Our Just & Honorable Security System, Their Wicked Surveillance State

[–] aanes_appreciator@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago

Most evergreen cartoon of all time.

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 67 points 2 weeks ago

smug-explain It's not a police state, it's just a security mandate, not like those perfidious red Chinese

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 53 points 2 weeks ago

"So they think they can address the root causes of crime in the US or is it just another form of mass surveillance again"

"Mass surveillance again"

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 50 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

so-true Chinese concentration camps are all about authoritarian reeducation, the brand new ICE concentration camps are about turning us into better Americans with job skills and a thorough political education!

[–] TreadOnMe@hexbear.net 26 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Imagine getting jobs training at an ICE camp.

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 24 points 2 weeks ago

In this hypothetical, "job training" is a euphamism for "being paid fifty cents an hour to make military uniforms".

[–] roux@hexbear.net 45 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

To think that synapses in that dude's brain had to fire off to create such a troglodyte ass comment. Fucking knuckle draggers.

Much like how cells deprived of oxygen or nutrients will find alternate pathways to accomplish their functions, a mind deprived of a materialist heuristic will resort to this baby brained good-guy-bad-guy shit to fufill the function of creating a mental model of the world.

[–] hector@lemmy.today 8 points 2 weeks ago

It did not take much thinking on his part, they have been making this argument my entire life. Anytime you are trying to improve something in this country they will angrily tell you how much worse people have it in other countries and how lucky you are to live here.

Until they get their way that is and make here like there.

Like at this point they're just becoming smug toddlers, whenever you point out the indefensibly destructive shit we're doing on all fronts you're just met with "You mean CHINA?smuglord"

"Hey this omnicidal empire is fucking up the vibes pretty hard"

"Um, have you considered that we're good and they're bad?"

METAPHYSICS IS THE EASIEST THING IN THE WORLD METAPHYSICS IS THE EASIEST THING IN THE WORLD METAPHYSICS IS THE EASIEST THING IN THE WORLD

[–] Nacarbac@hexbear.net 15 points 2 weeks ago

It's just Occam's Razor innit. Metaphysics is simple, therefore gotta be correct.

Anyway I'm off to the ideology factory, the idea of those levers pulling themselves won't happen by itself. I think?

still not a single drone assasination on usa soil, truly remarkably pliant society

[–] TrustedFeline@hexbear.net 32 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Not a drone, but in 2016:Robot-delivered lethal explosive in Dallas police standoff was a first, experts say

Unable to subdue the suspect without compromising their safety, police decided to end the standoff by attaching explosives to a bomb robot and detonating them near the suspect.

And there was the time in 1985 Philly police dropped bombs from a helicopter. So police have killed with robots and they've killed with aerial bombardment. Only a matter of time before local PD start authorizing drone strikes.

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 26 points 2 weeks ago

Oh cops absolutely do it, cartels as well (although i think only inside central/south america). I meant non-state side

[–] hector@lemmy.today 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The army dropped bombs on coal mining strikers at one point as well, I forget the details.

The unionization of coal mining was perhaps the most violent of all of the unionizations. The bosses sponsored a lot of killing and everything else.

Battle of Blair Mountain

[–] glimmer_twin@hexbear.net 11 points 2 weeks ago

Just commenting to add the battle of Blair mountain to this list as well. You know they would’ve been using drones on those workers if they had em.

[–] hector@lemmy.today 7 points 2 weeks ago

Not that we know about. They did just test their new Homeland Security drones in New Jersey though so I would not expect that will continue to hold.

[–] Newsteinleo@midwest.social 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

[–] D61@hexbear.net 6 points 2 weeks ago

[–] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 31 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 26 points 2 weeks ago

If we kill everyone in the world, there will be no more crimethink-about-it

[–] Lemmygradwontallowme@hexbear.net 22 points 2 weeks ago

War is peace, and defeat is victory, under the eyes of the right.

[–] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 13 points 2 weeks ago

No you don't understand, they do it Chinese style, very scary stuff, American cops on the other hand are notoriously kind

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 12 points 2 weeks ago

"Big companies and the government infringing on everyone's freedoms and privacy actually makes us all freer and safer, not less. I am very intelligent." smuglord

Pretending devout Christians like Gary Tan have good judgement about anything.

[–] sefra1@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

So finally the surveillance drones (and latter the killer drone mod) they had in Dark Angel is becoming real.
