I have continued my Kenshi antics, killing slavers and freeing everyone. I have most of the UC slave farms down now and finally finished my "I got the Phoenix" world tour and handed him to the Shek.

Also bashed through a lot of Jump Space with friends. 4p co-op mission-based PvE space FPS, think Deep Rock on a ship. Love it. Incredible pacing, honest. Could use some player progression, but I'm assuming that's just the early-access-ness. If this is all that ever comes of it, I'll still have gotten my money's worth and would just think of it as a bit repetitive on the content. But fun as hell.

Tried Arc Raiders. Absolutely furious about it. Gamers suck. Thought this could be a learning moment for them since all meaningful loot comes from not-other-players, so the PvPvE should really lead to mostly PvE play and freeform team-ups, but gamers are gamers and deserve the gulag. It's just another Tarkov; most players are pieces of shit. (Note: I have not gotten good, but the moral judgement stands.)

Picked up Kingdom Come Deliverance with all DLCs for like 8 bucks.

Started playing, since i love making things way too hard for myself I started in hardcore mode having never played before. I'm getting my ass eviscerated by any random group of bandits but I'm enjoying it a lot! 'Enry is a fun protag.

Mostly DnD. That counts right?

I'm still working through 100% every non-mmo final fantasy game. Yesterday I worked on FFII.

A friend wants to 100% Factorio together so I did the tutorial for that too.

[–] Sickos@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Ooh, Factorio, now that's a game with great trains train-shining. Have fun!

Working through every Final Fantasy is a neat goal. Hell of a series.

[–] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 7 points 1 week ago

I can already tell I'll have fun with Factorio but it will mostly be my friend speedrunning for that 40hr achievement and I'll just be along for the ride, lol.

I've always loved final fantasy but only every played in fits and starts. Figure no time like the present to fix that.

[–] KobaCumTribute@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago

Ooh, Factorio, now that's a game with great trains

There's even a project cybersyn mod to make them even better. Although mods invalidate achievements, unfortunately.

[–] Demifriend@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

How are you liking Final Fantasy II? That game has been on my radar for a while, I've heard it's good but a little rough around the edges.

I've gotten back with my toxic situationship (I've started playing eve online again)

[–] Sulvy@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

In the deepest depths of my EVE addiction I had taken my computer to my living room and hooked it up to my big TV so I could multibox better

[–] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 2 points 6 days ago

I did that playing Rimworld once. And then I got a mod to deal with the colonist bar issue that led to that choice.

I started learning a new keyboard layout, so I haven't been playing much, but I started playing Gunfire Reborn with my brother and damn, this game good. It's a Chinese FPS furry roguelike, and it's very adiccting. The translation is not the best but is good enough most of the time.

Other than that, I want to finish Hollow Knight. I'm currently stuck on the 4th pantheon. And also want to go back and finish FF7 Remake, iirc I'm on chapter 12 or 13.

[–] booty@hexbear.net 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

First time I've seen Gunfire mentioned in the wild. I love that game, it's fantastic with friends

[–] KrasMazov@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hell yeag! Even solo it is pretty fun, but I've been having a blast playing with my brother. I wish there was more content online about it, I only really found one of two videos about the game, maybe it is just much more popular in China then outside.

Since we're here: you should know that the elemental effects combine. It's not explained well inside the game, but if you put 2 status effects on an enemy it consumes them both to create a different one.

Electrocute + corrosive = poison (deals a % of max hp per tick, can stack; if you hit an enemy with something that rapidly applies electric damage with elemental chance while they're on a corrosive area, like the Crown Prince Gas Grenade, it will destroy their hp bar very fast)

Electrocute + fire = explosion (good for dealing with many enemies at once ofc)

Fire + corrosive = charm (a lot of games have this kind of effect, in Gunfire Reborn it has a bit more strength due to the really strangely long duration)

Some occult scrolls give you 100% chance to inflict the elemental effects. For example after switching weapons. If you get this, it can be disgustingly powerful with a shotgun or SMG while the enemy is continuously being applied with another element. It will create a stack of the debuff for each hit.

The vaults on each level can contain more than one reward. The ones where it's just a parkour challenge or the boulder traps always have 2 chests, you just have to look for the second one after you reach the end.

Of all the Chinese games I've played, Gunfire Reborn has by far the best translation.

[–] Esoteir@hexbear.net 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah it's good, I think people are confusing obtuse ability description -> bad translation, I'm sure the owl's heart of the cards gambling paragraph is just as hard to parse in the original writing

Only problem I've had is I started playing the new season and the main seasonal mechanic tooltip was in chinese and I was like "damn alright then lmao"

I think it was patched literally like three hours after the update so I was just early

Gunfire is neat, I especially like the owl who plays a TCG at the same time as shooting people. Some of the difficulty stuff is wonky, and once you discover some of the wombo combos runs tend to get samey, but still good fun.

I was playing a lot of Hades II, working on clearing the Night's Champion challenge, but a new patch came out the other day that added new events leading up to and after the True Ending, and it kind of killed my motivation to keep playing tbh. I don't really want to go back and redo the story for the stuff I missed, but I don't want to just keep playing and never see it either... So I think I'm just gonna stop playing for a while and start over whenever I feel like it.

Otherwise I've been playing Wind Waker mostly. I also started Z.H.P. Unlosing Ranger vs. Darkdeath Evilman this morning, it's a very silly Shiren the Wanderer style roguelike that's inspired by tokusatsu. I'm enjoying it so far but I haven't played much yet, I'm still in the tutorial dungeon.

[–] Runcible@hexbear.net 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hades I is the only game I have had this experience (Devs adding more and well executed content) where it made me stop playing for about a year.

[–] Demifriend@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah... Like I appreciate that they are willing to keep working on and improving their game, and I still enjoyed it plenty up to this point, but it is kinda frustrating to wait like a year and a half for the game's 1.0 release only for them to change things a month after the fact. Kinda makes me wish they had just kept it in early access for longer.

[–] Runcible@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago

Yeah, completely relatable. I put this one down while I was still excited about it just to not have this experience.

Gone back to tf2. I honestly have no idea why I didn’t play soldier more. Is demoknight based or cringe, I’m thinking about going back to stickies

[–] 7bicycles@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago

Demoknight is incredibly more based than the fucking stickies. fuck the stickies and their 0,5s time to prime

As an old, Jump Space really is like playing Deep Rock while lightly scratching the X-Wing itch. I need more.

I had a lot of fun with Dragon's Dogma 2 this weekend, and safe to say, I suck at it, but I'm enjoying the clunkiness the game has. Beautiful designs, overly chatty characters and boss fights with up to 5 healthbars so far have not deterred me. It's hell but it's fun party-cat

[–] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

a little bit more time stranger, a little bit more terrible old yu-gi-oh games

felt the ancient call of the dungeon crawler so fired up grimrock, those games were so damn good

[–] grym@hexbear.net 1 points 1 hour ago

God grimrock was so peak. grimrock 2 is to me the absolute peak of that genre.

I have not found anything that scratched that itch the same way since. I haven't really been looking to be fair, but the few things I did see were missing something for me.

I keep restarting in WR:SR. Trying a map of Cuba I grabbed from the Steam Workshop this time. Without the need to worry about heat plants, a lot of opportunities open up. I skipped the indoor pool to build a soccer field for once.

Accidentally had about 70 people move in early, but I was able to manage water/sewage by truck until the plumbing was finished.

[–] LENINSGHOSTFACEKILLA@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

what is wr:sr and how can i play cuba

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago

Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic, the infamously difficult city builder themed after the eastern bloc countries.

There are a few maps on the steam workshop where you can build in a Cuban map instead of eastern europe, though you'd probably have to grab several dozen other mods to add more Cuba-specific assets.

still going through BG3 with my partner and brothers, but that's been on hold for a week while a few of us are out of town. Jumped back into helldivers 2 for a bit, and having a ton of fun. performance is still janky, but better than it was, and i'm having more fun killing bots than I ever had before. aside from getting stunlocked into a ragdoll loop on occasion.

i tried bf6 "redsec" or whatever the fuck its called and really it just makes me want to play bf6 more, but i'm not at a point where i can drop $70 on a game that i won't adore as much as i want to.

Also running through The Quarry for the first time with my partner. We finished chapter 1 and maybe even chapter 2? i'm digging it!

[–] invo_rt@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

After some procrastination, I finally finished Death Stranding 2 over the weekend. My thoughts overall are complicated, but it's Kojima at his most bombastic. It's a unique piece; some of the ideas are so far out there, I can't imagine anyone but him being given the budget and time necessary to see it through.

Overall, having played both back to back, I'd say the narrative is stronger in the first game. The sequel has higher highs than the first, but it's more inconsistent. The gameplay in the second is best-in-class. It feels like the logical continuation of what was started in MGSV, which is why I've heard that it's so MGS-like. You have a large sandbox of toys and you get to choose how you want to proceed. Also, DS2 took a good look at the UI in DS1 and corrected pretty much every issue I had with it.

All in all, I'd say DS1 is absolutely required reading before playing DS2. The games are waaay too interlinked to skip it. For the future, there is a very obvious thread to pull on for another game, but so much of what was built in the first two games is over that you'd really have to take things in a different direction. I'm curious about OD, but I'm more interested in seeing what PhysInt is going to be.

i can't wait for DS2 to hit pc so i'm stuck here just avoiding spoilers for the next like, year

WoD as GM'd by one of my regular players. He did a damn sight better than I did when I tried running a WoD adventure but then again I had only been playing TTRPGs for a year at that point.

Otherwise I've been screwing around with Emulators

Partner and I started playing Code Vein, shit slaps

[–] ChaosMaterialist@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago

I finally beat Black Mesa. The Gonarch can throw ~~hands~~ eggsacks. Once out of that I breezed through the rest of Xen. The second half basically keeps your health, armor, and gluon gun constantly recharged. It reminds me of the final section of Half-Life 2 where you become death. I'm glad the final boss doesn't do that teleportation nonsense.

As a final note, I want to let the AI programmer for the headcrabs that my hatred comes from a deep place of respect. Not only do they do a significant fraction of damage, but are quick to re-engage. More than a few times I busted out the shotgun so I couldn't miss.

Arc Raiders. It's so good I haven't enjoyed a game this much in years

More KSP, always more KSP.

Running KSP through proton is not only more stable than native Linux KSP, it's also more stable than native Windows KSP.

I also played a little FF7R, after struggling to get my 8bitdo controller to actually be recognized by the game. What eventually worked was pointing steam at the exe that I installed through Lutris so the steaminput could figure it out.

Playing battlefield 6 with my friends. its the first BF i've played in a long time, since bad company, and i'm finding it a lot more fun.

Tomorrow is Europa Universalis 5 day, so i'm gonna disappear for a few weeks while i play that lol.

[–] Esoteir@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

haven't played too much, but I played the first like hour of The Lonesome Guild, nothing groundbreaking so far (ARPG with persona-esque campfire scenes) but it's fun and cute, and it scratches that PMD itch narrative/graphics wise with royalty free furries

I haven't had much time for video games, but I have managed to play a little more Yakuza 0. Still laughing at the complete tonal whiplash between the wholesome/comedic tone of most of the sidequests compared to the gritty seriousness of the main story so far. I kind of dig it.

Its been pretty fun

Continuing to grind away at Warframe, but steadily running out of things to grind for. Currently, I need to get 2 specific rare parts from relics from Scare-o Kiteer so I can build two of the same gun and then combine them (magnus/akmagnus), but that's super mind-numbing so I'm mixing it up with other stuff. The real problem now is that, of 82 items I have yet to master, a full 50 are vaulted primes, and the other 32 are real sicko shit so it's starting to be slow going. The 6 Kuva weapons I'm still missing are probably some of the easier things, with the more annoying ones being stuff like Sigma & Octantis (log in for another 150 days) or the Braton Vandal/Lato Vandal (obscene droprates in an extremely boring mode).

Other than that, getting back up to date with Vampire Survivors. Just about wrapped up the Castlevania adventure and then I can start more seriously checking off stuff from Saga and then Ante Chamber.

Also won my monthly 40k game in Tabletop Sim. Thank you Shining Spear Exarch for making like 6 consecutive 4++s.

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago

I was gonna league start Path of Exile with a General's Cry Tectonic Slam of the Cataclysm build but didn't realize it was nerfed until a few hours before the patch dropped. So I just chose to default to RF instead. I'm not super enjoying it, feels very weak and I haven't been able to craft myself a good enough shield to make up for the lack of damage with tankiness. Will probably roll a cast on crit character once I save up like 50 divines.

[–] ryepunk@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago

Was a rough work week at the store (I hate being given 5 days of work) and so wasn't really able to play much.

But I did finally get some kills on savage omega in monster hunter wilds. And then managed to farm it enough times to no longer need to fight it again. I then farmed the normal fight to get the parts needed for the armor sets, and the dark knight armor is very fun with a cool blackest night ability that is fun to play around with.
