Just thinking today based on the recent news of well, the past 6-months, that we're headed in a pretty dire direction. We're not even one year into Trump and things have already accelerated to the point we are at today. The only silver lining I see here is that the usa has fucked off from abusing the global south and China has stepped in to steer the non-fascism aligned world in a good direction. Great, but I have a sinking feeling for the rest of us poor stuck in this shithole.

I've said repeatedly that I expect mass graves in the US before this is all over.

I assume that sounds like hyperbole, but I'm 100% serious.

[–] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 42 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (2 children)

Mass graves are baked in to the fabric of America. It's barely hyperbole to say mass graves are foundational to the US (and all settler states).

Unbearably evil and diseased land

JB-shining-aggro I, John Brown, am now quite certain that the crimes of this guilty land will never be purged away but with blood

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 34 points 3 months ago

There will probably be crisis at some point, hopefully the working class can coalesce around a vanguard and actually manage to kill the US before it kills all of us. Full support to PSL, FRSO, Chunka Luta, and all other orgs doing their best right now.

[–] Dirt_Possum@hexbear.net 12 points 3 months ago

Already happened. In addition to what FALGSConaut said, there were mass graves being dug for covid victims during times of peak die-off rates:
Lost in the Pandemic: Inside New York City’s Mass Graveyard on Hart Island
"A Tenth of N.Y.C.'s Covid Dead May Be in Mass Graves on Hart Island" (Archive link)
Sorry for the lib sources, but even they recognize it. Well, they did back when they still believed covid was real.

I hear you though, it's something that we're likely to see a lot more of and for a variety of other and more heinous reasons.

i am lucky to "own" (rent from the bank for x years) property and a little house and even if i wanted to take people in the laws are set up so i could do at most 2 legally

in theory 10 RVs could easily park on my property and connect to utilities and we could make a mini commune since it's my property

but lol nope there are municipal codes and we would be raided, fined, a lien put on and all kicked out to face criminal homelessness. i looked into this. people still do it, but you better be deep in the woods.

(lol property rights in the U.S. there are none)

every avenue is being cut off. i fear going to the doctor because i fear bankrupcy, not the doctor. i feel being disabled more then being dead because i know it's a fate worse then death now. i fear old age because i just see it as a period of helpless suffering, easy prey to whatever predators come for us, not old age itself

everything is just under the surface waiting to bubble up and we are so fucking atomized and alienated.

I think the redistricting fight happening between red and blue states could escalate to breakup. We saw some of the cracks appear during COVID with the regional pandemic response networks, this is another step towards disintegration of the so-called union.

[–] GoodGuyWithACat@hexbear.net 29 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Only if the Supreme Court shuts down CA's redistricting but allows Texas's. Which is possible.

it's been barbarism

[–] axont@hexbear.net 29 points 3 months ago

I mean it already is and has been for a long time. America is already a dictatorial fascist hell state if you're homeless, or in prison, or a poor black single mother, or an undocumented migrant worker, or even sometimes a documented migrant worker who has their passport being held ransom by their employer

America is all about compartmentalizing the sectors of society and what kind of treatment they get

[–] Wakmrow@hexbear.net 28 points 3 months ago

Yeah. Buy guns.

[–] BodyBySisyphus@hexbear.net 28 points 3 months ago (1 children)

After Katrina, the news was full of stories of riots and looting, but the reality on the ground was that people were coming together to help each other out. Fascism needs state power and elite support to remain appealing; once that crumbles, the ones who survive are the ones who are capable of mutual support and cooperation. The crumbling's gonna suck, but as everyone else is pointing out, things already suck.

[–] Dirt_Possum@hexbear.net 15 points 3 months ago (1 children)

This is the antidote to depression-spiraling I needed to hear, thank you. And it is so right. No matter how bad it gets, hell even the worse it gets, the more people are going to need to turn to something that provides real help and provides relief from the "dog-eat-dog," hyper-atomised, individualistic selfishness of this wheezing, cancer-riddled empire.

The fascists may be able to pretend to provide that at first, but the contradictions inherent within their ideology and in their very ability to maintain a sustained group that doesn't start eating itself are going to be intensifying along with the crumbling empire. They can project all the power for a while, but over time, they can't last. It will be the groups led by communists that will survive. And I don't even mean full on, theory-reading ideologically self-proclaimed commies like us (though any group with such leaders who are well read in communist theory are going to have a very big leg up in being able to get things up and working and sustained), but even the groups that rediscover the wheel and turn to communist-style organizing, resource allocation, and commitment to finding out what actually works, will still effectively become communist out of necessity. I would bet there will be a kind of Darwinian selection of groups (organizations at different scales that have the apparatus to provide the kind of help that a community and even a state should provide) where the ones that survive and thrive are simply those that can provide what people actually need. It will be the groups most opposed to the fascism that is making the world all the more hellish and unlivable, opposed to the fascism that caused the rot in the first place, who will be the best equipped and able to truly help people and provide material circumstances that make for a life worth living.

Going to be?

[–] LangleyDominos@hexbear.net 21 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Trump builds an increasingly large MZ around DC for the next few months. He then gets with red state governors and have them do the same in their states, targeting the most liberal cities. Then he ramps up the policy changes and rolls back a lot of established protections. There are massive protests in CA but few elsewhere. He personally gets involved in the NYC mayoral race to ensure Cuomo. Next year is NY's gubernatorial election so that's another election to fix. Then it's all on Gavin Newscum who, for some reason, simply keeps tweeting like Trump. Supreme Court forces CA to redraw their districts "fairly", neutering Newsome.

After that it's just sailing until the next election, working on pet projects. Most federal functions are given to his buddies. Privatized federal police. Reducing the ability for states to change the constitution. Eliminating more regulatory bodies. Protests are impotent and quelled almost immediately. Local cops gain federal immunity from crimes while on the job. We may even get some suspicious political murders like Newsome having an unexpected death with little investigation.

When the next federal election comes up, Trump runs again and uses constitutional justification for serving more terms. Supreme Court allows it. Kamala runs for Democrats and calls Trump a fascist at every opportunity. Palantir is tapped to do voting machines. Trump wins in a landslide. One of the Dem senators says Trump rigged the election. The senator is arrested for treason.

The line continues to go up. Economists are baffled but investors are happy. Deregulation and reduced competition has let Mag 7 reach unbelievable heights, boosting the S&P and forming the first megacorps. We make a lot of cyberpunk memes while dooming.

During this whole time not one person except for internet randos mentions Epstein.

This place is not just cooked it is burned and smoking

Obviously trump is steering us into a wall. We will have a 4 year intermission if we are lucky and then they'll draw the conclusion of we need to be more fascist. And not to be all Mueller she wrote about it but there is a long term angle on locking down/militarizing DC

I can't afford a sidearm and I'm never gonna make it out of this shithole to South America in time. On a good note, I've carefully assembled a backpack-portable 1-man campsite with everything needed, but chances are I'll lose that in the first week or it won't matter much since I currently live in a city and have no realistic chance of moving to a more rural area with ample woods to hide in any time soon. And even in that scenario, I starve. I've been slowly working on my skill at growing vegetables for years but I'm nowhere near where I need to be to support my own caloric intake. At best I'm currently at the "can grow food to prevent shit like scurvy and beriberi" level.

[–] gayspacemarxist@hexbear.net 19 points 3 months ago (1 children)

You should get involved in a radical organization of some kind. None of us is going to make it on our own.

[–] ThorrJo@lemmy.sdf.org 17 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I'd love to, unfortunately I'm stuck in a catch-22 in that the place where I live keeps me in chronic sensory & social burnout.

meanwhile I tried to get my local friends to do literally anything at all, including just get together and talk over food about practical steps, several times since Trump got elected and the conclusion I came to is that they, like the vast majority of Americans, have one primary aim in life: namely, to not change anything they are doing by the width of a single atom, for any reason whatsoever. The most radical ones occasionally wish Bernie and AOC would team up and do something they could nod at from afar. It's fucking bleak.

Imperialists have been engaging in Rosa's barbarism since before she repeated the phrase. It has just been largely exported to other counteies and normalized by liberalism. Hundreds of millions die every decade from this, from capitalist deprivation, from "failed states" created by imperialists, from "targeted sanctions" of entire nations of mostly children. There is a chauvinism in the phrase, as it is really about the homeward visitation of these exported depravities, that "civilization" (Europe) will fall apart due to the destructive nature of advancing capitalism.

The struggle today is virtually the same as it was back then, albeit with material changes to how different nations' economies have developed. The "service" and "consumer" economies, the rise of China. Europe saw two massive wars inside itself due to capitalism, it did the barbarism already, and capitalism moved on to punch at everything opposed to it for the next century, destroying European socialism and relegating various countries to isolation and poverty. Wr are in the barbarism, we are fighting against it and have, globally, been doing so for about four centuries.

barbarism abroad, barbarism at home

[–] Bronstein_Tardigrade@lemmygrad.ml 14 points 3 months ago

The current situation is only coming as a shock to those who haven't been paying attention. The disUS has been heading down the fascist-oligarchy road for decades. Any platform for those issuing warnings was removed with the passage of the Telecom Act of 1994 that opened the floodgates for billionaire/corporate takeover of entire media markets and control of the newly bourgeoning internet.

[–] sad_detective_man@leminal.space 12 points 3 months ago

can you afford a gun and would you be at risk of using it on yourself?

If you can and you aren't, then strap up. They're counting on you being unarmed and not looking out for your neighbors.
