He raped one of his wives and used the legal defense of "I can't rape my own property" and got off...

Rudy was his lawyer, this was decades ago

I dont know why people keep acting surprised at old news

[–] joekar1990@lemmy.world 25 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I think the surprise is how much he's done and has constantly faced zero actual consequences.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago

Everyday someone is surprised hippos kill more people in Africa than lions...

Because they're ignorant of how dangerous hippos are, not because new information comes out.

This is literally Trump's second term, if you're just now surprised how bad he is...

At best you just started paying attention, most likely tho you're still not paying enough.

Rep. Gwen Moore, a Democrat from Wisconsin who has championed legislative efforts against domestic violence, said such crimes amount to “abuse that devastates families, endangers women and children, and takes lives every single day.”

“As a survivor of domestic violence, I found President Trump’s comments today downplaying domestic violence deeply offensive and disturbing,” she said in a statement. “Trump has a long history of violence against women that makes his dismissiveness unsurprising.”

That was the one result I got when I ctrl-f'd for "surpris" in this article. Just because it's a completely predictable display of misogyny and ignorance by religious fundamentalists and the orange asshole doesn't mean it shouldn't be called out by decent people as the evil shit it is.

That was the one result I got when I ctrl-f’d for “surpris” in this article

Was the word:

unsurprising

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago

used the legal defense of “I can’t rape my own property” and got off

He pressured her and she didn't pursue charges. And I'm not sure "got off" is a good phrase to use in this context.

[–] gi1242@lemmy.world 71 points 1 month ago (2 children)

he mocked a disabled reporter back in 2016. to anyone else it would have been career ending. but it just made trump more and more powerful. just like the the hot mic, felony convictions, Epstein ties, fraud, etc.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 33 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I often think that if a such thing as the antichrist were to exist, how the fuck is it not trump. He gets people on board with evil like no one in recent memory

[–] XeroxCool@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago

He mocked McCain for his war-related arm disabilities. For the voter base, that should have been the end of it.

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 37 points 1 month ago

Trump is a scumbag and everyone who supports him is either a scumbag, too, or a fool. None of them should be allowed to have any power.

It's an error to try to appeal to trump supporter's reason. They are drunk on the high of in-group belonging. You don't reason with a drunk person about why screaming "mr brightside" while half naked in the middle of the highway a bad idea. You make him stop.

He yanked some of Ivana's hair from her scalp and raped her. He doesn't think he was wrong to do that. Justice would be torturing him to death.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Source on that? Not that I don't believe you, it's the Cheeto, but I'd like to see that supported with a citation at leadt

[–] weariedfae@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago

An interview with Ivana in a 1993 book called The Lost Tycoon

Republicans: 😁👍 Fuck yeah, we voted for this!

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 month ago (5 children)

The psychology of Republican men is kind of obvious, but the women who want this are harder to understand.

[–] Adderbox76@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 month ago

Their god has made them believe for centuries now that it is their place to serve their husband. Replublican men marry women who will vote how they tell her to because religiously, she's nothing but chattel.

[–] dmention7@midwest.social 6 points 1 month ago

I don't know man, there's a depressingly large number of women who--due to low self esteem or related issues--embrace tons of this toxic masculinity shit because it makes them feel more valuable to the shitbags who spew it.

I personally don't care for the phrase because it feels a bit misogynistic, but "pick-me girl" is a common word for it.

[–] don@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 month ago

Indoctrination and brainwashing certainly play a role, at least, not to mention other probable psychological factors.

Trad wife mentality

[–] whiwake@lemmy.cafe 17 points 1 month ago (1 children)

We know he beats his mail order bride

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He couldn't beat an egg, he's such a blob of flab.

[–] whiwake@lemmy.cafe 1 points 1 month ago

He beats her with his titties. Whop whop.

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I know Trump’s whole second term is about absolving himself of all his past crimes and heinous acts, but this does raise an interesting question. Is he A-B testing decriminalizing domestic abuse, or is he going whole hog for decriminalizing rape?

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I mean, if it's good, natural human behavior that reinforces the realities of human interactions and behaviors. It's a good thing.

I don't think they're justifying as much as just being a bit more honest about life.

President Trump speaks at the Museum of the Bible

So there they show all the raping, pillaging, incest, slavery, and mass murders?

Awesome, where can I see this?

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 month ago

Yeah the legalize minor spousal abuse movement is really gaining legs. What a time to be alive.

[–] MyOpinion@lemmy.today 9 points 1 month ago

The abuser and chief at it again. Being a republican means you have abuser supporter on your name tag.

[–] Jaysyn@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

A wife beater would say that.

[–] RotatingParts@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It would be great if everyone realized how controlling religion is. Hopefully this one wakes up women to this ... but I doubt it :(

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I think religion does cause harm in a variety of ways, but it's overly simplistic to think it would cause people to be awful on its own. I'm pretty sure the usual case is that it's a convenient excuse for people who already wanted to do evil shit

[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Yeah, I'm anything but religious myself but I have met way too many people who describe themselves as deeply religious volunteering at food pantries and homelessness outreach orgs to think it's entirely negative. If some magical thinking motivates you to do good in the world I don't have a problem with it.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

If a man has a little fight with his wife and leaves her with a black eye and broken ribs, they call it a crime!

Pussies.

Well you know what? Let's go with this. Let's do it like in the old days. Next time a husband has a little fight with his wife, his wife can bring someone to do the fight for her and beat the shit out of him, that's not a crime, it's just a little fight.

If not that, next up what will happen (yet again) is that these husbands misteriously die, do you want that?

[–] matdave@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 month ago

Or their dongs fall off... cus they do that sometimes.

[–] teawrecks@sopuli.xyz 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Museum of the Bible

Whoever named that place gave zero shits lol

[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Oh for sure, and it's not even a particularly good name. Like, "Hobby Lobby smuggling scandal" really roles off the tongue, but "museum of the Bible"? Boring and basic.

[–] Marshezezz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 month ago

He also rapes children so who is surprised

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 2 points 1 month ago

What do you tell a president with two black eyes?

Nothing; you already told them twice.

[–] DicJacobus@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

It might have been reversed recentley, but very recentley Domestic abuse was basically allowed in Russia, Police rarely responded to calls from women saying their partners were beating the hell out of them, some ended up dead.

and the law that allowed it, was pushed by a "traditional values" Woman lawmaker.

America is Just going to become Russia that speaks English.
