"Well ex-cuuuuuuse me, princess!"

[–] cyborganism@lemmy.ca 18 points 2 months ago

I sincerely hope he says that line in the movie

[–] Larry@lemmy.zip 78 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Damn, that movie is going to be awful.

Yeah, we need studio Ghibli to do it!

[–] Endmaker@ani.social 61 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Given the rest of the comments in this thread, here's a controversial opinion: Imma reserve my judgement instead of judging a book by its cover.

I find it hard to tell if a movie - especially its plot - is good or bad based on just 3 images.

The only thing about this so far that I dislike is that they didn't find a fully blond guy to play Link. The fake blond look is not a great fit.

[–] zero_spelled_with_an_ecks@programming.dev 22 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They should have dyed it pink.

Link with pink hair

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago

He really ought to be bare-legged and in a super-short tunic as well

[–] rozodru@pie.andmc.ca 15 points 2 months ago

why blond? Links hair can be Brown, Blonde or even Pink.

IMHO his hair should have been Pink or Brown.

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 9 points 2 months ago (5 children)

His hair is brown in many early incarnations, and went brown-blonde before full blonde. Personally think this colour in the image is peak OoT link hair shade.

I have zero hopes they can pull this off. Links game personality doesn't translate well to film. Nits just gonna be a teenage fantasy romance.

[–] paultimate14@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Probably 10-15 years ago I found a project from a bunch of high schoolers called Legend of Link. I always felt like the very self-aware, tongue-in-cheek tone translates really well. But I don't think an official project could pull that off as well.

He only repeats one line over and over: "Well ex-cuuuuuuse me, princess!"

[–] Droechai@piefed.blahaj.zone 14 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That would actually get my butt to the cinema bench. Especially if he "flies" by jumping on bomb blasts with his shield

[–] Albbi@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'd also accept if he was essentially Beavis ala The Legend of Beavis which is one of the funniest things on YouTube.

I think I’ve seen this. He just says “As you wish.”

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

He's less of a talker and more of a "Hey, Listen!" er.

The trailer hopefully will show:

  • Jack Black as a Goron king wincing saying "ooo right in the dekus!" after Link gets hit in the groin by a slingshot and crosses his eyes before falling backwards
  • The Rock as Ganondorf doing the eyebrow raise, and saying, "can you smell what the 'dorf is cooking?"
  • James Bautista sneaking into a Gerudu camp wearing a lacy tube top, face covering, and flowing pants
  • Link's horse making a suggestive whinny and pushing Link closer to Zelda played by Zendaya

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

The Rock as Ganondorf doing the eyebrow raise, and saying, “can you smell what the 'dorf is cooking?”

You say this as a joke, but Dwayne Johnson would be a fantastic Ganondorf.

If you told me this was season 3 of Wheel of Time, I would believe you.

angry internet gamer noises

Neither of these people are ethnically elfish. Immersion absolutely ruined. FFS, Mr. Zelda looks downright Norwegian. Not a drop of Hyrulean blood in his veins. I'm boycotting this movie. I'm boycotting it!

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

Look like couple cosplaying. Can't wait for the mostly cgi trailer. This didn't need to be made.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

The background is going to be out of focus the whole movie, I guarantee it.

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Link is not nearly femboy enough. I give it a 1 out of 10.

As long as it has one of these references:

"Well excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me princess!"

"HEY LISTEN"

"Suavamente"

"It's dangerous to go alone! Take this!"

Combat rolls

Bomb jump

Shield spring jump

Chakram Boomerang moment

Sword Throw

we're good

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

I can't wait to bomb some dodongos!

They really cast the best looking actor for Link's role. He really looks like the most recent iteration of the character in the video game.

[–] Canadian_Cabinet@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Does Zelda every use a bow in any of the games? I always thought she was more magic-oriented

[–] LuigiMaoFrance@lemmy.ml 12 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (4 children)

She uses light arrows against Ganondorf in Wind Waker. I kinda wanna say BotW too but maybe I'm misremembering

[–] JandroDelSol@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

in breath of the wild she gives you the bow of light, and I believe she also uses it in both of the Hyrule Warriors games. I thiiiiink she also has one in smash but it's been a hot second since I've played

Yes, it's part of defeating Gannon in multiple games. Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, maybe Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild if I remember correctly. There are definitely more. I always thought it was a core part of her iconography...

Those two look perfect for the role. I don’t think I have seen him in anything but I saw her in King and Conqueror and she is great

[–] _Nico198X_@europe.pub 5 points 2 months ago

seems fine, but i still can't believe they didn't partner with Ghibli for this.
