Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Every ICE agent deserves a nice long stay on a cruise ship, preferably without power, sewage, and with only hardtack infested with weavals.

[–] Iheartcheese@lemmy.world 42 points 4 months ago

All of ICE in a boat you say?

Such bullshit.

Miles said the men, whom she worried could have been bounty hunters, did not identify themselves when she asked for their names and badge numbers while they detained her at a bus stop by the shopping center.

When the men did not believe Miles’ tribal ID, she pointed to a phone number for the Umatilla Tribal enrollment office on the back of the card.

“Call it,” she said.

When they didn’t, she took out her phone to call the office herself, but the agents tried unsuccessfully to take her phone, she said. That’s when a fifth agent in the SUV whistled over, and the agents went back to their vehicles and left.

To be fair, ICE agents have never seen a Native American ID before in their lives.

You'd think that would be part of training for an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer. They have many land borders with the US.

Its almost like when you give law enforcement more money, they just use it on weapons. Sounds like a terror cell to me...

I mean, that facial recognition app is just that with extra steps.

The saddest part is that if you live in the racist regions in the usa long enough with light skin, you will eventually adapt to those sunnier areas and just be dark. And then to further complicate issues, global climate change.

So you go in as a vampire imperialist, set down and get rid of anybody with darker skin than you, and slowly over time you end up having just as dark of skin, and then the lighter skin humans come in and kick YOUR ass and the process repeats.

Hating people for skin color is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard, on par with being afraid of your own shadow.

Training? That's adorable.

[–] Sludgehammer@lemmy.world 9 points 4 months ago

You can probably remove "ID" from your post.

[–] AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 44 points 4 months ago (1 children)

ICE deporting a Native American would be depressingly ironic.

[–] discocactus@lemmy.world 11 points 4 months ago

Oh it's already happened.

[–] aceshigh@lemmy.world 26 points 4 months ago

Native Americans are… Mexicans right? /s

I have my tribal ID dismissed as fake all the time. My cousin started boycotting Walmart in the 90’s, because they refused to sell her beer. She doesn’t have a drivers license and (due to a quirk where her home state wouldn’t recognize her out-of-state birth certificate as valid) she couldn’t easily get a state ID. So she used her tribal ID. It worked in most places because she lived in an area with lots of natives. But Walmart’s company policy was to refuse tribal IDs… Meaning she couldn’t buy beer at Walmart, or use their pharmacy. So she started boycotting them all the way back in the 90’s due to that.

Hell, it happened to me just two days ago at the bank. I changed my name a while ago, and needed a photo ID with my old name on it. I had already changed my driver’s license and passport to my new name, so all I had on me at the time was my old tribal ID. The bank manager (a tiny blonde white lady) and I went back and forth about it for a little while… But it became clear that she had no intention of accepting it as a valid ID. So now I’ve been stuck dealing with some bureaucratic BS for the past two days.

My wife (who is just as white as the bank manager) was more surprised about the denial than I was, because it was the first time she had seen it get denied. Like she knew conceptually that it happened, but she hadn’t seen it happen in person until then. Luckily, my cases of denied ID have had much lower stakes than this article. But I wouldn’t doubt for a second that it happened to her, because I know from personal experience that tribal IDs get dismissed as fake all the time.

The irony of the descendants of immigrants into North America trying to detail Native Americans as immigrants is trully world-beating.

[–] LordCrom@lemmy.world 14 points 4 months ago

Imagine the chaos if highway patrol pulled you over and asked for your Driver Lic. You give it and they say, " nope, this is fake". Then break your car window, throw you to the ground, and zip tie your 5 year old who was in the back. How would people react to that?

Thats what ICE does.

[–] LMurch@thelemmy.club 7 points 4 months ago (5 children)

ICE needs more training and supervision.

[–] nocturne@slrpnk.net 35 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I was thinking they needed more wasps and hornets in their pants.

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 32 points 4 months ago

They need to not have any kind of power or authority. Training and supervision won't do it when the agency is filled with violent racisfs

[–] ruekk@lemmy.world 24 points 4 months ago

Or a dirt nap

[–] carotte@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 4 months ago (1 children)

they need more bullets in their heads

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

This is the only kind of supervision treatment they deserve:
