Are they the police?
Would never upload picture to American big tech service and im surprised people think thats something they agree to. I guess the addition is too strong, to these shitty services.
Privacy has become a very important issue in modern society, with companies and governments constantly abusing their power, more and more people are waking up to the importance of digital privacy.
In this community everyone is welcome to post links and discuss topics related to privacy.
much thanks to @gary_host_laptop for the logo design :)

Don't use this shit
Asswipe Zuckerberg treats people like bots and bots like kings. Screw him.
As a sane person I never joined Facebook until recently. At least I tried to. Got rejected for no reason- it said I violated their authenticity requirements or some bullshit. Nonsense. I looked it up and it's common - if they can't farm enough data off you to sell they don't want you. Couldn't care less, but Zuckerberg is a human cancer.
Use the face of Zuckerberg
Delete Facebook and problem solved. Here, where I live, we have websites for marketplace and website for concerts.
Just don't use Fakebook
tbf some developing countries still use facebook daily, if youre from the west its easy to say to just log out and delete your account, but if youre from one of those countries its just hard to cut that out you know. but yeah fuck facebook
I only use for marketplace as well. I've never submitted a picture of myself either, about the only person remaining in the country it appears. I felt weird about it for a while after absolutely everyone else did, now I feel vindicated.
The day they demand facial recognition is the day I quit using it, losing access to used goods be damned.
All I see on Facebook is my family slowly being radicalised into nazi beliefs, fck Zuckerberg and fck big tech!
Is there still real people there? I thought Facebook was a bankrupt platform filled bot profile keeping the chaos an revenue on?
Yes, But the marketplace is actually useful.
Upload verification video of drinking verification can
Last time I used facebook they required me to send in a legal ID after a couple months of being registered, which locked me out of my oculus quest 2 headset back when they required facebook accounts and weren't called meta.
"they required you"
Have you never thought that you can actually NOT do these things?
I mean, sure, maybe you had a good reason and you felt it was fine. But I wonder how many people just do what the screen tells them without realizing they can actually say no and be ok with the consequences.
It's been like that for quite a while. I remember deleting all big-tech accounts in 2019, and shortly after, Facebook started requiring login for full public page access. Therefore I created a burner account using a 'this person does not exist' picture, which provided me short-lived access after manual review. For account recovery, I was required to supply additional selfies (or even video-selfies?), but at that point I gave up.
One wit responded to such requests for ID by sending in a picture of an id with pharoh ramsey's mummy's picture, birthdate thousands bc.
I never agreed to give them my personal information. My emails forced me to, locking me out of accounts I needed to access.
I now found alternative email that doesn't need a phone number or linked other email. I am quitting every site that tried to force me to link my phone number, real name, likeness, id, address, anything like that, without a valid reason.
Amazon just demanded I verify my account again, same ip, same account I've used for years. Verifying under the email I abandoned for forcing my phone verification periodically, that would lock me out of my accounts if I lost my phone or it's service. Trying to make good on my threats to quit them too.
THIS!
I tried this to get an account. This was back in 2021. My account was deleted immediately. Probably a mixture of name and face. Maybe. But F that.
Why use Facebook at all.
Marketplace has killed most other local trading stuff sites. Craigslist is still limping along, but has far less available at higher prices than FBMP. I’m happy to hear of viable alternatives, especially for used vehicles, tools and equipment. I’ve saved a lot of money on my business and hobbies that way, but would leave in a heartbeat if there’s a real competitor.
I only want to use it for facebook marketplace
I deleted my facebook account in 2022 and have essentially not been contacted by friends since, so there's that
:(
Same happen to me and I realized that where not my friends! The question someone asked me then, was how many of them would remember your birthday?
Phone numbers + messaging apps is good way to stay connected.
To me, I dont care if my friends remember my birthday. I care if they are genuine friends and I have good conversations and laughs around them.
Someone remembering your birthday is just them putting a reminder in the calendar. Doesnt mean much, not to me at least.
So you have an actual human connection to these people? Friends could have a laugh over forgetting someones birthday, because its built on a real connection that doesnt go away over missing the small things.
It is addiction just like any other. I felt like I can't quit it, I feel like I will lose connection with the friends and family that is still using it. That it keeps me informed and other BS.
After deleting it on 2nd try (after navigating the maze to delete, they have 30 days to change mind, going I won't be able restaurant and will log in and I did first time) I realized that I haven't lost anything of value and the people that I still master I have other ways to contact.
It was just an illusion.
Through no fault of my own, the people I talk to (family) are tied to the FB ecosystem...and they are very resilient as to leaving it.
2026 will have to be the year of "please, for the love of all that is holy, can we switch to Signal"
Here's a word of advice: do not use that sack of shit company for anything. Always use decentralized alternatives wherever possible
When the entire country (not USA or EU) uses Instagram and WhatsApp for communication, your hand is forced to use it too.
I signed up for friendica, after 2 decades of having never used facebook.
It's blank, and I don't know what I'm supposed to do.
I can't comment on what the facebook experience is, but I imagine they don't just dump you onto a blank white page, with zero explaination.
Note that I am NOT defending or endorsing facebook. I'm just saying the decentralized services have work to do before they can fully be reccomended.
I also recently signed up for pixelfed. It took 3 days to login the first time. And I'm still not sure what the point of collections is. But I did upload 4 pictures.
Have been for a while. Decided to try to make a fake Facebook account mid-laat year to use marketplace since it's the dominant platform in my area. As soon as I saw this I just closed the browser tab.
I had an account but deleted it years ago, during covid my kids school put a lot of information on their Facebook account so I tried making a new account. Facebook told me there wasn't enough proof I was real, so I made a fake account with a super common name, they were fine with that. So now I have a Facebook account that I occasionally use to repost sports articles,I have zero interest in sports but my guy seems to like them.
Other me wants his own social media accounts as well.
Did you sign up for the failed you and generic other you accounts from the same electronic device, the same IP? They should be able to tell it's the same person that is pretty weird.
I really need a car and to sell some shit I'm not using for money, that site is so hostile I said fuck it, facebook market place isn't worth it. whose got a worth while alternative?
In the UK, auto-trader is used to sell used cars. I guess eBay or Gumtree (if it still exists) to sell stuff?
Craigslist still has people on it, if you learn how to filter out the scammers.
Facebook has new users?
