Elizabeth Warren

Kamala Harris

AOC

Bernie (but he wouldn't run)

Pete Buttigeig (he'd be just as bad, but he'd be easier to get elected)

Happy?

My point was "election ready" is meaningless.

Are you unable to answer my question, because I’m answering yours

You literally didn't...

What do you think “election ready” means?

Calling it ranting is hyperbole

For an average person? Sure.

Rant: to talk in a noisy, excited, or declamatory manner

For last night? It was one of Biden's most energetic responses...

For him, it was noisy, excited, and declamatory in manner.

In the context of Joe Biden, he was ranting about it.

Quick edit:

Your clip isn't the one I'm remembering from last night and that my link referenced. I'll try and find the other one, I didn't know he pulled the same pivot twice.

Who is a potential candidate who will be election ready in four months, because it’s not going to happen.

What do you think "election ready" means?

Because with the current state of things, to me it just means their name goes on a ballot.

Don't you remember the hype about how much Biden prepped for this debate? And this is what we got.

and is doing a damn fine job of it

You may hold that opinion, Biden definitely holds that opinion. But most Dem voters dont believe it.

Not everyone shares your opinion on things, and we know that because polling is a thing.

I just don’t see how anyone can declare Trump the winner

trump supporters were always going to say it, but who cares what they think?

Everything is about what Biden did poorly.

Because when the only other option is trump, it really matters if Biden isn't capable.

Are the right-wing forums sitting around this morning discussing what great ideas Trump put out last night?

Again, who cares?

And why does it sound like you want Dem voters to be more like Republican voters and have zero standards besides the letter by someone's name?

You can't turn the Dem party into the Republican party. If that's what Dem voters wanted from a party. They'd be Republican voters.

It's easier to change the candidate than 60 million Dem voter's standards...

Look at Biden's poll numbers...

Someone that no one knows with a D by their name is still going to be "not trump" and get every single vote that Biden will get.

Along with the votes of people that can't ignore a genocide, that can't ignore human rights abuses at our own border, or any of the other areas where Biden is significantly more conservative than Dem voters.

The more people know about Biden, the less they support him. That is why a completely unknown "empty suit" has a better chance at stopping trump

Bonus points if they're not two decades past the retirement age for their generation

During a response to a question about abortion, Biden mentioned, seemingly out of nowhere, a young woman who was recently murdered by an immigrant — an apparent reference to a 12-year-old Houston girl who was strangled to death, allegedly by two Venezuelan men who entered the country illegally.

The connection to abortion was unclear.

It literally happened...

You can go back and watch it happen.

I get that it's not what you want to have happened, but that doesn't change reality

This isn't the 1970s... We don't have to rely on our memories of what happened

If you don't believe the AP's live updates, if the full debate is uploaded to YouTube somewhere you can watch Biden say it.

[-] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago

Exactly.

I don't know why people want to declare Biden did a great job just because Trump showed up and acted like trump.

Biden was stumbly but he at least answered questions and you 90% knew what he was talking about.

He didn't answer every question, multiple times he just went off about something else.

If you feel like you understood him 90% of the time, then you're the exception. I'm sure every trump supporter is saying trump made sense most of the time too.

That's why I asked:

Feel free to provide a source from literally any major news organization claiming Biden did well and was coherent.

And you apparently couldn't find one...

Edit:

And I shouldn't have to repeat this in every comment...

But yes.

Trump is terrible.

But Biden might not be good enough to beat Trump, so why not run someone that is while we're still a month away from the convention and as the DNC loves to say: they can nominate anyone they want, primaries aren't real elections.

but Biden was recovering from a cold, so he’s unfit.”

Literally haven't seen that excuse yet...

Has he been recovering from a cold the last decade?

Republicans will vote Republican no matter what.

Dem voters have always needed a candidate they like and/or agree with to turnout en mass and get the Dem elected.

It makes zero sense to keep blaming Dem voters for having standards instead of blaming party leaders for continuingly shoving candidates we don't like down our throats.

There is zero reason to keep pushing unpopular candidates.

But because we all held our noses for Biden 4 years ago, he got to nominate DNC leadership and he picked idiots who say Biden is our only shot.

Holding our noses and voting for a candidate whose not for basic parts of the party platform, just moves the party platform and makes it even harder to get votes the next election.

TLDR:

The dystopian hellscape set in the future isn't as dystopian as current reality...
