Sometimes I really fucking wish I was that dumb, like what a fucking cool and interesting little reality these people live in.

[–] Rooty@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

Fantasy TTRPGs are more fun and less harmful.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 35 points 1 day ago

Eh, they're terrified of everything

[–] Wilco@lemmy.zip 20 points 1 day ago (2 children)

These people vote.
These people drive cars on the same road as you.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

And they reproduce. Boy HOWDY do they ever reproduce.

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is why we need a robust public transport system

[–] dvlsg@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

To be fair, I'm not sure I want to run into these people on the subway either.

[–] Inucune@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago

You take the subway, they take a bus. If the transportation system is large enough with enough stops, you'd never cross paths.

[–] P1k1e@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago (3 children)

These people have a lot of faith in the technology of the time. Not just weather machines but fukkin powerhouse freeze guns that can solidify somthing of this magnitude

[–] psycotica0@lemmy.ca 2 points 13 hours ago

Not to mention, given the labels on that one map, they seem to think Google satellite view is, like, a live camera feed from space or something they just overlay roads and borders and stuff onto?

And that it would mean anything at all for the map to just suddenly have a big snake in it unexpectedly...

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

While at the same time, completely willing to ignore actual experts and scientists who tell them they're wrong

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

Show me one scientist who denies we're waking Leviathan?

I'll wait...

[–] BananaIsABerry@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yet too little faith in technology that somehow we'd have to create an entire winter storm with the technology instead of just directly freezing the target.

If they could control it enough for that, they could undo the weather event.

[–] P1k1e@lemmy.world 4 points 22 hours ago

They probably figure making the storm.makes it easier to hide the truth whilst freezing the target means we can all see it's frozen corpse... Nevermind that it would float after being frozen anyhow

[–] TheBat@lemmy.world 55 points 1 day ago (1 children)

These people live in a very interesting reality.

[–] TwodogsFighting 35 points 1 day ago

'Reality' is doing a lot of heavy lifting there.

[–] bluegreenpurplepink@lemmy.world 85 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well, sharkfucker420, I think your time has come to be the hero this world needs.

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 96 points 1 day ago (2 children)
[–] CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That’s clearly a snake though, is your cousin snakefucker420 around?

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Its close enough. All of my alts follow the (blank)fucker420 formula and one of them has to cover this creature

[–] CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

As long as this creature is getting laid I think we are good

[–] RidderSport@feddit.org 7 points 1 day ago

Please wear protection though

[–] roserose56@lemmy.zip 7 points 23 hours ago

God bless the rest of the world.

[–] SmoothOperator@lemmy.world 44 points 1 day ago (6 children)

Is the Leviathan waking a good thing or a bad thing? It's a biblical thing right? They seem to be critical of the secret world government's strategy to freeze it to death with an artificial snow storm.

[–] markovs_gun@lemmy.world 28 points 1 day ago (1 children)

These guys are so far out from mainstream that you can't really know what the hell they're thinking. That said, Leviathan isn't actually an end times figure. It's a sea monster mentioned in the Old Testament in various points. The most famous passage is Psalm 74, a song of praise to God, which contains a reference to Him saying Leviathan, which appears to be a metaphor for taming the waters of the Earth

Yet God my King is from of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.

You divided the sea by your might; you broke the heads of the sea monsters[d] on the waters.

You crushed the heads of Leviathan; you gave him as food for the creatures of the wilderness.

You split open springs and brooks; you dried up ever-flowing streams.

Yours is the day, yours also the night; you have established the heavenly lights and the sun.

You have fixed all the boundaries of the earth; you have made summer and winter.

Some people believe that there is a reference to Leviathan in Revelation but it's not direct. Anyway, these people aren't following established Biblical lore, they're totally brain melted from 24/7 conspiracy content on Facebook and YouTube.

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

So god crushed his head, leviathan is slain already, no?

And – amateurs! Not every sea monster has a head or only one of it.

[–] BarbecueCowboy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 21 hours ago

Some think that this one specifically was pulled from an older myth about another mythological entity who had slain a seven headed serpent and just kind of forced to fit in however they could. Note that it refers to plural 'heads' and not singular 'head' on this one.

The hero who slays a seven headed snake story has some staying power and it keeps coming up throughout time.

It's probably leftovers shoehorned in from when the bible had adopted stories from a wider pantheon. Leviathan might have had a much bigger role somewhere at one point. May serve as a stand in for 'controlling the waters of the earth' and there's going to be a dozen biblical scholars saying Leviathan represents one of a dozen ancient countries around when it was written (maybe one of them is right, but boring).

For the actual verses though... There is a passage in Isaiah where God will some day slay Leviathan with his pretty cool sword and this is one of the things that marks the end of maybe the end times. So, waking might be one step closer to this whole deal being over with. There's also some passages in Job that kind of indicate that anything mankind tries to do to Leviathan isn't going to work because only God is powerful enough to control it (So, trying to freeze it isn't going to work).

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Also sometimes associated with the beast of the sea in revalations, which is the antichrist

[–] justsomeguy@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

I think they roll dice to figure that out. In general they're essentially playing a D&D campaign.

[–] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 day ago

If we're going off battlefield rules, it could be fun to shoot at.

[–] dream_weasel@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago

Probably Roko's Leviathan.

[–] affenlehrer@feddit.org 2 points 1 day ago

I think it's supposed to eat sinners. According to the bible it will be killed by God but not by freezing it.

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Those people who slept through science (i.e. discussions about geology) and social studies (including map reading) classes but rather waited for Saturday morning specials or kept awake at Sunday School.

[–] orenj@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 20 hours ago

Oh hey Lev, got any locusts?

[–] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 7 points 1 day ago

That's where South America reaches for Antarctica. Famously known for being off the coast of Virginia and warm.
