to answer the ekkks poster, because the louvre has been routinely underpaying and overworking the museum staff, there's literally nobody to keep on eye on every room in the museum even if 50% of the staff wasn't taking their legally madated 1h cheating on my spouse break under french law

You know it is very odd when self identified socialists make fun of the French for having too many labour rights. The cheating on their spouses thing, whatever. But It is a common theme even in marxist spaces to see "lol the french take a lot of breaks and riot when their rights get taken away what fools".

[–] save_vs_death@hexbear.net 34 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

my intention was not to make fun of french labour rights but rather to point out it's harder to get worked to the bone if you have labour rights to begin with, i see how it came across as the opposite, sorry for that

[–] Keld@hexbear.net 17 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Then consider my post more of a general comment on french jokes.

[–] blunder@hexbear.net 22 points 1 month ago

I think it's more an artifact of Amerikkkans not being able to imagine taking a piss break without risking getting fired, with flavors of the general "har har Frenchies lost two world wars and amerikkka had to save them" despite the incredible string of Ls hanging on the neck of the burgerreich

Americans spend a lot of time being bitter that things are still quite a bit less shit in Europe for most people day to day

[–] RNAi@hexbear.net 35 points 1 month ago (2 children)

8 million visitors per year, 50 euros per ticket. And they were pulling the copper out of this money printer? Good fucking dammit

a full price ticket to the louvre is 22 euros

but yeah, pretty hilarious example of neoliberalism owning itself

[–] Biddles@hexbear.net 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Seems like not that much revenue to me tbh

[–] RNAi@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

You are right a McDonalds in Houston probably has the same revenue

Do they all have to cheat on your spouse?

[–] bobs_guns@lemmygrad.ml 24 points 1 month ago

Yes, it's mandated by law after all.

Nooo my guardians of culture, my crown jewels! wojak-nooo

[–] SoyViking@hexbear.net 46 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Call me a reactionary but I don't like stealing from museums. I'd rather have these artifacts on public display in a museum than locked away in some oligarch's secret private collection.

The heist was impressive and funny though, You've really got to hand it to them.

[–] 7bicycles@hexbear.net 56 points 1 month ago

This falls under the dudes rock clause subsection b where what you're doing is kind of shit, but it is hilarious enough that it makes up for it

[–] Posadas@hexbear.net 29 points 1 month ago

Maybe if the high class snobs interacted more with normal people, they'd of realized they were getting robbed in broad daylight.

That the guardians of culture are dogshit susie-dance

[–] Posadas@hexbear.net 59 points 1 month ago (4 children)

Anyways, have you heard about the new French Jewels exhibit being set up in the British Museum?

[–] CatoPosting@hexbear.net 19 points 1 month ago

The French weren't doing a good enough job at safekeeping it. Fair play imo. [/s]

[–] JoeByeThen@hexbear.net 15 points 1 month ago

It'd be way funnier if it was in Burkina Faso. hahaha

“Treasures of the ancient empire” in Algeria.

[–] SoyViking@hexbear.net 26 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They might have lost priceless historic artifacts but they were very budget conscious though so who can really say if they were good or bad?

[–] 7bicycles@hexbear.net 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

what if this wasn't even for money but just because some french people got very annoyed at the celebration of monarchs

[–] CatoPosting@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago

I think they'd've taken that one big fuckoff diamond then, and probably thrown it into the Seine

[–] RNAi@hexbear.net 43 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

1- The fucking Louvre in the year 2025 didn't have cameras in all of its rooms

2- Trying to imagine this robbery as something homologous happening in my country, I still couldn't care less about these jewels' "historical importance" liberty-weeping. Notre Dame caughts fire? Ok yeah that's a shame no doubt. Some fucking jewelry getting stolen (let's not even ask where those diamonds came from shall we) I couldn't care less. This is just circlejerking about France imperial peak

[–] CatoPosting@hexbear.net 33 points 1 month ago

Yeah, it'd be one thing in a jewelry museum dedicated to styles and methods of production, but its just "Look at how rich we used to be, lol we were wilding while the peasants starved"

[–] LENINSGHOSTFACEKILLA@hexbear.net 35 points 1 month ago

I have 100% used a camera, black "production" tv shirt for the same effect. Some local news affiliate branded gear also goes a very long way.

my friend and i used to keep some high vis vests in the back of his car so when we needed to make a skate spot skateable (removing skate stoppers, grinding off metal, rub bricking concrete, putting concrete down) no one would bother us. literally worked every time. people dont know what you’re doing and they see the vest and just figure you’re working on some shit

we’d be there straight up vandalizing infrastructure in the middle of a hundred people and even cops just walk by assuming you’re working

[–] LadyCajAsca@hexbear.net 25 points 1 month ago

I'd unintentionally discover a heist ecause I was going to bother the guy why they're taking away the painting away while sounding sad.
