We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

Looks like that mysterious meeting where Hegseth called in a bunch of generals was to tell them to stop being so woke.

Also Hegseth apparently wants to relax restrictions on hazing and harassment. Hey I've got an idea. The military continues to fail its recruitment quotas, let's raise the physical requirements and foster a more toxic work environment. Hopefully this will result in a more dysfunctional US military and fewer war crimes in the name of imperialism

The next phase in the Chud Civil War.

Clean Shaven Nazis v. Bearded "Norse Mythology" Enjoyers

Ooooh christofasch vs Thule, I wonder which sides o9a and 'played too much hoi' types fall in with!

[–] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 4 points 3 months ago

No, the Nazis can't be the bears.

Us commies are the bears!

Because, well, Hexbear, sure, but also, the Soviet Bear! And the way China is always represented as a panda. Usually a very huggable panda. If anyone in this mess is huggable and fluffy, it's the left.

Great, now I want a 🐼 hug. Or just a hug from a comrade wearing something fluffy. Any of you hexagonal bears want a hug?

All this hatred of “wokeness”

What is with the hatred for manners? Like why is there such a strong revolt against being a nice guy?

You could say I’m asking: What happened to civility?

[–] CitizensTyrant@hexbear.net 53 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

These chuds hate civility because it requires them to actually consider other people around them instead of being able to say or do whatever racist or ridiculous thing that pops into their little crank shacks without consequence to themselves. It's just liberalism coming to its inevitable conclusion.

[–] axont@hexbear.net 47 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

They like to rally against wokeness because it's ill-defined and nebulous and yet every single chud seems to know what it refers to. It can be anything. I'm remembering the other week when asked what prompted Trump to return the DoD's name to the Department of War, he claimed the military "went woke" after WW2.

Chuds use the term woke how libs use the term authoritarian. It means bad thing.

Civility@hexbear.net vanished when we needed them the most

There was a pretty strong reaction against marriage equality/trans acceptance in the u.s. The whole Alpha Male shit started then and only grew more and more toxic as time went on. amerikan/western masculinity was never great but got much worse when marriage equality happened. Add in the fact that people never really recovered from 2008 and thats only getting worse, you got a recipe for classic fascism. The weirmar republic was tolerant , had a vibrant LGBTQ scene, the sexual Institute (that the nazis burned all the books) etc etc and then came the extreme reaction. Capital and the cishet nuclear family are inseparable it seems.

[–] nocturnedragonite@lemmygrad.ml 19 points 3 months ago

"Woke" doesn't mean "manners", and it's really depressing that an AAVE term that used to mean something to us has been bastardized to this extent. The original context was that "woke" meant being "aware" of your place in society as a Black person. It meant that you understood that this place was not meant for you, that you are a colonized person living in a settler colony. It was the opposite of "sleep", which commonly means unaware or not conscious, another word that was interchangeable with woke.

It was white liberals who took the term that was popular amongst us and made it into a joke by claiming to be woke while engaging in performative anti-racism. The chuds caught onto this, and eventually it became a pejorative for things that chuds don't like, and apparently "civility" now.

[–] TheModerateTankie@hexbear.net 13 points 3 months ago

They used to just say "politically correct" in a condescending manner, but that has too many syllables.

[–] Keld@hexbear.net 57 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (5 children)

The secretary of war is saying they should deploy the army against the civilian population because of an "invasion from within", and proposes mechanism by which he can remove dissenters within the armed forces, and openly suggests preparing the armed forces to do battle by first killing civilians

I don't quite find this as funny as you guys I guess. The people with the nukes are dangerous, unreliable and untethered to reality.

I do wonder how much of this is a reaction to the embarrassment that was the military parade, and how much is hegseth playing Göring

[–] Sherad@lemmygrad.ml 39 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

I agree, we can make fun of their idiocy, but... this some Jakarta Method shit.

It's important to recognize the incredibly small number of coin tosses we are from rivers of blood and bodies.

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 23 points 3 months ago

I make in fun of it to cope but yeah shit's not looking good. The boomerang is arcing back to the thrower.

[–] Thordros@hexbear.net 26 points 3 months ago

If I don't laugh, I am going to scream.

[–] Wakmrow@hexbear.net 9 points 3 months ago

Anyone on the left has known about the possibility of violent repression. This isn't anything new or unexpected. You hold no lever of power, you can't stop this anyway. Might as well laugh.

[–] BarrelsBallot@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 3 months ago

Not laughing but excited to see the inventible and necessary accelerated.

[–] IceWallowCum@hexbear.net 4 points 3 months ago

I wonder why exactly they're building up so many mechanisms of repression so quickly, what this is in preparation for. A lot of users are saying fascism, which I think is basically going to be forcing the maximum amount of capital possible out of labor - austerity, cruelty, violence... I fear they'll make nazi labor camps look like a rehearsal

The military continues to fail its recruitment quotas, let's raise the physical requirements and foster a more toxic work environment. Hopefully this will result in a more dysfunctional US military and fewer war crimes in the name of imperialism

And hopefully this results in more rank n file soldiers fragging their commanders picard-excited

[–] 30_to_50_Feral_PAWGs@hexbear.net 20 points 3 months ago

RETVRN TO TRADITION guys, but it's for fragging butter bar lieutenants

[–] Speaker@hexbear.net 53 points 3 months ago

I am completely living for Trump's rambling and "there's two n-words, and you can't use either of them" regarding nuclear subs. The man's brain is 70% gazpacho, what is this timeline?

[–] peeonyou@hexbear.net 48 points 3 months ago (4 children)

This was far less ominous than I expected. I expected some declaration of war or that they need to be prepping hard for war.

[–] ChaosMaterialist@hexbear.net 49 points 3 months ago (4 children)

I expected a purge. This is unexpectedly the funniest shit I've read all week!

[–] Cysioland@lemmygrad.ml 35 points 3 months ago

yeah, I can't believe that I'm saying that Mr Hegseth pleasantly surprised me

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 31 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Imagining Trump doing the Saddam thing where he reads off a list of purged individuals while they're all in the audience.

[–] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 8 points 3 months ago

Honestly, that's bloody hilarious no matter who does it. For different reasons, for sure, but funny in almost every case.

[–] regul@hexbear.net 28 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I expected a loyalty oath.

[–] The_hypnic_jerk@hexbear.net 30 points 3 months ago

There kind of was, there was a threat of fall in line or get fired

[–] Keld@hexbear.net 14 points 3 months ago

This is clearly setting that up though.

[–] Test_Tickles@hexbear.net 34 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (2 children)

this can't be the sole purpose for this gathering, right? this must be a cover for some closed door types of meetings, right? if not, then America continues to surprise me at how stupid it really is

[–] Lussy@hexbear.net 29 points 3 months ago

Another one of those moments where it’s so dumb we all expect there to be an alterior motive

[–] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 3 months ago

Definitely nefarious shit going on in the background

[–] SeizeTheBeans@hexbear.net 25 points 3 months ago (1 children)

President Donald Trump is proposing using American cities as training grounds for the armed forces. He's suggesting U.S. military might be deployed against what he describes as the “invasion from within.”

Sounds pretty fuckin' ominous to me.

[–] peeonyou@hexbear.net 2 points 3 months ago

woops i did not see that

[–] Self_Sealing_Stem_Bolt@hexbear.net 25 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Well, he also told a room full of seniors that have been at a desk for years that he was bringing back fitness requirements for generals lmao.

[–] Keld@hexbear.net 20 points 3 months ago

If that is anything and isnt just stopped for being stupid it will be selectively used against any senior officer who doesn't fall in line.

[–] fossilesque@mander.xyz 40 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

critical support to herr hegseth for defeating the army of the great colonial empire, i guess

[–] CommCat@hexbear.net 35 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (2 children)

This might be a distraction, I just read that another big fleet of tankers have flown to the Middle East (flight data tracking). The last time a big fleet of US tankers flew to the Middle East was preparation for the recent bombing of Iran.

edit: yesterday Netanyahu called the Qatar PM to apologize for the recent bombing of Doha, and now a huge fleet of US tankers (which means fighters and bombers are also heading there) are assembling in Qatar US airbase. Hope Iran is better prepared this time around to protect their generals and scientists, and ffs stop using Western mobile devices...

[–] john_brown@hexbear.net 31 points 3 months ago

It's probably a distraction for hegseth since he lost a naval battle with ansarallah, notably without a navy. Gotta keep him busy while the next military action gets planned by the cabinet

[–] fossilesque@mander.xyz 3 points 3 months ago

Sources pls.

[–] Dotcom@lemmy.ml 33 points 3 months ago

Make America Frag again 😎

[–] FnordPrefect@hexbear.net 28 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Alas, probably more at the 'do pushups' part than the 'hunt US citizens' part, but what I imagine is going through the head of every general etc. that got forced to travel around the world for this: https://youtu.be/HS0eIBb6em4

Whatever man, shit's boring, where's the pizza hut at??

[–] nefertum@hexbear.net 13 points 3 months ago

I always thought the US government and military was pathetic but wow they really went full pathetic

[–] Euergetes@hexbear.net 12 points 3 months ago

are they all going to go into a different room and plan an attack somewhere? look at this empire bro

[–] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 9 points 3 months ago

How much pizza did the Department of War order this time?

[–] kleeon@hexbear.net 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

next meeting is going to be about finding the boogeyman

[–] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

They might as well put a wooden Joseph McCarthy on puppet strings and scream about communists and Soviet spies. Like they all actually want to when they say "woke leftists". Just go mask off about being stuck in the Cold War.
