Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

President Donald Trump repeatedly referred to Greenland as “Iceland” during his speech at the World Economic Forum on Wednesday, even as he demanded that the U.S. be handed ownership of the territory. When the president initially raised Greenland, which he said he was originally “going to leave … out of the speech,” he referred to it correctly. He issued veiled threats to Denmark…

I can only imagine the bellowing ghostly laugh of Erik the Red and Leif Erikson as yet another fool falls victim to one of the best jokes in human history.

[–] SGGeorwell@lemmy.world 78 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Trump is a fucking dipshit. It’s humiliating.

[–] suigenerix@lemmy.world 27 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yep, it's only a matter of time before he'll be talking about "invading Austria where all those kangaroos and koalas live"

[–] thefluffiest@feddit.nl 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Well, with climate change that really is a matter of time. The koalas and kangaroos I mean

[–] DeltronZero@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 months ago

Historically speaking, it's actually the emus you gotta worry about.

[–] Mrselfdestruct25@lemmynsfw.com 7 points 2 months ago

Behold, the poster child of the master race!

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 58 points 2 months ago (2 children)

The entire past year I haven't gotten over the fact that this oaf is a living walking version of the USA polandball caricature that can't get the name of any country right.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago (1 children)

He has a habit of using words from other conversations or things he has recently heard. It could be a sign that Iceland is the next country in his sights after greenland

[–] normanwall@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago (1 children)

My guess is someone had to explain that Greenland is covered in a lot of ice

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 months ago

Maybe someone told him it was all white and inadvertently made it appealing to him.

[–] MeThisGuy@feddit.nl 4 points 2 months ago

love the word oaf

[–] Veedem@lemmy.world 56 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Shortly after the speech, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was already on the defense. In a post on X, she quoted News Nation reporter Libbey Dean, who pointed out that Trump mixed up the two names.

“No he didn’t, Libby[sic]. His written remarks referred to Greenland as a ‘piece of ice’ because that’s what it is. You’re the only one mixing anything up here,” Leavitt wrote, attaching a screenshot of a Google result for Greenland showing a large chunk of ice floating in the ocean.

It’s amazing how willingly they lie when the OBVIOUS TRUTH is right in front of our eyes.

They know what they're doing: 2+2=5.

It's fucking scary how effective it is on people!

Republicans can stop this shit at any time. Not even all of them, or even a majority of them. A handful of them, like 3 in the Senate and 3 in the House could end this shit in like, a week or two.

On edit: Probably more like a month or two. Trump doesn't even have Nixon's decency.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Trump doesn’t even have Nixon’s decency

A low bar

[–] bananabread@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 months ago

Just wanted again to congratulate all Americans on your President. You may not have voted for him, you may not agree with him on anything but he does represent your entire country and the intellectual level of US culture. So yeah.. congrats!

[–] kadu@scribe.disroot.org 21 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

Intellectually, aesthetically, and ethically. He is the quintessential United States citizen, Trump is what comes out of a distillation apparatus if you boil a random selection of Americans.

They keep repeating how baffled they are that he got elected twice... That's like being surprised the reflection on the mirror looks like you.

[–] Zink@programming.dev 9 points 2 months ago

It's frustrating how correct you are.

Our culture is very sick, and looking at Trump as a distilled essence of that culture is pretty dang accurate.

I think my mental state isn't really that of surprise, but still being baffled baffled at how stupid we can really be.

Don't forget that tens of millions of my neighbors voted for him THREE times.

[–] SippyCup@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 months ago

I was certain he'd get 8 years the night Hillary won the Iowa caucus. I figured then that the only way we'd be rid of him is if he died in office.

So fingers crossed. I'm not sure how much worse Eyeliner Couchfucker can be, but the ride isn't over yet.

What a joke we are.

[–] 87Six@lemmy.zip 12 points 2 months ago (2 children)

People disagreeing with you are still in denial about how mind-numbingly stupid americans are

[–] 87Six@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

To keep up the rant: people in my country, Romania, are pretty fucking dumb as well, but we elected the pro-EU, democratic, modern candidate as opposed to the crazy conservative russofile americanofile moron that got 2nd place. (2nd was just spotted cutting a greenland cake with the american flag on it)

A lot of Romanians are bloody stupid too, but still not stupid enough to elect that conservative cunt.

Americans DID elect the conservative cunt.

Meddlesome too!

[–] FenderStratocaster@lemmy.world 22 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I watched the video and I could not help but laugh. The absolute drivel pouring from his mouth was embarrassing. What human being watched that and thought, "He nailed it."?

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Apparently my in-laws. They didn’t want to vote for Kamala because, and I almost quote, “If missiles need to be fired, she won’t do it and instead will give more money to the poor.”

I just can’t anymore. Thankfully the apple (my husband) fell faaar from the tree.

[–] A_norny_mousse@feddit.org 8 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Apparently my in-laws.

Wild guess: they're not in the habit of watching video or reading transcript of his speeches, more than a few seconds (esp. not from Davos)?

That's what always gets me about people who attend his rallies: listen to him rant incoherently for, idk, 45 minutes, then turn around and vote for him?

[–] FenderStratocaster@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

If missiles need to be fired Trump would be on a golf course with French fry fingers.

[–] Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago

Sycophants.

[–] Remember_the_tooth@lemmy.world 19 points 2 months ago

What if they just take him to Amundsen-Scott base, show him part of "The Thing" and then set off some fireworks as they evacuate him. After that we'll all just pretend like Greenland/Iceland/Place with snow is quarantined.

[–] atropa@piefed.social 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

So its iceland ,not greenland ? ,. Next will be Belgium, land of fries ,chocolate and best beer

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] atropa@piefed.social 2 points 2 months ago

Dont tell them about the waffles ,its a secret

[–] frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io 10 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Yes, because that's the next target. You think he's done extorting people? Even if this was a dumbass mistake, the regime will spin this to needing Iceland too.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

That's too small on a map. He wants Canada next. He wants big map.

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago

Let’s give him a custom projection then. He likes projection acter all.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago

Can someone just give him some kind of VR video game and tell him he's in the control room of a real invasion?

I reckon he's going to try and take iceland now

[–] santa@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Yep. He needs his keys taken away and placed in a home. But instead, 1/3 of our population gave him the #1 military in the world and all the nukes. Then 1/3 of the population was too lazy to NOT vote for the non-tyrannical choice. What the fuck did we do, America?!

Republicans would have impeached or 25th amendmented Biden a couple of dozen times by now but they are absolutely terrified into submission by the old demented orange rapist mobster.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 months ago

I think they enjoy it.

[–] UnspecificGravity@piefed.social 4 points 2 months ago

I'm fairly certain he has actually been mixing them up this whole time and has meant to be claiming Iceland this entire time. A lot of his statements actually make a lot more sense if you substitute Iceland for Greenland.

[–] MuskyMelon@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Island has prepared for the Flying V for 2 decades!
