For a long time I was confused by two seemingly separate pieces of information.

  1. The majority of people I seem to interact with seem to act like communications are effortless. "Just pick up the phone". "It's just an email".

  2. Most communications I get are terrible. Like, the number of times I need to restrain myself from typing "as I mentioned in the email below" is insane, or how often I send an email with a bulleted list of issues that need to be addressed and the response only addresses a fraction of them while the rest are ignores.

Then I realized that most people are stupid, casual, and oblivious. They put very little effort into communications, so while they seem so easy and effortless they are harming the quality of that communication.

Average neurodivergent-neurotypical interaction:

I always say: if it’s worth doing a half assed job, it’s worth stressing out about for days

To your second point:

how often I send an email with a bulleted list of issues that need to be addressed and the response only addresses a fraction of them while the rest are ignores.

I typically will reply with just the bulleted points they didn't address and then keep sending it with less and less bullets until either they answer all points or stop replying... after the third or fourth reminder email. I make sure the previous emails are in the string and never change the title.

Which is why I just call in a meeting. Yes im one of those people. It's just easier to get things done by putting people in the spot.

One of the most common problems with communication is that many people believe it is easy. There is a reason professional communication courses exist

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 16 points 2 days ago

this is a good point. people don't think about it, so it doesn't bother them

This applies to so many facets of life. It is only hard if you care. Like parenting.

I like how in the old comics they'd give the superhero some weakness that would negate their powers.

For Green Lantern it was the color yellow. For the Martian Manhunter it was fire. For Wonder Woman it was being tied up.*

*Wasn't sure if I remembered it right so I did a search. Over a million entries for 'Wonder Woman tied up.' Lotta comic fans out there.

I turned the "safe search" filter off so I can really get all the answers.

From my research, it appears that being tied up and naked is her weakness. She seems to be in a lot of distress, so much so they typically have to use some sort of gag in her mouth to prevent her screams of agony.

Sometimes the villains incorporate machines with wands on the end? Not sure if that is part of the process? More research is required.

WWs creator was a fairly well known bondage enthusiast. It's not a secret, the only mystery is why DC decided to make it a part of her canon lore, even to this day.

She also has a lasso, so she's not the only one in her stories to get tied up.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

I don't know, that kind of makes her cooler to me. She's always been kinda like "the girly Superman" to me (I know, I know, Supergirl, etc...). She's just...bleh. Boring. But I was always an X-Men and Batman kid. And The Tick!

Do not compare your vs others ability when you're operating with a different set of tools.

Starting a fire with a hand drill is a much bigger job than with a blow torch.

When there was only one set of footprints in the sand its because you were strong enough to walk alone

[–] FateOfTheCrow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 36 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Or it's because they walk single-file to hide their numbers.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

And these blast marks, too accurate for sand people. Only Imperial Stormtroopers are so precise.

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Maybe one of them was Good King Wenceslas.

I'm one of God's weak soldiers and I relate, although I'm sure He wouldn't mock our weakness, lol. This is why it's important to be empathetic and have a softer approach to people as much as we can afford it!

[–] onslaught545@lemmy.zip 16 points 2 days ago

Mocking our weakness would be very on brand for the abrahamic god.

[–] EtherWhack@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

Just like asking someone with a walker to run around the block.

Every man and every woman is a star. Every number is infinite; there is no difference.
