The Occupation of Alcatraz was a 19-month long protest which began on this day in 1969, when 89 Native Americans and their supporters occupied and reclaimed Alcatraz Island as indigenous land.

The protest was led by Richard Oakes and Grace Thorpe. The group chose the name Indians of All Tribes (IOAT) for themselves and lived on the island together until the protest was forcibly ended by the U.S. government.

IOAT claimed that, under the Treaty of Fort Laramie between the U.S. and the Lakota tribe, all retired, abandoned, or out-of-use federal land was returned to the Indians who once occupied it.

By late May of 1971, the government had cut off all electrical power and all telephone service to the island. Left without power, fresh water, and in the face of diminishing public support and sympathy, the number of occupiers began to dwindle. On June 11th, 1971, a large force of federal officers removed the remaining 15 people from the island.

Got a 22TB Seagate HDD from a black friday sale. Wish I could have afforded a Western Digital one, but maybe I'll get lucky in this one lasting. Finally will be able to start double and triple backuping stuff. Got my mom to stop paying for Disney+. I'll use it for the Plex server for downloading Disney stuff that she wants too.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I'm actually cursed.

I wonder which elder god hates me?

Yo, Shagalathgh or whoever? What's your deal? I'm just an owl. Cut it out.

I spent 14 in-game days just executing Engineers. The generator was 100% done, I could just have gone home, but I wanted this achievement.

Western right-wing japanophiles are literally the same as the anti-deutsche movement in germany.

About once a year, thousands of crows flock past my apartment. I counted maybe 50 going past my window in 30 seconds (which was when it had already started to slow to a relatively trickle), and it went on for about 10-15 minutes. Its really cool, now i have video of them doing it at night last year in the rain, and now this morning over a sunrise.

Been playing infinite wealth and my need to do all the substories is conflicting with wanting to see the rest of the main story because of time constraints. It is making sure at least that I'm properly leveled up at least and all the swag I keep collecting is helping me in tough fights.

My boss has assigned his wife to work dish on Saturdays. She's acrually pretty cool but it means we have to remember not to shit talk him. Anyway, despite having gotten a few talking to's over the years about making it too obvious when im pissed off, the opposite side of my being very open and abd blunt is i get assigned to train people so I was assigned to teach her how to do the job. Which was awkwardish

I'm going to be working on a resource sim soon. I plan it being fairly bog standard macroeconomy sim (there's a twist but I don't want to talk about that yet.) I figure 12ish countries, each with a population and an amount of consumption of several resources per person. Simple controls so basically allow trade or don't. Then have random events like natural disasters and the decision to send aid. Anything else I should add?

Reading the history of neoliberalism by david harley. It's a great book and everyone should read it to grasp how neoliberalism changed everything and influenced mass movements

bird-bouncy got all of the security features working without breaking my Foundry plug-in. Now I just gotta dial in the input validation so that it stops deleting all of the html tags that Foundry uses, and then...

Shit, I think I'll only have two more things to implement before the first public release. Although I've saved the hardest for last...

It's so cool how we literally have a worldwide pedophile conspiracy we all know about and is basically verified, but now that liberals care it's suddenly cringe to notice.

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 7 points 5 days ago

We have two of those actually, don't forget about the Catholic Church

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 5 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

When my dad was my age, he was dragging two kids and a wife on bike trips to the local college football stadium for free tickets after halftime. Now he's been dead for 5 years. I bet he wishes he was single with a cat and a Playstation 5 instead tofu-cool
