They weren't even no kings protests.

[–] Dort_Owl@hexbear.net 57 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Ffs do people not realize that monarchs are literally just tyrants under the pretence of "God totally said I should be in charge trust me bro."?

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 42 points 1 month ago

But we love our heckin' British monarch-a-rino! ^(Please ignore their ties to Epstein, the extrajudicial death squads, or their interference in Australian elections)

[–] CTHlurker@hexbear.net 23 points 1 month ago

I've had to argue with pretty much everyone I work with that the monarchy is a huge and useless drain on the Danish state, and if we are all supposed to tighten our belts to afford the new millitary buildup, then I don't want to see a fucking king and a palace paid for the people.

Country with a monarchy here.

Death to the kings.

They say on the Internet, no one knows you're a cat. But you're such a cute kitty, you can't hide it. I mean, everyone on Hexbear is hug shaped, because, y'know, assume Hexbears are all actually bears unless told otherwise, but you look extra cuddly because fluffy kitty cat.

And no, you may not eat my pronouns, kitty.

[–] mrfugu@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

yes no tyrants no despots no evil evil bad stinky doo doo people. very succinct

[–] LargeAdultRedBook@hexbear.net 5 points 1 month ago

This is actually how many libs think.

[–] RedSturgeon@hexbear.net 71 points 1 month ago (1 children)

American propaganda is some next level stuff. If this kind of crowd gathered in some other time some other place, the governments would be scrambling and shitting their pants, but people have been so extremely pacified it's not a threat in any shape or form. It might even be an economic boost lol

Is this supposed to spread awareness? Everyone known what's happening already, but they subscribe to their own version of the truth and this isn't going to change people's minds.

[–] stink@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 3 weeks ago

Lol you're right about it being an economic boost. You should've seen DC / Arlington after the protest. Libbed up signs while they were ordering $15 cocktails talking about how much activism they did that day.

[–] TerminalEncounter@hexbear.net 60 points 1 month ago (2 children)

The era of safe large protest in the US has gotta been shown to accomplish little by now right? The Iraq War had some of the largest protests ever for its time. The initial 2016 anti Trump riots were also huge. This no kings thing were massive. I get people are scared because American police are nuts and violent, but burn some shit down or something.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 58 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I think it's even worse because they undermine any protest that would burn shit down by scolding them. Why can't you be like that protest? And it creates people who will actively collaborate with the cops and grab a protester who is trying to start shit, they will hand you over to the police.

These people are being actively trained to demonstrate wrongly, and to undermine demonstration that does anything rightly. All they have demonstrated is the ineffectiveness of this type of demonstration.

It has to be viewed as electoral campaigning. This is an electoral rally using protest as a motivator, not a demonstration. The only goal they have is electoral.

[–] VILenin@hexbear.net 15 points 1 month ago

Well-off white liberals, the primary organizers behind this, go to protests as social events and as a break from their military contractor jobs. It's no wonder they celebrated when SDPD called them good boys on twitter.

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 51 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The few months of rioting after George Floyd's death got more reforms than the previous decade of peaceful protests every time someone was killed by police.

[–] jack@hexbear.net 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They didn't get any reforms at all. Almost everywhere, police funding went up. Riots are no more effective than peaceful marches.

It's almost like they needed concrete demands and a plan to see them through.

[–] shath@hexbear.net 27 points 1 month ago

my concrete demand is for them to all poop theyself

[–] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 24 points 1 month ago

Gee, too bad no one's written about what needs to be done!

[–] VILenin@hexbear.net 17 points 1 month ago

If Trump doesn't stop Trumping we'll be back next time with snippier signs!

11 millions people would have been enough to invade the capitol

[–] FettermansFinalStroke@hexbear.net 33 points 1 month ago (1 children)

My local explicitly socialist org got extensive media coverage and membership/interest increased by double after these protests. We must meet the people where they are and push them further left rather than be fucking redditor ass losers, criticizing any movement that is not the revolution. If you’re able to, and you’re not outside touching grass and organizing I respectfully judge you. The vanguard will not be found on hexbear dot net.

I'll go when they start mandating masks and enacting preventative measures against the careless spread of disease again. You're not going to do that, though, and no one else will advocate for those who suffered/are suffering under COVID and continuous threat of exposure to an airborne, highly transmissible, potentially asymptomatic neurodegenerative disease that causes cumulative, lasting damage with each infection and, most importantly, has no cure. So, no, I'll stay right where I am.

Plenty you can do from inside. What part of the world are you in?

[–] mononoke@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

The point is not that I am in here, and think I can do nothing. The point is that you are all out there, and think you can do everything. You are all out there, frozen in time, in denial, when the world changed in 2020. The world changed and no one in the world is changing with it, so now measles returns. Whooping cough returns. Tuberculosis returns. Do you understand? I have done and continue to do plenty with my community of people who are devoted to keeping each other and us all safe. 11 million people are in all these photographs telling me they do not share this value. I go outside every day to people telling me they do not share this value. Whatever is going on out there, it's certainly something, but it's not sustainable in the new world. It's not equitable, it's not emancipatory. The same people screech and holler and scold and assure me that whatever side they're on really cares about those things, but nothing they do can be any of those things if their health, their people's health, the health of everyone involved in present or future is forfeit to the plague—and if that's the case, what good is any of it? Just wear a god damn mask when you're outside your home. It's that simple.

[–] cassandrafatigue@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I'm not a huge fan of mass cultures approach to pandemic management.

I don't think most people care. Not about this; not about anything. They literally dont know how. Just totally sloppified fucking p-zombie automatons functioning entirely at the level of social pressure and first impression instinct and a shallow identity derived from that. It sucks it's alienating and it's awful. I find it makes losing these people¹ to their own stupidity worryingly easy on the heart.

I don't know what your big issues are.

But you can't live in a world alone. So back-end support, which is at least as important as and more broadly applicable than any situation where you might be gassed in a crowd of non-maskers, must still be done yo make a better world.

I'm of the opinion that the world gets made by the people who show up. For whatever reason, in whatever context. To the police riot the jitsi meeting the covert action or the friend group; it gets made by the people who show up. I don't know what you're doing to make people suck less, not gonna ask. Just asking that you're doing something.

¹to yhe extent that they are

[–] AssortedBiscuits@hexbear.net 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

So many group photos of socialist orgs with not one person wearing a goddamn mask.

[–] manuallybreathing@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 month ago

Where I live the government is working to make it illegal to wear a mask in public (again, it was already), the police will already approach you demanding you remove your mask, even screaming take off your fucking mask as they shoot you with pepper spray

personally I just keep turning up to events with a mask and offer extras to anyone I see

Mushrooms may help repairing degenerative damage when generative mechanisms remain-so head trauma but less for late stage dementia.

[–] AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

They did say if you are able to be fair, I think their point was pretty valid all things considered, I don't think they were calling out folks like yourself

[–] mononoke@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (1 children)

The problem with this excuse is that no one is immune to COVID and there is no cure for COVID. There is no evidence that the body fully clears a COVID infection. No one is "able." It is not that I am singularly "not able"—for one no one makes my stipulation for ability possible when they all have every means to, and mostly proved that they had every means to in the first year of the pandemic when everyone was still afraid and made everything digital or wore masks; nature was healing, remember? So much for that. We all should still be just as afraid of this and demanding we all take it just as seriously as we were then, and we're not. That's not on me. People like me are treated like we're yoga moms into healing crystals or chud YouTube influencers on an exclusive diet of red meat trying to "turn" everyone else with our clickbait nonsense when it's the exact opposite. You all fell for the clickbait. I am largely done with this conversation now. Let everyone catch infinity COVID forever and we'll pick up the pieces of the able-bodied like we always do. Learn the lesson or don't. Personally I'd pick a time not in the middle of unprecedented global precarity to take this bet but as everyone loves saying these days, "you do you."

[–] AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

You're replying to me like I think it's cool and good society moved past this as if it was over, I don't. Nor did I "fall for clickbait" I don't know what you expect me to do

[–] mononoke@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (3 children)

Stop making excuses for these people, mostly. They are committing violence and as long as they insist on continuing I don't see any reason to stop telling them what they are doing, especially when I know they can do better and instead choose not to. If you agree with me, why hold water for them?
