Two people were injured, including a US marshal, during an immigration enforcement operation early Tuesday in Los Angeles, the Department of Homeland Security said.

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent’s weapon discharged when the agent tried to grab an individual who apparently rammed into a vehicle that was part of a team of ICE and US marshals engaged in immigration enforcement, a law enforcement source tells CNN.

"The gun just did that."

We really should figure out a way to publicly shame this passive voice bullshit.

[–] SarcasticMan@lemmy.world 19 points 5 days ago

I didn't read the article but if it was a Sig P320 it might have "just did that"

[–] mkwt@lemmy.world 13 points 5 days ago

No, it's clearly the fault of the guy that got shot. That's why he's been criminally charged.

(/s but not on the criminal charges. Those are real.)

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 9 points 5 days ago

The gun went off, unprovoked

[–] sepi@piefed.social 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Was it a SIG P320? That one goes off by itself.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works -2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

No it doesn’t, but cops love to lie about that after the fact to cover up their mistakes.

[–] sepi@piefed.social 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Actually it does go off by itself. Plenty of civilians have posted videos showing this. There's a HUGE hullabaloo about it in the gun world right now, and a quick googling will prove it.

Even ICE thought they were terrible - huge yikes on that one

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago

Correction: ICE recklessly shot a US Marshal while attempting to murder a TikTok streamer in cold blood.

[–] jonne@infosec.pub 78 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, I'm not believing that version of events for a second.

[–] SpacePanda@mander.xyz 50 points 5 days ago (1 children)

So what I'm hearing from that title is a ice agent deliberately shot a US Marshal

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 25 points 5 days ago

I heard some of them talking on how they would like to take those marshal fucks down a peg. It was while they were talking about being better than the seals and rangers combined and wanted to show a few of them something.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 20 points 4 days ago

I wouldn’t believe for a second that anyone rammed an ICE vehicle unless they release video evidence and a confession. They have been caught lying about this shit at least a dozen times now.

Third person-ing the whole thing. “The gun discharged…”

No.

“Dumbass pulls trigger on gun and shoots people.”

Having used such firearms they do not just “discharge” without active effort.

Haven't heard of the legendary Gun That Definitely Kills People I see

That said it mostly seems to be cops covering up negligence filing these complaints, for some reason.

I had manager years ago that had a hole in his passenger side door. I asked what happened and one of my coworkers immediately jumped on the opportunity to tell me how he managed to discharge a hunting rifle in his passenger seat somehow.

I should have expected every other decision he made may be just as bad... But for some reason I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Turns out most of his decisions were that negligent.

[–] smeg@infosec.pub 37 points 5 days ago (3 children)

They aren't sending their best.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 24 points 5 days ago

Intentionally...

They're sending stupid untrained people with guns into high stress situations, and Stephen Miller knows it's only a matter of time for "accidents" and they'll use propaganda to normalize it and then start doing it intentionally.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 5 points 5 days ago

Maybe not the best, but probably typical of the average.

[–] Wxfisch@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

Even if they were, this isn’t what any of these people are trained for. Federal agents are not local police. They don’t go out on patrol or randomly deal with stressful situations. TV makes it seem like federal agents are out chasing bad guys every day but they spend a huge amount of time following leads, interviewing people, and digging up information from various sources (of which i make no comments on the legality of). None of these people are trained to be beat cops on the front lines every day this way.

CNN parrotting obvious lies from fascists.

[–] Lon3star@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago

Is their tryout for being bought by skydance

[–] breezeblock@lemmy.ca 30 points 5 days ago

I don’t believe a single word from this administration.

[–] MapleEngineer@lemmy.world 27 points 5 days ago
[–] krooklochurm@lemmy.ca 22 points 5 days ago (1 children)

So guns do hurt people now?

[–] meco03211@lemmy.world 19 points 5 days ago

Only when fascists want to use passive voice.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 19 points 5 days ago

This article has them saying 2 completely different things, probably both are lies.

“ICE law enforcement officers, assisted by U.S. Marshals, pulled the illegal alien over in a standard law enforcement procedure. The illegal alien weaponized his vehicle and began ramming the law enforcement vehicle in an attempt to flee,” the agency said in a statement. “Fearing for the safety of the public and law enforcement, our officers followed their training and fired defensive shots. The illegal alien was shot in the elbow and one law enforcement officer was shot in the hand by a ricochet bullet. Both are in the hospital.”

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Isn't that called negligence?

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 15 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I think it's called attempted murder and lies to cover it up.

Reading it a second time, it's really fucking obvious. A US Marshall AND the driver was injured when a vehicle operated by feds was "rammed" AND the agent's weapon discharged?

CNN can't even keep up with the propaganda demands now. They're having to tie unrelated events in spacetime together.

[–] thesohoriots@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago

“It hurt itself in its confusion!”

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Put them behind bars.

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

Was it a SIG P320? Lol
