You want "Spiritual Warfare? Have it your way A Japanese stone statue of Fudo Myo-o, an incarnation of the Buddha in a form of righteous fury, holding a sword and rope and surrounded by flames

To have true love and kindness like taught by the Buddha or Jesus means to have righteous indignation propelling you to the defense of the vulnerable. These so-called 'Christians' don't understand actual compassion.

A drawn depiction of the guardian form of the Buddha Mahakala, with six arms holding various implements and weapons, surrounded by flames and other buddhas

Been thinking for a while whenever the subject of religion comes up that we need to take 2 separate approaches when taking on reactionaries using religion

Atheist comrades should continue as is but try extra hard to avoid friendly fire on religious comrades

Religious comrades meanwhile should be going fire and brimstone on these nazi monsters

I can see it both ways, on the one hand many of our enemies just wield religion as a weapon without actually believing in anything other than money and on the other they're also blasphemous genocidal demons who belong in hell

Taking 2 different seemingly opposite paths to attack our enemies from both angles only to end up in the same place, is that not dialectical?

[–] tocopherol@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Rhetoric won't convince many full-on fascists anymore but there are plenty of people that are generally ignorant of everything still, and many people that at least call themselves Christian in the west. I do believe hammering on the immoral and anti-Christian aspect of ICE raids, fascism, and capitalism in general can maybe do some good in those circles. My grandma is a church-going Christian from a military family generally conservative but talks about how Jesus would say basically all of the conservative politicians and rich people today are going to hell.

[–] TreadOnMe@hexbear.net 2 points 14 hours ago

I just harp on how most modern Christians pretend to worship God but instead worship at the foot of Mammon. And I am a pretty strident atheist, but I meet people where they are at.

I hate their avatar. Vikings and crusaders are two separate things, you can't just combine them.

Also, horned helmets are 19th century romantic bullshit. You only need to think about it for half a second to realise why nobody would want to wear a horned helmet in actual combat.

[–] Euergetes@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

knights wore horned helmets historically (also samurai), they don't get in the way on horseback so much

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

They were usually made from flimsy materials like paper mache though so they fell off easily when struck, not taking their heads with it. A lot of helmets with more solid decorations like ancient Itallic helmets for example had the decorations detachable.

Imagine being some groyper who gets off on this shit showing up to an actual Christian church and being like "wtf why are you doing a coat drive for the homeless, those people are d*generate?!"

[–] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Christianity is when you're Darth Vader

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

You jest but I made this before that the selling point for both boomers and zoomers is that Christianity turns you into an epic Sith lord!

Ironically, adult converts convert TO sin. Somehow my non-practicing Catholic ass is offended they’re using part of my culture as part of their supervillain cosplay.

They just wanna larp WH40k in real life and think the Catholic Church is the closest thing to the Imperium

[–] TreadOnMe@hexbear.net 1 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

Tbf the Catholic Church is the closest thing to a modern equivalent of the Imperium, being one of the largest and most strident holdout institutions to preach serfdom (outside of course, the UK and the US themselves, which is what the whole franchise was originally a parody of).

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 12 points 1 day ago

It feels like these mfs are turning into feral humans.

Like wanting to randomly assault people, especially an “other” they consider smaller and weaker than them? So conservative they’re returning to monke.

[–] SoyViking@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I've heard from Catholic circles that it is a thing that reactionaries join the church hoping to become part of a trad anti-woke community, only to be very disappointed once they find out why the people in the congregation are actually there.

[–] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Sort of reminds me of the disconnect between some Westerners who get really into Zen Buddhism or whatever vs. Buddhism as its generally practiced in Asia

"wtf this is just religion" oooaaaaaaauhhh

[–] TrashGoblin@hexbear.net 18 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I actually enjoy Gregorian chant, and am deeply disturbed that 90% of the Gregorian chant videos on that site are like this. It's a ton of work do dig up videos that are academic or church recordings and not this.

[–] RoabeArt@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I feel the same about classical music but I have to avoid the comments because of so much "deus vult"/"return to tradition" reactionary coded shit with hundreds to thousands of likes.

[–] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago

You see, back in like 2009 you had to go to viking metal music videos for those sorts of comments. Though they used to be more Odin vult back then

[–] Hermes@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

I found a nice version of Dies Irae a while ago, but listening to chants is one of the few types of music that is actually too cringe for me.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 18 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I miss reddit atheists. So much better than this

[–] WhatDoYouMeanPodcast@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Like Ellen, perhaps they served an ecological niche before getting hunted to extinction

[–] laziestflagellant@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The discourse environment has changed.

In the past edgy atheists were engaging with the mask christofascism was wearing, that's why they were able to dunk on creationism and the inanity of some biblical stories. Nowadays no one talks about creationism and talking about warfare in the name of god and dashing babies against the rocks just gets one million Asmonmolds going "Based 🤪"

[–] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I think someone smarter than me could probably say something poignant about how edgy teens went from listening to church burning metal music to listening to church music

[–] BeanisBrain@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago

If you are an edgy atheist in your teens, you grow up to believe either that the workers must seize the means of production or that you can determine someone's intelligence by measuring their skull.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago (9 children)

Good news! I was just talking to my buddy and we're gonna jam and record some black metal today cause its snowing out and we feel like it. It's gonna be grim and frostbitten in a way that only a couple of crust punks who are now into industrial and noise music and dont care much about black metal can achieve. Its gonna be mid tempo and no tremolo picking.

"What are you up to honey?"

"We're walking to Jerusalem with full armour on, mom."

"oh ok sweetie, do you want take some lunchables for your little adventure?"

"...."

"...... yes please"

the only viking song i want to hear is about Spam

[–] WhatDoYouMeanPodcast@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I worry about being in my own echo chamber. I get some that are like "You're Studying in a Library in Oxford" and "Nintendo Underwater Music to Relax to"

Am I just as cringe? Is it mere point of view that separates me from the person listening to the spiritual warfare OST?

[–] BeanisBrain@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago

Well, the ones you get aren't centered around fantasies of killing Muslims, so no

i turned off my watch history on the YouTubes a few years ago, or maybe it was just a year ago. anyway, i get recommends for sessions in the right panel but it seems to be entirely based on whatever i'm looking at right then.

when i login to youtube, i get this giant empty panel that says

Your watch history is off
You can change your setting at any time to get the latest videos tailored to you. Learn more

here's a screen shot

i'm sure it's supposed to be scary and induce me to change it back to default, but i dig it. approximates an about:blank homepage, but i have my little subscriptions to the side which i don't really curate, and some lists below.

and it's honestly been preferable. i generally open YT with something in mind and there's nothing else there to invite my attention. the suggested panel only populates once i am watching something, and is pretty much just a "if you like what you are seeing right now, here's some other stuff like it" which is fine and then like every 3rd recommendation is some obviously promoted content that has nothing to do with me. "is your hot dog topping of choice WOKE? [43:02]"

the point being, the more steps i take to de-algo my presence online, the less relevant the pitches are for my attention, and generally the less intrusive it all feels. i'm sure i'm still being tracked, but now i spend zero seconds wondering if what i'm being presented is about my broad media consumption choices.

i've been introduced to several bands i like and even some socialist creators by whatever youtube is doing. shrug-outta-hecks
