After reading this disgusting plan for a still living, suffering animal, I really hope someone manages to drag his corpse into open waters so nobody can get their hands on him. Let the whale's body decompose in the ocean, like it should, and not make it into fucking fuel.

It's such a horrifying thought. I shouldn't be surprised when a largely carnist society sees an animal as nothing more than a resource, but it's still pretty upsetting to read.

I hope the whale is able to decompose naturally too.

Oddly enough, the disel produced by proccessing dead animals in germany can't even be sold in germany.

What an ignominious end sadness-abysmal

This whale was on the news for several weeks. I was surprised at how much people were talking about it.

while it is apparently still a fuel resource germans don't usually eat whale so everybody can pretend to really care about animals for a bit there

Deeply disrespectful and evil

If someone put this in a novel they'd get laughed at for being too obvious

Sounds like a great application for dynamite. After its dead of course.

im-vegan but having the thing on life support, stranded, just to eventually die anyways feels much less humane to me than just having one big whale explosion while it's alive. This has been considered but apparently it's too risky but that kind of feels like a cop out to me

I don't think we should let a single setback ruin a perfectly sound plan like that.

I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:

I am laughing despite myself, but this was probably the driest and funniest way of reporting on that fucked up of a plan. Thanks for sharing!

They couldn't get a helicopter out there? I'm not an expert on whale rescue but it seems like the EU should have been able to get something together.

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 19 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

That was a decision by the officials to leave the whale beached despite volunteers organizing a rescue effort.

Whether the whale would survive, who knows but it was decided that if the whale can't make it back to the sea by itself, it's not worth helping it back into the water.

[–] SerialExperimentsGay@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago

They moved him off sandbanks several times, i think this is the 4th time he's been beached.
