Let me quote Hitler's Mein Kampf to you to make my point.

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 16 points 5 days ago

I know that when I'm trying to convince people of the veracity of my argument, I pull from the Nazi Manifesto and cite it

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 56 points 5 days ago (3 children)

"Perpetually constant"

Hitler was so well spoken, that must be how he cast a spell over Germany to force everyone there to be racist.

[–] Edie@hexbear.net 38 points 5 days ago

A number of translators have commented on the poor quality of Hitler's use of language in writing Mein Kampf. Olivier Mannoni, who translated the 2021 French critical edition, said about the original German text that it was "An incoherent soup, one could become half-mad translating it", and said that previous translations had corrected the language, giving the false impression that Hitler was a "cultured man" with "coherent and grammatically correct reasoning". He added "To me, making this text elegant is a crime."

"Perpetually constant and regular" is likely the result of translation here. I'm not going to pull up the original text cuz fuck it, but in this case it likely is -perpetual as in continuous without breaks -constant as in staying around a similar level -regular as in normalized

Could just be bad writing as well, I don't care to check. Bit often meaning gets lost in translation

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 8 points 5 days ago

i wonder if that's a regular as in organized, like the american second amendment uses it.

[–] huf@hexbear.net 10 points 5 days ago

someone's eating enough fiber...

[–] Andrzej3K@hexbear.net 45 points 5 days ago (1 children)

So, did JK...

  1. ... read Mein Kampf and underline that bit when she got to it
  2. ... search the internet for Hitler quotes to support her position
  3. ... see the quote on a deep-fried Facebook jpg
[–] DerEwigeAtheist@hexbear.net 39 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I mean, she is friends with people(terfs) that keep citing Hitler, so she probably learnt from them.

I guess it wouldn't be facebook, and more an in-person terf meeting of some kind, but yeah.

Great man theory and all that but JK genuinely is the nexus of the terf movement and the funding source of half of it. It genuinely would collapse if she got Kirked.

The original engagement map for terf tweets is gone now but these posts still show it:

It maps this way because she is genuinely leading it all.

She is right to be scared. I would be. Kirk's death will have a low impact whereas hers would actually genuinely impact something.

The international reaction would be a fucking mess though and British politics would become a disaster over it.

This shit is so tiring. Any time anyone does anything it's fascism to people who don't know what fascism is.

You see it in any liberal essay about the "similarities" between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, which is always just: "they both employed secret police and they both imprisoned political opponents", charges that can be levied against just about any large government since the 19th century because those are the tools that large modern governments have access to. What matters is to what end those tools were employed - the Nazis subjugated millions, while the Soviets liberated millions, which is a big fucking difference.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 21 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

"they both employed secret police and they both imprisoned political opponents",

Do the exact same policing in the open and it's all good though!

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 21 points 5 days ago (1 children)

(but we also have the secret police too)

[–] fannin@hexbear.net 21 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I had a right wing lib once try to tell me the FBI aren't actually secret police despite their operations being classified information.

[–] ThermonuclearEgg@hexbear.net 18 points 5 days ago (1 children)

(also ICE are also even more blatantly secret police)

[–] fannin@hexbear.net 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I don't know anything about ICE unfortunately.

[–] ThermonuclearEgg@hexbear.net 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)
[–] fannin@hexbear.net 2 points 3 days ago

Should clarify, I know what they do, I just meant I don’t know anything about how they operate internally

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 12 points 5 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

They say it about revolutions, too, as if the Soviets and China were uniquely bad for purging their enemies after their respective civil wars. The US chased all the British supporters out of the country and the ones they could catch were tarred + feathered, drawn + quartered, or hanged. The French decapitated people by the hundreds. Charles I was executed at the end of the English Civil War. The only reason there weren't purges in Japan after the Satsuma Rebellion was because the rebels were all killed down to the last man in battle and the ones who weren't committed seppuku.

China sending the former Emperor to be re-educated was mild in comparison while the Soviets were incredibly restrained when dealing with their royal family.

Ok JK but you didn't answer the question. Do you include Hitler in that?

[–] moss_icon@hexbear.net 26 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Let me guess: she did not know trans people were part of the Nazi victim list and when called out she doubled down and had a crash out?

[–] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 15 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

kinda, she was calling trans people burning her books nazis and someone pointed out to her that the big nazi book burning was of trans literature and science

[–] Dessa@hexbear.net 38 points 5 days ago (1 children)

To believe that free speech is a privilege for you alone: This is aform of illiberalism

To believe so firmly that no fact could sway you: This is another form of illiberalism

To believe the state should enforce your point of view with the full force of violence: This is another form of Illiberalism.

This might be controversial but this is what happens when a society turns its pop culture personalities into sheikhs of its ideological consensus. A person who should have zero authority on any matter political or cultural can issue fatwas about this or that politic or throw around their wealth made from popular movies into whatever causes they wish. Movies are such a mediocre medium too to be given such legitimacy.
