France only stopped using the guillotine for capital punishment 50 years ago. I'm guessing there is some basement somewhere full of still maintained "prison equipment"

[–] Mubelotix@jlai.lu 60 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Just so everyone knows, it was faked. They took an image of a guillotine being moved to a museum and added protesters around it

[–] marcos@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There are 6 of them, and the yellow jackets are only relevant there. Before you pointed I didn't notice they are protesters.

I just assumed they were people working around moving and assembling the thing.

[–] Mubelotix@jlai.lu 6 points 23 hours ago

You are correct. The people were here, they just had no yellow vest. The yellow vest was the symbol of protesters

I'm so glad to be born the year this abomination was abolished in my country. Only fascists/populists wish the death penalty should be brought back in France.

Only fascists/populists wish the death penalty should be brought back in France.

Or, you know, the masses who want to give the fascists what they deserve. But keep playing nice with them, that worked last time, right? Right??

... and death rows in the world are full of billionnaires and corrupt politicians, Right??

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Who said this was for people death row?? The masses can use it for the billionaires themselves

Does it count if I've seen the Les Mis musical five or six times?

"Look at me im tino I love being bent over and fucked up the arse"

[–] tino@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"Look, I'm a badass anarchist hidden behind my screen using homophobic rhetoric to prove my point"

[–] Banana@sh.itjust.works -1 points 1 day ago

I never said being a bottom was negative. Being fucked up the arse is great, it's just weird when you're willingly letting your government do it.

Be glad the things you don’t see every day

Routine Maintenance. No one enjoys the blunt blade going over and over on the neck.

[–] Skyrmir@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I watched a guy test a bunch of blade designs. Trust me, the mess of a stuck blade can ruin an entire day of beheading.

[–] modus@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Agreed. The frustration is hardly worth the overtime. Especially when you're trying to free a wobbly, dull blade wedged between two vertebrae and a poorly-planed drop channel. The anxiety of the crowd is only satiated by the agony of the condemned.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Ah, yes. A welcome return! Plenty of scum today for the chopping block.

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 day ago

I'm impressed that they have kept it legal to possess a functional guillotine
