleventy billion

zenz once for every person killed by communism no food

[–] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 20 points 3 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Um eqksqueeze me hon, did you perchance post that with AN IpHONE???

[–] Monk3brain3@hexbear.net 34 points 3 days ago

It's especially silly because a lot of people arrive to the conclusion that communism is an absolute necessity after being ground to dust by the machine. The people making these posts on the other hand can be lumped up under the treatlerite category

[–] Chana@hexbear.net 35 points 3 days ago

Actual boomer meme. Point and laugh at the poster.

[–] SootySootySoot@hexbear.net 29 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Communism is quite literally about the working class banding together to sort out the bourgeois class - who are literally defined by their lack of need to do any labor whatsoever.

Obviously, the meme is just inanity, but there are definitely some clever and funny critical observations to be made if you could first read like, 2-3 sentences about what your political opponents believe.

[–] Athena5898@hexbear.net 27 points 3 days ago

I'd love to be able to do labor! But I can't because captalism would rather me sit on my disabled ass then get accommodations.

[–] ConcreteHalloween@hexbear.net 27 points 3 days ago

My podiatrist had to make me custom insoles because of how fucked my feet have gotten from walking on concrete warehouse floors for ten years. They cost around $350 and weren't covered by insurance.

[–] Goferking0@ttrpg.network 8 points 3 days ago

Are they trying or wanting to beat the nazi bar connotations?

quick question is the person doing physical labor getting their fair share of the value they produce? If not wouldn't that lowkey be injustice?

[–] IAMgROOT@lemmy.wtf 12 points 3 days ago

the point of the community is that things dont mean anything there
