let's fucking gooooooo!!!
news
Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:
-
To learn about and discuss meaningful news, analysis and perspectives from around the world, with a focus on news outside the Anglosphere and beyond what is normally seen in corporate media (e.g. anti-imperialist, anti-Zionist, Marxist, Indigenous, LGBTQ, people of colour).
-
To encourage community members to contribute commentary and for others to thoughtfully engage with this material.
-
To support healthy and good faith discussion as comrades, sharpening our analytical skills and helping one another better understand geopolitics.
We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.
Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:
The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.
-
Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.
-
Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.
-
Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.
-
Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.
-
Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.
-
Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.
-
American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.
-
Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.
-
AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
Lol nice emote, I totally forgot about that guy.
Still can't believe someone was inherently based enough to just auto celebrate the fash getting ventilated
Who’s the guy in the emote?
he was in the front row in the audience at the Kirkening
Oh shit that’s awesome lmfao
News will say it was a technical failure and it just did that, lol
This US navy destroyer that was in involved in the incident off the Arabian Sea this week--
Yeah the one the front fell off.
yeah
Yeah that's not very typical. I'd like to make that point.
Well how was it untypical?
Well there's a lot of these ships going around attacking Iran all the time and very seldom anything like this happen. I just don't want people thinking our ships aren't safe.
Was this destroyer safe?
Well I was thinking about the other ships.
The ones that are safe?
Yeah the ones where the front doesn't fall off.
Well if this wasn't safe, why is it being deployed in battle?
I'm not saying it wasn't safe, it's just perhaps not quite as safe as the other ships.
Why?
Well some of them are built so the front doesn't fall off at all.
Wasn't this built so the front wouldn't fall off?
Well obviously not.
How do you know?
Well 'cause the front fell off and 20,000 tons of crude oil spilled into the sea caught fire. It's a bit of a giveaway. I just like to make the point that it is not normal.
Well what sort of standards are these destroyers built to?
Oh various rigorous, military engineering standards.
What sort of thing?
Well the front's not supposed to fall off for a start.
I hate how accurate this sounds
IN THE NAVY
YES YOU CAN SAIL THE 7 SEAS~

Apparently they got to film on the carrier because the admiral that gave them permission had no idea who they were. Simpler times I guess. Miss when you could just make up shit and noone could check
Can I do sciencetechnology?

Evergreen meme
But that's a given.
It sure is.
Wholesome!
Holesome
Arleigh Burke-turned-Charlie Kirk. To think they're scoring hits like this in the first days.

I think they've hit a couple of big beautiful boats so far.
My pet theory is that there seems to have been so little damage because these are still early stage probing attacks with cheap munitions to figure out how best to land a big warhead on them. I hope so anyway.
supposedly they're targeting comms arrays, which is some real "if a man can't see he can't fight" karate kid 3 shit.
or maybe that's just the easiest part to hit

love a strategy that you can say you're doing ahead of time and they can't do anything about it.
FWIW, @MarmiteLover123@hexbear.net points out that the photo is too fuzzy to confirm: https://hexbear.net/post/7816549/6969083
Also I was able to find a higher resolution version, in which the supposed fire is a perfect circle. The source also lied about the type of satellite imagery used. Make of that what you want.
US government said it's fake, which makes me more inclined to believe that it is real, but could be either way.

good for them.
Be a lot cooler if they destroyed a US Navy attacker imo
