i wonder why? it's kind of a major plot point that ranma was in China when he fell into the lake of drowned girl, and that him and genma are returning from there in the first episode

Gotta erase China from everything
Just want to add here that this is 100% not a change the author decided on. The author drew communist Ranma with the star quite recently: 
The erasure of China from the new series has definitely originated within the animation studio.

Wait, why are the originals in chinese clothes? Does it take place in China?
Parts of Ranma 1/2 take place in China and several of the characters are Chinese. It's a martial arts story with a gender-bending plot.
I should note that even with the red stars gone and the name "China" removed from the one outfit that the Ranma reboot does still have a lot of Chinese "aesthetics", the opening theme for the second season is called "Wo Ai Ni" for instance, Shampoo still has a Chinese accent and still uses gratuitous Chinese phrases, etc.
I want to look like this in my overall, but no boobs yet
