Right after "People Falling Down And Suffering Serious Injuries: Oops! All slide Whistles Edition!"

[-] ameancow@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

If subscribing and paying for services actually guaranteed ad-free, useful and complete experiences, then yes I would gladly pay. When iTunes made buying songs for a dollar easy, I paid hundreds of dollars for them, because it gave me exactly what I wanted at a fair price.

Now, when you sign up for a service, you're still getting ads, you're still getting paywalls around the movies and shows you really want to watch, you're still getting your data mined and sold. You're still paying more than you would have paid for premium, ad-free cable TV back in the old days.

It's useless. I want to pay for good experiences and services, but they ain't offering it.

Don’t forget, this was back in the day of fat people hate and Reddit hosting child porn. Reddit administration was never great

Reddit in the earliest days was basically 4chan but less controlled and more spread-out. There were thousands of illegal and horrifyingly abusive subreddits. Every single time one got taken down, it was this massive, whinging drama show from thousands of chuds screaming about their "rights" and "censorship."

By the time admins came for the less overtly evil ones, like the weirdly prevalent communities dedicated to fantasizing about punching particular people in the face, reddit had very much become the WalMart of the internet. Not the cleanest or nicest place to visit, but it certainly had everything and was convenient if you needed a fix at odd hours.

I don't even remember Digg but I remember it seemed relatively short-lived in the early days of the explosion of forum sites. A lot of people were trying to strike gold with the next big thing as internet popularity was soaring. There are likely hundreds of other big sites like Digg that people used to frequent that have also since died in the mass-extinction events of the 2010's and beyond.

Owning an "upvote company" is literally the only reason on God's Earth that anyone could give seven shits about content and voting on reddit.

It may have had cultural impact back in 2016, but that was almost a decade ago and the world is different, reddit is different.

Now it's just bots arguing with bots and every post is a surreptitious paid ad for something. People haven't quite "move on" but they certainly don't give reddit communities the relevance they once had. People broadly roll their eyes at reddit. In the last couple offices I worked in, the people joked that you're "never allowed to share something on Teams if it came from reddit" and "reddit is a dirty secret, everyone knows we browse it, but it's shameful to admit it."

Sorry reddit, the cool factor has left the building a long, long time ago.

This should show everyone clearly, unambiguously, without a doubt that conservatives in America have zero idea what progressivism or leftism is about at all.

It's just words to them. They do NOT care. It's WWE wrestlemania. They want to paint their faces and get swept away in a stageplay and die as heartbroken as the hero if they don't succeed and make all their enemies pay.

We need to like, mass-spam the entire Midwest america with historical romance novels with bodice-ripping sex scenes. I think if more guys just got lost in that shit, we would have a lot less tension and pain in the world.

All I know is for 2 years I wore one and didn’t catch a damn cold.

I've cohabited with someone with a major immunity problem and had to take normal, established-before-covid guidelines for making sure I don't bring back a virus that would kill someone I care about. I wore a mask for months going out, washed my hands, avoided crowds. Never got sick.

So that was before covid. Imagine how it feels seeing the whole world be advised to do the same thing, and absolutely losing their collective mind about it, while millions of people died.

It will never make sense. I mean, logically I have studied psychology and have come to understand the mechanics of people's irrational, emotional reactions. What doesn't make sense is how we elected a clown that led our nation in the direction of chaos and followed his example.

THEN WHAT FUCKING WILL CHANGE ANYTHING

Because this is the only thing that gets people like you to even talk about this.

edit: I want to be clear that I don't care if it's rude or uncivil to talk to people about this like this, I will do it again and again and again and I support efforts to be annoying about it, because at this point it's all we have left to maybe, potentially, get enough people angry enough that someone, somewhere does something. Anything

You're all making your frowny faces and saying "This is counter-productive" and you're simply not getting it.

If through some magical means we were to learn that nuking Manhattan would somehow lower global temperatures, then we would need to do that, just up and vaporize 1.6 million people. It would STILL be the ethically superior action to take if it magically worked. Because in the next century billions of people may die.

If we learned that filling the Grand Canyon with concrete would get companies to stop producing carbon waste and get people to accept inconveniences like electric cars and paper straws without whinging like a wounded toddler, then yes, line up those cement mixers.

When it comes to the trolly problem, you're all not even looking at the right tracks if you're so upset about incivility or annoyances when it comes to climate activism. If anyone is left to do it, one day they will erect statues of these kids throwing soup at paintings and coloring rocks.

So the meme is in agreement that defacing Stonehenge as a protest was pointless?

It was as pointless as everything else, that's why they did it, it's screaming into the void to get attention.

There are ways to get attention for a cause without defacing one of the seven wonders of the world

Are there though? I'm old enough to remember this has gone on for decades without anyone doing anything of significance and now we're at the actual edge of global catastrophe and STILL people are like "hmn, those kids should be recycling." Bruh, you and so many people have no idea how many lives are going to be lost in the next century while every milquetoast liberal and conservative in the developed world roll their eyes and get pissed at slight annoyances like... checks notes colored corn starch on rocks you will never visit.

It's like trying to shake someone in a dream to get them to pay attention. And the more you scream and hit them, the more they look ahead like zombies.

They HAVE sprayed BP's factories and lots and machines, they have sabotaged equipment and chained themselves to machines and have caused material harm to companies like BP, but that doesn't get any fucking coverage because media doesn't want to encourage "violent activism" for fear of turning away viewers like YOU who are annoyed by such things.

The economy is doing great.

For the people who manage and control the economy.

I mean, everyone has been crying and whinging for years, decades even, that the USA needs to ramp up semiconductor fabrication in case shit goes south in Taiwan. We are finally getting some domestic production power and we're getting outraged by the traffic delays? America will sink itself because of our people's own addiction to comfort and complaining about any slight to that comfort.

There's a whole long LIST of things we can try long before settling on "first felon president."

  • First Woman President

  • First Openly Gay President

  • First Asian/Pacific Islander President

  • First Albino President

  • First Teenage President

  • First Werewolf President

  • First Teenage Werewolf President

  • First Robot President

  • First Robot Teenage Werewolf President

  • First Normal President

We could go on and on too.

Ah so they had human emotions and mental health struggles.

When someone says "I'm a drama magnet" they are the drama. When someone says "I attract psychos" they are the psycho. More likely than not this chud learned the term "Cluster B" and just pounds that button on anything that remotely makes him feel uncomfortable.

edit: one, single, lone grump read this and said "We should be able to call females Cluster B whenever we want!" and slammed the downvote button with one greasy finger. I don't know why I find that image so fuckin funny.
