A person was shot by a federal law enforcement officer in Minneapolis on Wednesday evening after resisting arrest and “violently assaulting” an officer, the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement, as the city is still reeling in the aftermath of last week’s fatal shooting of Renee Good by an ICE agent.

“I urge anyone that is at the scene to leave immediately,” Police Chief Brian O’Hara said, calling the gathering an “unlawful assembly.”

Fuck right off. The proud boys can gather in public and yell slurs and wave hate symbols that are banned in many countries, but we can’t even protest in public because there’s thugs killing innocent people?

[–] Zink@programming.dev 1 points 19 hours ago

You have to love it when people whose frickin' job is the law just stand there and say "unlawful" followed by a word from the bill of rights.

I mean, we are way past that, but still fuck this guy.

Don't worry, he'll be sued for every penny he's worth. Hopefully he dies bankrupt and alone.

[–] frog_brawler@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I need a headline stating that ICE was shot by members of the community.

[–] W3dd1e@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The problem is that’s what they want. They wear mask because they claim people are harassing agents at home. We all know that’s bullshit, but I suspect shooting ICE is an exactly what they are hoping for.

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 12 points 1 day ago

They don't need someone shooting ICE to do whatever they want though, they're already doing it.

[–] LostGhost@piefed.social 18 points 1 day ago

Frey said. “We cannot be at a place right now in America where we have two governmental entities that are literally fighting one another.”

Really, the state and city government are not fighting anyone. They are complaining to a federal government who does not give a shit about them or the people they represent. If they were actually fighting the feds we would see police siding with the people, power cut off to ICE facilities, and local arrests of federal agents who are assulting people. What they are doing is loudly complaining while doing nothing to protect people who are rightfully defending themselves and their neighbors.

[–] TommySoda@lemmy.world 166 points 1 day ago (4 children)

I don't mean to sound divisive, but it really seems like only one of these groups is consistently doing the shooting.

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 119 points 1 day ago

And then lying about why.

[–] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 82 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"A person was shot". Gotta twist things into the passive voice when performing state stenography.

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 22 points 1 day ago

Complicit media. Take note. Remember authors and editors.

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 day ago

Yeah. That needs to change.

[–] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 1 points 1 day ago

Hm. Maybe something should change.

[–] Shirasho@lemmings.world 131 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Just a friendly reminder that resisting arrest is not a reason to arrest somebody. That charge comes second, not first, and if that is the first charge then the police deserve any and all harm that befall them.

Citizens should legally be able to defend themselves with violence if they are being arrested or assaulted for resisting arrest.

While I appreciate this. It is accurate in what the law says. It's not really helpful beyond a point.

I think Americans need to quickly realize that their "rights" have been demoted down to the average black person. (I'd say before the civil rights movement. But really I don't think that's too much different given recent history).

The same lies and tactics used for decades will be used and justified on all of us now. And it will not stop there. That is just the first bar.

The same tactics and lack of due process is already escalating to the degree of how Israel treats Palestinians in the west bank (not that bad yet obviously). But there is a reason ICE is literally being trained by that genocidal state.

This is what we will experience. Fascism is just Imperialism turned inward.

So, while it is good to "know your rights" as it may for a time or a certain situation be helpful as a tactic. That is just quickly not making any difference anymore.

I really think we need more focus on forming forms of community resistance. "Your rights" are not going to save you. You need numbers and the pressure of your community that has your back. This is the time to get to know your neighbors and the people forming resistance in your community. That is where we are. The law, state, and your "rights" matter less each day.

The day is coming when they will treat some chosen Blue city like Gaza, and burn it to the ground. They'll think it will send a message, but as usual, these Dumb Apes will send the wrong message.

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 day ago

Sadly, it won't be the first time the US dropped bombs on its own citizens.

Gotta love how CNN just parrots whatever DHS says happens because they're too lazy, stupid and afraid to do any real reporting.

DO NOT BELIEVE A FUCKING WORD THIS REGIME SAYS!

THEY ARE MURDERERS!

[–] VeryVito@lemmy.ml 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Hey now… it’s the pedophilia that they REALLY should be known for.

[–] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago

Jackasses of all trades, really.

[–] Master@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Maybe im jaded but reading the headline and my mind immediately thinks, guess they shot a random peaceful protester and are trying to cover it up.... AGAIN!

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 5 points 1 day ago

They haven't given us a single reason to expect otherwise. All they've done is hurt people and lie about it.

I don't trust this

[–] ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world 44 points 1 day ago

Based on ICE's previous track record...

violently assaulting

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 28 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Let me put this into my trusty fascist translator and see what we get.

Bleep bloop. Whhhrrrrr. Pop. Bloop bloop DING!

An innocent person was illegally shot by fascist brownshirts for no reason other than the psychopathic joy of expressing violence on people who are temporarily morally constrained from fighting back.

The Department of Violating the Constitution under the tacit approval of a collapsed congress, a corrupt supreme court and the oathbreaking military says the individual was begging for their life with arms raised in a defensive posture instinctually preparing himself for his anticipated state sanctioned murder.

From https://www.startribune.com/ice-raids-minnesota/601546426

A man was shot in the leg Wednesday night during a federal immigration enforcement operation in north Minneapolis.

Witnesses say a series of gunshots followed a car chase and foot chase involving federal agents. The Department of Homeland Security said an agent fired “defensive shots” that hit a man in the leg

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 1 points 19 hours ago

Apparently there was a video posted and 911 call made in the same part of Minneapolis at the same time stating that people had been chasing her husband and ramming him with their car and that they shot him through the front door of his house as he ran inside to his wife and children.

[–] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago

Yes, defensively shooting the man running away. Of course.

[–] lectricleopard@lemmy.world 33 points 1 day ago

These are probably those "defensive shots" that hit people in the back. Law enforcement can bend the laws of physics with their reports and testimonies.

[–] robocall@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 30 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yup. And the only good Nazi is a dead Nazi.

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 2 points 1 day ago (3 children)

The acceptable alternative to a dead Nazi is leaving the last one just barely alive but still beaten to a pulp, so thry can spread the word to their ilk.

Also, nice username, but also kinda ironic in this context?

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If they have ilk to spread the word to, they aren't the last one. /pedant

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 1 points 1 day ago

Well generally you don't kill all the Nazis in one fell swoop, sadly. So "the last" generally refers to the last person within the grouping you were exterminating at any given moment where the statement is applicable.

[–] Dhar@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

Leave the body as a warning

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago

Super ironic.

And yes, staking up the ones we have as a warning to others...perfect.

[–] IronpigsWizard@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Venezuelan citizen reportedly.

It's exceptionally fucked up that the USA basically destabilized the country....annnnddd then continues to send people there. :(

[–] hexdream@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Vuolentky assaulted? Did they throw another hotdog towards them?
