Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

> Claims to be the land of Free Speech and the First Amendment.

> Can't make jokes about assassinating the US President.

[–] Mycatiskai@lemmy.ca 26 points 3 months ago (1 children)

They may have also meant using the 25th amendment to remove the president like their legal system allows for if Congress and the Senate weren't completely bought by the fascist billionaire class that owns the presidency as well.

[–] Berengaria_of_Navarre@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

That's not going to happen.

[–] GalacticSushi@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 3 months ago (6 children)

JD would love it though. Guy cannot wait to get promoted and gets a lil pep in his step every time Trump has yet another mystery hospital visit. Literally the only upside of Trump making it through his full term is that JD wouldn't get the satisfaction of being president.

it's funny, we know what you're talking about. We can't say what your talking about as that may involve a meeting with the SS if you are american.

[–] supernight52@lemmy.world 53 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Funny thing is, you could mean Schutzstaffel, or Secret Service. No way to know in modern America.

The American Schutzstaffel, or ASS.

[–] cheesybuddha@lemmy.world 11 points 3 months ago

That's illegal!

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago

A mortar, you say?

Rather than a front page obit wouldn't it be great if Congress and Senate just did their job and legally removed him.

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 21 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I concur. The fact that his death seems like the only way we will be rid of him is a bigger problem than trump.

What about the next person who does all this. Like Vance ?

[–] Lutoures@lemmy.world 8 points 3 months ago (4 children)

Vance does not have the cult leader credentials. If he pulled a "Let's take Greenland" out of his ass, he wouldn't have the same spell to keep 30% of approval.

That's why many authoritarian regimes fall after the death of the charismatic leader.

And yes, the root cause of Trump appearing in the political scene go beyond himself and point towards structural problems of US society. But now he has this power, it's a fact that his death will cause a great loss to the political power of the MAGA movement, and it'll be very hard for any successor to keep this coalition in power, specially considering they're already fighting among themselves.

[–] NewSocialWhoDis@lemmy.zip 8 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Congress was envisioned to jealously guard their own power. They have been eager to abdicate their power and responsibility to the Executive to avoid political fallout (so that they can stay in office capitalizing off the position) for decades before Trump was on the scene.

The Supreme Court has absolutely no legal oversight, and even publication of their corruption has not moved them to impose any code of ethics on themselves.

The two parties both conspire to deliver us to the same monied interests, just with different flavors of icing on top.

Trump is the culmination of the rot in the system, he is not the source of it. There is no realistic way for the system to go on, even if Trump keels over tomorrow. Regardless of if Vance can command the cult when Trump dies, the system must be greatly reformed/ overhauled.

It's nice to see that the "in minecraft" meme has evolved to not even mentioning what to do at all, that we all just know fairly well anyway.

[–] DylanMc6@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 3 months ago (3 children)

It's NOT illegal to say "with a mortar launcher' because it's definitely an incomplete sentence.

Someone did try, but he missed, ensuring his win unfortunately...

[–] RaoulDuke85@piefed.social 11 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I seriously doubt it was an actual attempt. Funny how fast his ear healed.

[–] Captainvaqina@sh.itjust.works 14 points 3 months ago (2 children)

It's well known that SS protocol during an active shooter situation is to allow the presumed target to rise above all the bodies protecting him, while making a perfectly timed fist raised gesture directly to the camera that happened to snap the perfect shot of the ketchup packet bursting.

Duh.

A friend of mine says it proves JFK wasn't a CIA conspiracy, bcs if it was...what about now?

[–] agent_nycto@lemmy.world 18 points 3 months ago

Because he's the type of guy the CIA wanted in charge and JFK wasn't.

[–] Draegur@lemmy.zip 14 points 3 months ago

I agree.

The front page of every newspaper in the country has never so desperately needed an obituary on it.

Now I know what you might be thinking: never? What about that one time in the 1940s? Not even then, because even if that fucker LIVED he was on the cusp of capture. He was no longer a threat even before his obituary showed up

This time I have no faith or hope that the threat may actually be nullified at all otherwise.

It's NOT illegal to form an alternative government of the United States as a micronation with a distinct name, flag, anthem and coat of arms and such (and you can still pay taxes to the current US government and call that "aid"). Forming a micronation is NOT the same as being a sovereign citizen.

[–] morphballganon@mtgzone.com 11 points 3 months ago (2 children)

There are a few hundred "its"

[–] ramenshaman@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I think we can all narrow it down in this case.

To anyone reading this: Russian, Chinese, (even American) bots and agitators are astroturfing all over social media to get America to spin out into more violence. It's been well documented for almost a decade now. Please think about "who" (or what) is posting all these calls to violence.

Defending oneself from being attacked is different than actively committing violence unprovoked. Please just think about this. Having said all that, every American should still arm themselves and know how to use it.

[–] zea_64@lemmy.blahaj.zone 26 points 3 months ago (1 children)

State violence is still violence, so self defense still applies.

You don't consider the provocation to be real? What part of being shot in the face could be misinterpreted?

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 10 points 3 months ago

If there's no legal method to oppose all the unlawful shit the administration is doing violence is all that's left. Democrats need to get off their asses and start doing something or shit is going to hit the fan. It's not like any of Trump's goons have a problem being violent or killing people.

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Well the rest of the world wanted the us population to learn from the 2016-2020 idiots first term, but instead they said "Fuck you, cunts. Lol" and then the majority of them either voted for that thing, or enabled it by not voting or protest voting. So that option is off the table.

Trying to appease the orange paedo does fuck all because he's basically a schoolyard bully. Give him an inch and he'll then rape your daughter then blame you for doing it. So the appeasement option is off the table.

There's absolutely no chance any fucker over there has the spine to bring him to justice. So that option is off the table.

The fact is the obese imbecile is so demented and broken that nothing will work.
When something is broken you either fix it, which is impossible. Or get rid of it...which is where we are now.
