Please don't mention Reddit here. Some of us came here to get away and stop hearing about that platform.

I used to love using image generation whenever I had a weird idea or wanted to see something, but after this place educated me on where the training data comes from and what those datacenters burn through, I stopped opening the app and writing prompts. Now I just make the image in my own head.

Recently I found out I have the ability to use a form of Image Gen internally for free. I'd generated so many AI images that I can almost entirely predict what the model would've spat out anyway.

For example, I was walking past a coffee shop and saw this orange cat sitting in the window with a tiny croissant next to it. Old me would've opened the app and asked it to make "a cinematic photo of a sleepy orange cat guarding a croissant in a cozy Parisian café," but then I realized it wasn't worth the water and just generated it in my head.

It gave me something like: warm morning light, shallow depth of field, tiny paws, slightly surreal but still realistic. No glossy plastic skin, no sixth toe, and it didn't scrape a single artist to do it. Then I imagined the cat wearing a little beret because obviously the model would've done that.

I just thought that was a pretty cool discovery I've made. Interested to see if anyone else has this ability.

LLM technology has existed for decades. It's only recently that it started being hyped by AI bros.

123 + 456 = 123456 Or translated to decimal 3 + 3 = 6

Which makes it all the more disturbing that he has turned to slopmachines.

I suggest you read up on evidence before calling someone stupid for being cautious. There are studies that prove that open source developers were measured 20% slower when coding with LLMs even though they felt 1.5-2x faster. And we are talking about security sensitive software used by millions of people not 'small specialized scoped tasks' like you are in your comment. By the way, there is a huge environmental impact that is being caused by AI bros / big corpos pushing this endless slop onto us. There are protests going on because datacenters are literally poisoning the drinking water, pushing the electricity costs onto the community rather than supplying their own stuff, while adding a handful of jobs to the local economy. Educate yourself, the condescending comment doesnt help any one when the facts arent on your side.

I looked at the rsync commit log and basically every commit since March says "tridge and claude committed." Andrew Tridgell, the guy who literally invented rsync in 1996. Now hes using a chatbot to write the code and proudly displaying its name right there in the commit.

And before anyone goes "calm down its just a typo fix" no. The recent stuff is the security fixes for 3.4.3. The symlink race CVEs.. You know, the exact part where you want an actual human who understands what hes doing, not a machine that spits out code that looks correct but has correctness errors.

Do you get how insane this is? Rsync is the thing holding up basically every backup system on earth. Your NAS uses it. Distro mirrors use it. The server with you grandmas photos uses it. And now the plan is to let a token predictor that can't even count the amount of letter R's in "strawberry" write code for it.

"But the tests pass." The tests pass because the AI probably wrote the tests too you walnut. Its a loop of confident nonsense thats grading its own homework, and the first time it hits an edge case nobody fed it its gonna silently corrupt something and noone notices till the backups are already poisoned.

I'm pinning v3.4.1 and not updating again. If you defend this, dont say nobody warned you when the data loss posts start appearing.

I didn't think that we would be going into the death camp stage this quickly.

AI is destroying the environment, and it's completely ruining social interaction, just go outside and talk to someone instead It's not comparable to video games at all

You are addicted to this crap, and need to stop, NOW. These characters aren't real and are dangerous for your mental health

If you asked Claude to build you a house it would build you the most beautiful house, and then you’d go inside and you’d be like, “Claude there’s no bathrooms.” And Claude would say, “There were no bathrooms before either, so it’s actually a pre-existing issue”
