hey remember when this guy pushed the Chinese lab leak theory during a wave of anti-Asian violence

[–] huf@hexbear.net 6 points 23 hours ago

hey remember when he gave a medal to an azovite?

[–] SmithrunHills@hexbear.net 44 points 1 day ago (4 children)

iirc john oliver also pushed the "uyghur genocide" narrative and even interviewed the dalai lama so honestly we should just cut all these shows right off

[–] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 43 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I can't say this enough but John Oliver is straight up controlled opposition. Every show (haven't watched since sometime before COVID but I can almost guarantee his schtick is the same) is him going over one of capitalism's many failings/success stories (depending on where you fall in the class structure) and redirecting any potential thoughts about addressing the systemic issues into blaming one guy/family/org. They're the problem, not the system that allows them to perpetuate the abuse and exploitation.

He's literally married to a Republican veteran who was working for Pete Hegseth when they met. Dude has mentioned how he can't win any arguments with her since she just uses the "I'm a troop, you're just a comedian" card on him lmao

this sounds like a joke

Maybe, but he's still willing to cede the moral high ground to a Republican activist who participated in the invasion of Iraq. Like I said before, he's never against capitalism or the american imperial project itself, he just wants it to have better optics.

someone who has fought a war

WHAT WAS SHE DOING IN THAT WAR YOU INSUFFERABLE DIPSHIT big-honk

[–] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 1 day ago

even serial killers don't lose the moral high ground to a yankee troop
especially one that works in war-criminal rights

[–] Cat_Daddy@hexbear.net 17 points 1 day ago

Yeah, John Oliver is ick

[–] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago

He also did a ”Vuvuzela bad” episode and one on Taiwan too.

[–] Tormato@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago

Also came after Jill Stein, after Bernie was conspiratorially cheated out of the Dem nomination in ‘16.

Total douche punching down.

[–] CarmineCatboy2@hexbear.net 19 points 1 day ago

Americans love their celebrity culture and celebrity presidents so much they decide that licking the taint of these washed up imperialist propagandists masquerading as "comedians" is the bravest form of activism known to date. Never mind that these people have literally contributed next to nothing in regards to actually improving the material conditions of anyone while normalizing western chauvinism against China, North Korea, and other AES states in a way that's digestible and palatable to libs who want to appear more woke and radical than they're ever comfortable with. Let's not ever forget that ALL OF THEM have either ignored the genocide that their country is directly aiding or, in the case of John Oliver, peddled liberal zionist brainworms condemning the only fucking resistance to the genocide that's present. I'm fairly certain he was wishy washy about it being a genocide as well, and only did so once Trump was elected(though I could be wrong on that, I'm not watching another second of that trash more than I regrettably have)

The day these ghouls get taken off the air and their shitty shows exposed and mocked for the thinly-veiled propaganda they are is the day the world starts to heal

[–] JoeByeThen@hexbear.net 71 points 1 day ago

anakin-padme-1 Yay, the comedian will save us by giving us a piece of his mind and making us laugh at fascism!

anakin-padme-2 And then encouraging the people to organize and rise up against the fascism?

Trump should just ban all late night shows tbh, it's always the unfunniest shit in existence.

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Or he could force the networks to have new hosts...

  • ABC Late Nite Scott Baio with Trump
  • CBS Late Nite Ted Nugent with Trump
  • NBC Late Nite Kid Rock with Trump
  • [Etc with Trump]

Trump never actually appears on any show. But sometimes his AI does.

Plus, like, who even has cable anymore? It's like if a newspaper columnist got banned. Um, ok? Who has read anything by them in the last decade?

[–] Orcocracy@hexbear.net 18 points 1 day ago

The people who are powerful and in charge.

I started dissociating and imagined Thomas Friedman being led to the gallows by JD Vance in an American flag three-piece suit

[–] Saymaz@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 1 day ago

The only way I found out two white rich talkshow hosts got their shows axxed was through the internet.

The most libbed up thing he could do is repeat the same monologue as Kimmel and then be escorted off-set by ICE for being too Irish.
