"destroying the world's largest labubu" sounds like a mrbeast video

[–] ElcaineVolta@kbin.melroy.org 15 points 4 weeks ago

from wikipedia

In ancient Mesopotamian religion, Pazuzu is a demonic deity who was well known to the Babylonians and Assyrians throughout the first millennium BCE.... He was usually regarded as evil, but he could also sometimes be a beneficent entity who protected against winds bearing pestilence and he was thought to be able to force the demoness Lamashtu, his rival, back to the underworld. Amulets bearing his image were positioned in dwellings to protect infants from Lamashtu and pregnant women frequently wore amulets with his head on them as protection from her. As an apotropaic entity, he is considered as both a personification of a destructive and dangerous wind, but also as a repellant to other demons, one who safeguards the home from their influence.

sounds like he's not so bad

if you go to the URL on the poster you'll see that this is actually marketing for a cryptocurrency grift: their token, issued this week, is "trading" at just $0.00014545 and has 999.95M units "circulating", which gives it a "market cap" of a whopping $146k 🤑🤑🤑!!1one

(for anyone unclear on what this means)most, hopefully all, of the 118 "holders" of this "asset" are of course actually the issuer of it, who is "trading" it with themself for the purpose of tricking other people into believing that a "market" for it exists so that they will give them money for it.

i recommend deleting this post.

Uhhh, would it be sufficient for me to put a CW on it cuz I still think it's funny

[–] cypherpunks@lemmy.ml 6 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

i also found it funny (and far enough in to poe's law territory that i had to check the site to figure out what category it was in... crypto scam was not one of my expectations)

I was half expecting it to link to Big Money Salvia's merch page. Seems like a bit he'd pull.

Oh those "thotties" you follow? Succubus.

Look I'm trying to give up hardcore porn so excuse me if I have to gawk at a goth lady in a bikini now and again!

These so-called Christians are all secret Lamashtu-worshipers.

[–] Riffraffintheroom@hexbear.net 10 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Pazuzu is the name of the demon from the exorcist. I think this was made by some 16 year olds for shits.

Well, true, but also quite a bit more than that for much longer.
wiki/Pazuzu

And the whole thing seems like a parody of the things that happened in the Satanic panic.

[–] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 2 points 4 weeks ago

The early 90s, you say?

Pazuzus in Labubus are coming down the stairs...

[–] MohammedTheCommunistPalestinian@hexbear.net 9 points 4 weeks ago (5 children)

What is Christianity even about bruh

[–] robotElder2@hexbear.net 8 points 4 weeks ago

Personifying your own bigotry and terror of the world as a god so you can worship it instead of get over it.

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 6 points 4 weeks ago

To be honest, this is just your standard conservative outrage using their religion as a weapon.

Elderly people not getting positive attention from their families and so acting out for negative attention.

I already hate that I had to learn what a labubu is. I also hate that the next time I go visit my parents with their adopted children, there will be piles of those things all over the house because my parents are the definition of treat piggies and they buy more crap than I've owned in my lifetime every year for those kids. Just the most useless fucking garbage that kills the planet and fills landfills to the brim.

is he supposed to be satan or pazuzu, pick a lane

[–] Cat_Daddy@hexbear.net 5 points 4 weeks ago

Sounds like they just want to buy the world's biggest labubu

[–] Acute_Engles@hexbear.net 5 points 4 weeks ago

Well now I think labubu is cool. All they had to do was tell me the toys are demonic and I'd be down

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 4 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

So it is crypto grifters trying to scam people out of money by faking a satanic panic about labubus?

I hate that I understand the sentence I just wrote.

Nah I think it's more like dude make an obvious joke poster with a link to his crypto scam hoping some of the people who check it out for laughs end up going for it.

[–] daniyeg@hexbear.net 4 points 4 weeks ago

bait used to be believable smh
