Interesting coincidence.
World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Well. Now I don't use that arch, btw.
I don't see the problem. They should just reinstall the tourist destination through the AUR.
This augers ill ...
Famous natural arches are a product of erosion. Hence the occasional collapse is usual.
On the other hand, climate change does also accelerate the process, so it might've lasted a lot longer.
Yes, but that's not what the presented data tells us.
lol, even mother nature is like "fuck this corporate holiday!"
There isn't a notable holiday that corps won't try to cash in on in one way or another IMO. KFC for Xmas in Japan immediately springs to mind as just one of many.
Today (Shrove Tuesday) is Pancake Day in many countries. IHOP in the Philippines closes their branches that day due to it being a holiday there. Their manager is the most incompetent marketer in the world for not even attempting to make Pancake Day a thing in the Philippines.
I was going to joke about 313 day, but I think that actually needs sponsors to survive lol
True. But there’s a difference.
While hallmark certainly didn’t create the holiday, a large part of how we celebrate it today was shaped by hallmark and other companies using it to drum up business.
‘I hope 2026 is gonna be better’
2026:
i feel like this kind of event is extremely apropos for this cursed decade. The SCREAMING twenties. Because they sure ain't roaring.
Oh I like that as this decades tagline
i mean it's either that or the sobbing twenties i suppose...
I mean it sucks that physics and erosion do their thing but...
Human beings have the capability to reflect upon their actions and sound be able to learn from last experience.
That's more vexing to me.
Love is dead pack it up
That’s Amore!
N'amore*
“Nature has been overturned: what existed 30 years ago no longer exists
30 years? What existed only yesterday doesn't exist anymore! That's the rate of collapse: slowly, then suddenly
“Nature has been overturned: what existed 30 years ago no longer exists
Wait till these motherfuckers learn about erosion.
Is this an omen of some kind? Maybe I'm being microstitious.
An omen that we can't fight water.
When water rises, we cannot fight it, there will be mass migrations as coastal cities become unlivable with constant storm surges and rising sea levels in the coming decades.
Reminds me of New Hampshire's Old Man of the Mountain, a famous rock formation that looked like a man in profile, which was so identified with New Hampshire that they put it on their state quarter... and which collapsed within a couple of years of the quarter being released.
so long and... uh, thanks for all the catfish?
Guess I had a better valentines day than that arch
I loled
Noooo! And on Valentine’s Day too! That’s so sad!😭
Btw, kinda scary looking at the Google map photos and seeing recent ones with people underneath it😬
😱😱😱
On 25 January, after torrential rain brought by Cyclone Harry, a devastating landslide tore away an entire slope in the town of Niscemi, Sicily,
And it's still advancing, with no sign of stopping.
And, of course, they are turning this into a political case.
Of course it's political. If Caligula hadn't chickened out they wouldn't be in this mess today where water can just airdrop in and demolish the landscape at will. Is that water the sea? No, but conquering the sea would've sent a clear message to water in general.
And, of course, they are turning this into a political case.
Because climate change has accelerated the process, and because regressives deny climate change, it became political.
When you put it like that, how is it not inherently political?
Loven't.
Lovelorndomite sediments made out of ancient creatures that had sex finally had enough.
Another arch collapsed. Last one was a little over a year ago. It's weird that it's happened twice.
I had to double check that they weren't just recycling stories, but who would have thought that erosion and geology is still happening even as humans exist and oppose it!
It's not really weird. It's something that's going to happen at some point regardless. Like the article states, erosion made the arches, and it will eventually unmake them.
