which was that one prominent user

That was 7deadlyfetishes, an old bit poster from reddit who'd sign all his posts. I can't remember much more about him than that he was basically the embodiment of the old sub's irony poisoned detachment. Dude was a poster's icarus, posting too close to the black sun until his wax keyboard melted and he drowned in a sea of dramatic rather than rhetorical irony.

[–] WildWeezing420@hexbear.net 44 points 2 months ago (2 children)

As soon as he got banned he went to stupidpol and redscarepod subreddits and started posting chauvinist nazbol transphobic shit. Waow someone who defends US soldiers has an underlying reactionary complex

[–] KobaCumTribute@hexbear.net 34 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, that was a common problem with the old culture, just the detachment and masks of irony atop masks of irony making it impossible to get a read on who's sometimes cogent and ok and is being an aggressive, toxic ass as an ironic bit, vs who's sometimes cogent and ok but is actually just an explosive toxic asshole with an air of ironic detachment and who's one scratch away from a complete meltdown that the most scratched liberal alive could be jealous of.

7df got a lot of slack for how funny him making reddit chuds mald was, and before his meltdown I think he was mostly pretty normal here? You really can never tell who's just a chud lucid enough to wear a human mask.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 26 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Got banned for doing clean Wermecht talk and really digging in

[–] 30_to_50_Feral_PAWGs@hexbear.net 30 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It was even worse than that -- he defended concentration camp guards as just being in it for free college, never mind that they were hand-picked Nazi party loyalists

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 24 points 2 months ago

defended concentration camp guards as just being in it for free college

incredible bit if he had been clever enough to pull it off

[–] WhyEssEff@hexbear.net 26 points 2 months ago

had a hunch it was 7DF but I didn’t want to put that evil on anyone without being sure lea-think

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 25 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You say bit account, but I went on their reddit acc once and they were very much into various fetishes(no shame)

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 14 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Nobody ever listed the seven deadly fetishes though

spoilerI'm pretty proud of this one.

For those not raised on leaded hose water and arcade fighting game slop:

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

From that really long fight scene in They Live I assume Rowdy Ronnie Piper's stamina extends to other areas

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I can see how those can be deadly. You'd have to really commit to 5 though

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 13 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The only one I remember clearly from their reddit was

spoilercumflation
after that I didn't stick around to count if there were actually 7

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 19 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Even cum is susceptible to inflation and people think capitalism is the system that makes the most sense 🙄

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

it's a good job I have all these jars...

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 24 points 2 months ago

He got banned from here for doing clean Wermecht shit

[–] LENINSGHOSTFACEKILLA@hexbear.net 15 points 2 months ago (1 children)

He was still on twitter as of like, 6 ish months ago as well. It was always funny to see him pop up for a second

And here we see the mythical "South Park Communist"

All I can say is, it would be really funny if he wins

[–] duderium@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

Pretty sure Mills is going to beat him. She’s basically unstoppable even though she doesn’t do anything. Old folks love her and maine consists mostly of old folks.

[–] YEP@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I thought he became disillusioned after a couple months doing the state department security gig w blackwater, or am I mixing up my soc Dems. Idk better late than never but yea

[–] WildWeezing420@hexbear.net 24 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

disillusioned in a "they're treating me like crap, us veterans are the victims" kinda way that US vets love to do. They always center themselves and never the people they are invading and slaughtering.

To be fair to them, they grew up in and are constantly surrounded by a culture that promotes this type of self-sucking from veterans. They are constantly slobbered over, told they are perfect babies and worshipped whenever they mention they are a vet. Why wouldn't they keep pressing the button that keeps giving them treats and auto-wins every argument?

I wasn't really trying to argue, if it came off that way, I just was trying to tie it to what I remember reading a couple months ago.

This did make me go find the article i had read though.

Platner says there was the baseline stress that one might have going through traumatic experiences like war, and then there was a realization on top of that “that I did not believe in the thing that I had taken part in.”
https://zeteo.com/p/meet-the-disillusioned-veteran-who

idk I don't think he is like leading the vanguard or anything but yea he grew up in a deeply fascist society. I live in the southern us and interact with much crazier christo fascists so I'm I guess im biased/my view is warped.

edit a word

[–] WildWeezing420@hexbear.net 19 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

US baby killers are not forgiven for saying "I was exploited. I was lied to. It was stressful"

In order to be forgiven they need to renounce their actions, say it was imperialist and be deeply apologetic about the harm they have caused the actual victims. They need to not center themselves but center the people they trampled over. They need to oppose US militarism and imperialism universally.

And even if we are to forgive these bloodsoaked mercenary dogs of empire, they shouldn't become "leaders" and our elected representatives. They should quietly become rank-and-file and keep their mouth shut.

not enough tbh, they need to actually materially aid the people of the countries they invaded
none of this "well, i do mutual aid (in am*rica) now" bullshit

[–] WildWeezing420@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

I'm just giving a bare minimum level of contrition required for me to not want them executed. Succs can't even surpass that

[–] YEP@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

realization on top of that “that I did not believe in the thing that I had taken part in.”

i think i just read this part differently than you idk

[–] WildWeezing420@hexbear.net 16 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

iraq war and vietnam war vets wore this tired line into the ground with their wallowing self-pity. "I thought the war was about fighting terrorism and keeping America safe from WMDs, but I was lied to. It was all a big lie. Us veterans got a raw deal, we were exploited and tossed away". This is the primary pro-imperialist recuperated narrative for post-war hangovers by liberals.

There's never any actual contrition about the hundreds of thousands of men, women and children they murdered. They don't even mention them. America just got "tricked" into a war, it's bad because it's not actually about democracy like we thought! This type of self-excusing keeps the door completely open to the next war to depose "autocracy". What I want to hear from veterans is something along the line of "The US Military's purpose is imperialism and I am deeply sorry for being complicit in the mass murder of its victims". Until they get there they are snakes who run as radlibs and libs in electoral politics and continue their imperialist nonsense. See: Tulsi Gabbard doing this shtick, talking about how 'as a veteran' the Iraq War was a mistake and mismanaged and based on some bad actors at the political level. Remember when she was Bernie aligned and people on this very site defended her? Look at her now, head of one of Trumps' gestappos.

You need to learn to read between the lines. This type of "I'm a sad vet who was exploited" radlib is 100% always going to betray the international working class. The reason nobody on the left shits on Aaron Bushnell, despite them being in the airforce, is because they openly stated the US military was being genocidal and centered Palestinians. Even if they hadn't self-immolated, just continued protesting and organizing, they would be forgiven with that kind of stance.

can you stop trying to lecture me and implying I fell for something and am some sort of vehement defender of his.

Why are you taking my rants against a social chauvinist as a personal attack? None of this was directed at you, except an aside about how you are maybe being too naive about these people's narratives.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 7 points 2 months ago (4 children)

Wait, why don’t we like Platner?

[–] somename@hexbear.net 20 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Being a Blackwater merc is sus as hell, even if it was just for a short time. Not to say he can’t have changed his mind and regretted stuff, but I’m not seeing the unequivocal about face that would require. The fact that he’s walking back “being a communist” shows that enough.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 4 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Fair. Not to sound like a liberal here but I think not walking it back would be used against him to make him unelectable. And I mean Smedley Butler was a merc for a much longer time and saw how bullshit it was.

I want to like the guy but I do also understand we have been burned so many times before.

[–] WildWeezing420@hexbear.net 14 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Smedley Butler was not a mercenary, he was a soldier. There is a slight distinction. Not one good person has ever signed up to be an American mercenary. He doesn't even have the "patriotic idiot" alibi, he signed up for the multiple tours with the war pigs.

I wouldn't vote for Smedley Butler running as Democrat either, another radlib imperialist. But at least he wasn't a mercenary.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 4 points 2 months ago

Yeah that’s a good point too. It’s a small distinction but an important one.

[–] somename@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I think there’s a difference between being in the US military and being in a private mercenary outfit like Blackwater. Both are servants of Capital, but the military at least has large amounts of social conditioning that makes people view it as a service or calling. Then, when the reality hits, that disillusions some.

Doing tours in the military and then joining Blackwater is so much different.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 5 points 2 months ago

Yeah I agree with that. The stuff Eric Prince does makes me think everyone involved with him is the devil. I do think people can change though, but I’m wary of those people being in government definitely.

We just don’t have many voices that I agree with though. Scraping the bottom of the barrel.

[–] WildWeezing420@hexbear.net 15 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

love to glaze literal imperialist mercenaries who are sad their benefits package wasn't as good as they were promised

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 6 points 2 months ago

Fair. I get this real hard my man.

[–] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

same reason we don't like the wehrmacht

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 3 points 2 months ago

Haha okay I get it guys. Didnt know he was ex Eric Prince lackey.

[–] Keld@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

From two click from the link provided, he disavowed all the cool shit he said.
